Love that model of Escort my uncle had a Cadbury purple metallic one when I was a kid. I have several tamiya on road chassis so think will wait for the body set and do my own livery I think!
@@markhume3503 All depends what you want. The chassis in the kit will be super easy to drive and with o oil shocks will drive reasonably well. The M08 is more a racing chassis and being RWD by design will be more balanced vs just removing the prop from the kit chassis.
Hi Gav. A much anticipated and talked about kit. Looks good. those decals to the rear seem to be giving kit builders some minor problems. Pretty close tolerance around those wheel arches. A suggestion with the view to keep spraying down to a minimum would be to spray the dark blue band in and decal the two lighter stripes. Masking that wouldn't be too troublesome either. Andy Robinson did a running video on the MF-01X chassis and it looked pretty good. You'll have to let us know how you get on with both chassis. ATB Darren.
The rear decals look simple but like you say, you don't have that much to play with so you need to be bang on really around the arch lip. Yep the next video in the Escort series will be running the two chassis and putting them to the test.
What upgraded shocks would you recommend fitting ? Excellent speed build, I'm in the process of building mine and keep hoping the decals will fit themselves !!
That's a nice realistic looking body shell. It would be even nicer with a detailed cockpit :) A bit worried about your daughter tho, did you remember to pick her up at 3? HAHAh
Could you please tell me what tools are needed I have the same kit and it's my first build and I have no clue on how to lubricate as I go along well in this situation.

Very cool, great car! I have only one question, my Ford Escort mkII had a little problem with the servo, and now it is going very bad. After I turn right the servo will go a bit to right, the same on the left side. I don't now if it is a servo error or is a manufacturer error on the mf-01X chassis, but now I can't drive it, I tried to glue the servo saver, I tried a lot of screws, but I don't know what happens. ( the servo can hold 11kg, it have one year and I don't know if I'm supposed to buy a new one )
@@RCKickschannel Yes, I did, but it don't work. Today I checked the servo and discovered that the gears of the conection between servo and the steering system are destroyed. I asked a friend of mine who has a VW Beetle from tamiya with MF-01X chassis and he had the same problem, so the spare parts are waiting me 😅
Looks great Gav! i have an off topic question for you, i picked up a NIB Bigwig (hopefully a good deal) and was hoping you could tell me which color tamiya Ps paint most closely matches the Blue of the shock tower plastic, thanks
@@RCKickschannel thanks i like what he did but i want to go white and blue but really want the shock towers to match the blue on the body ive seen alot of them where the blue is adifferent shade and it just doesnt work for me
I was thinking of getting this kit, but after investigating Tamiya kits they seems outdated and cheap, I don't see the durability and quality for the money that you get with other kits. I am already looking for something else to put under that RS body that actually has some performance and is fun to drive.
I'll be interested to see how good this is as a "rally car". First time I've seen a MF-01 built, and it just looks a bit, well, weird. Seems like really short arms that won't make for much suspension travel. This is just in comparison to the TT02 that I have, which I know is a much maligned and basic chassis, but it has longer arms and makes for decent travel.
You are correct but there is a company who do a full alloy kit which improves the travel and gives more adjustable components they can be found on eBay..
Definitely my next model,,thank you mate.i do have a question...can the standard ESC from a new midnight pumpkin take 3s, Even though it states 2s.? I,am being told different out comes..
Great build video, really enjoyed it. When are Tamiya going to stop putting crappy friction dampers in their kits? They are shockingly bad (pardon the pun)! But on the plus side, that Escort bodyshell looks awesome :)
People say these builds are easy but they don’t seem it always something that’s complicated or stressful which puts me off committing to buying a kit and stick to rtr or xsa
No, go for it. Just take your time and follow each step one at a time. The most difficult part is the body so go for one that has a painted body already.
I cover this in the video, it comes with plastic bushes. You should always upgrade to bearings if you are going to drive it at all. The only reason you want plastic bushes is if you are going to sell it on once built, or two, you are going to have it as a 100% shelf queen forever.
As an owner of a MF01-X can I say "enjoy fitting the servo"! There's a special place in hell reserved for whoever designed that part of the chassis, lol.
Cool vid as always! My main issue with this kit is how much of a pain it is for maintenance. Want to change the servo? You have to basically take the entire kit apart due to its split-centre design. I always found the MF01X to be a noisy running chassis. Even with the hop-ups, hard wearing high speed set, and of course, bearings, it always sounded off to me. I took it apart a few times and did full rebuilds, and it never felt right to me :/ Lining the pinion up is a pain too as the little port hole is so small to look through! 😭
Never be anuther ralley cat as good as the mark 2 escort no other car soots the cut bumpers and the four spots so well as the 2 door Mark 2 there is one moor car the Mark one escort
Tinted windows on a 1980's rally car was a no no, so why has Tamiya gone this route ? It spoils the whole look of a great looking Escort, fitting the cockpit set is also pointless as they can't be seen.
Wow, pot metal in a PLASTIC diff case and PLASTIC outer drive gears. What a rip off. Tamiya can’t make a hobby grade rc to save its life. But they charge hobby grade prices for their junk.
This guy is brilliant
I couldn’t work out what the spare blue square decal was for but now I know , handy. Great build by the way
Yay for Saturday morning cartoons!
Love this chassis it's a real nod to the tl01.... classic.
It's a good thing, now that you mention it... The TL-01 speed tuned gear set fits and works for this chassis as well.
Nice work grüsse aus dem schönen germany.
That body really is cool man I didn’t think I was gonna like it but it’s gonna look sweet running!

Great vid as expected 👍 cant wait to see both in action, although in my opinion, mk2 escort always should be rear end happy not 4wd 😎
Looks like I'm going to wait for (RTR) version in the future, for Tamiya Escort for 4wd, nice kit build and Time lapse.👍☕🏗️😳🇺🇸🔥🤨
Well the Alogarithym showed the video to me so good job on the thumbs up guys - great video, you have a new sub :)

If you want to run the M08 as a rally car, I strongly recommend adding a gyro. YR make a good one that isn't too expensive and pretty easy to set up.
I have a gyro in my receivers.
