great video Gav! I have the rally beetle on the mf-01x chassis and when building it, i did put bearings in it then after the first drive, out went them god awful shocks and were replaced with oil ones. After that, i cut the wheel wells a bit bigger and went with wheels that were just a hair bigger and to my surprise, the car drives frickin awesome now!!! Totally blew me away on performance, i like driving it so much that i scraped the idea of shelving it and now just drive the crap out of it, don't even spend that much time cleaning it afterward..lol i love that little car!!

The M08 moves in the way that Mk1/2 rally Escorts move... It looks right when driving. The MF-01 looks like a 4WD rally car. This is from someone whose been obsessively watching old rally videos during lockdown! If you're interested in some level of scale accuracy, RWD has to be the way forward.

M08 looked far more realistic....with hop ups the mf01x will do well as it certainly bounces around a lot on those stock friction shocks.

Personal I have a hard time axepting rear mounted motor in a front motor body, but that is just me. But another thing more important, is how much fun you get with the minimum amount of money. The original shassis runs good enough for bashing. Just add CVA's and traxxas rubber sealed bearings for the wet rally dirt. Great quality and much cheaper than tamiya sealed bearings.

Nice video of the two cars or I’d like to have seen the mf01x with oil shocks against the m08 as thoes friction shocks make the mf01x look bad and it’s really not a bad car. I’d still be happy to thrash mf01x more than the 08, I’d race that instead. Not sure buying m08 is justifiable against buying the mf just for a body and wheels and tyres when you could just get some oil shocks and bearings and have as much fun , but in this great hobby each to their own :)

    Great video!
I've just recently built the M05 with my 12 year old, and now I want another mini chassis. Can't decide between the MF01X or M06 kits... it wouldn't be driven offroad much even if I get the 4wd, it would mostly be cruising around random driving spots, or driving laps on parking lot style courses...
I don't know that I'd go for the M08, as it's a bit more, but the M08 isn't put of the question.
Which M chassis kit would you suggest for us next? Would likely do up a Beetle body, and maybe try to come up with a Datsun body as well...
    Cheers

    Dear god,
    1) keep it RWD.
    2) find 1/10 13" minitites and run it on 10" scale inters.
    3) the cibie shells need to be white.
    4) fabricate scale mudflaps
    5) reduce the speed to match the scale.
    6) trim down the stupid oversize black chassis anchor.
    7) find a way to extend the wheel arches as they were a special build at Boreham. (I should know I was building these in '78)
    8) fabricate an Atlas axle brace complete with a CWP cover.
    9) fabricate an alloy front sump guard.
    10) Finally use your brainbox to come up with a noise cancellation system and replace it with a BDA engine soundtrack.
    11) Working on it.
If you pull that off you would be sitting on a "Gold Mine"

The M08 chassis was so better planted and no bouncing around.
Is it worth while for the Escort fans to buy a body/sticker set, wheels and tyres, then put their money into an appropriate chassis?
The MF-01 has the luxury of being adjustable and more of road friendly with an almost sealed design, but handles appallingly especially stock, and does not accommodate the authenticity of the 2wd.

I already have a very hopped up M08 chassis, although it’s currently setup for indoor carpet racing, but I think the Escort would look perfect on it.
As for the kit chassis, I feel like I could get it working just fine under that body. Despite having owned many MK2s IRL, I’m not too fussed that it’s 4wd, I mean to be a true scale version of the real car, you’d need a rwd chassis, with a solid rear axle, but that’s not what this car is about.
Mine will be here this week, as we in Canada seem to be a little delayed in getting them.
I’m not sure I’ll even run it honestly, maybe just on the carpet will be enough.

@@RCKickschannel I removed cardan shaft, left front diff and front drive shafts in place. Front wheels rotate very easily. I have locked rear diff. Driving is near impossible, too much sideways and get stuck easily. Needs tarmac or very smooth gravel. All wheel drive is way to go.

Love the look of the car but those body posts almost ruin it!

The Escort body is beautiful but the chassis is a turd for that use... 2wd motor in front would have been the way to go, likewise on the capri

M0-8 did better than expected as it goes on the dirt. Personally I will be selling my MF-01X chassis and keeping the M08.

One thing comes to mind watching the MF-01X Chassis......
BOING BOING BOINGY BOING!!! 😲 ABSOLUTELY needs Oil Shocks as a minimum. BEARINGS should have come with it!!! 😠
The M08 Chassis was quite competent. More refined. But then, that's expected of a premium Chassis.
I've decided that since the GOOD Escort was never sold here in the U.S., I'll just use the MF-01X, but fit the Yeah Racing Alumininium Long Arm Kit, Dampers and of course, Fast Eddy Sealed Bearings.

To make better video. Remove the intro. The revving part is super annoying. Just a suggestion
