I have the rally beetle on the mf-01x chassis and when building it, i did put bearings in it then after the first drive, out went them god awful shocks and were replaced with oil ones. After that, i cut the wheel wells a bit bigger and went with wheels that were just a hair bigger and to my surprise, the car drives frickin awesome now!!! Totally blew me away on performance, i like driving it so much that i scraped the idea of shelving it and now just drive the crap out of it, don't even spend that much time cleaning it afterward..lol i love that little car!!
The M08 moves in the way that Mk1/2 rally Escorts move... It looks right when driving. The MF-01 looks like a 4WD rally car. This is from someone whose been obsessively watching old rally videos during lockdown! If you're interested in some level of scale accuracy, RWD has to be the way forward.

M08 looked far more realistic....with hop ups the mf01x will do well as it certainly bounces around a lot on those stock friction shocks. Great vid Gavin, really good seeing the two up against each other
So glad I got mini cva shocks for my MF01X Beetle. I didn't even bother building the stock pogo sticks lol. I just built it last week and only ran four packs through it and I love it so far.
@@alexanderconnelly Looking at the box its "50746 C. V. A. Super Mini Shock Unit Set". I built the rear ones with a small spacer and shorter end. Otherwise the dogbone would fall out on one side.
Thanks to your video I've bought oil shocks and ball bearing bearings for the output shafts front and rear,I've also got a couple of 21\22\23t pinions that supposedly work but I'm not there yet so hopefully I can try them when built. 👍😁😎
Personal I have a hard time axepting rear mounted motor in a front motor body, but that is just me. But another thing more important, is how much fun you get with the minimum amount of money. The original shassis runs good enough for bashing. Just add CVA's and traxxas rubber sealed bearings for the wet rally dirt. Great quality and much cheaper than tamiya sealed bearings.
Gav, in the M08, trust me when I say... Throw in the Hobbywing justock 21.5 turn setup.. It's an absolute dream to drive. The car is absolutely built for it. I have a mess of different cars, and on the track or anything onroad the M08 is magnificent.. I think it's one of Tamiyas best offerings..
Interesting. You can see the MF01 bouncing about! I think bushes & friction shocks is pretty poor show by Tamiya for the money tbh. Nice job on the M08 looks like it runs much nicer.
What's the max ground clearance for a M-08 I have a Lancia Stratos body and wanna make a rear wheel drive rally car but I'm curious if it'll have enough clearance for off road.
Check out the TL01 steering servo, very similar. It started without a hole under steering servo, but later ones had the hole. I think the hole swaps stones wedging in. It lets them out.
Really frustrated now. I’ve ordered a body kit, that won’t arrive ‘til March & I can’t find an M-08 chassis kit in the UK that will arrive before the end of April!
Nice video of the two cars or I’d like to have seen the mf01x with oil shocks against the m08 as thoes friction shocks make the mf01x look bad and it’s really not a bad car. I’d still be happy to thrash mf01x more than the 08, I’d race that instead. Not sure buying m08 is justifiable against buying the mf just for a body and wheels and tyres when you could just get some oil shocks and bearings and have as much fun , but in this great hobby each to their own :)

nice video love the country house look almost RAC rally back in the 80s I followed your escort mk1 build from L and L models so try this if you have time TT02 with a GOOLRC BRUSHLESS yes its cheap and cheerful with a 2s Lipo, rally tyres. it slides like a mk1 escort should do and with drift tyres on its brilliant fun thanks for great videos always interesting to watch

Great video! I've just recently built the M05 with my 12 year old, and now I want another mini chassis. Can't decide between the MF01X or M06 kits... it wouldn't be driven offroad much even if I get the 4wd, it would mostly be cruising around random driving spots, or driving laps on parking lot style courses... I don't know that I'd go for the M08, as it's a bit more, but the M08 isn't put of the question. Which M chassis kit would you suggest for us next? Would likely do up a Beetle body, and maybe try to come up with a Datsun body as well... Cheers
Nice vid, I got one two weeks ago from my GF for my BD soo pretty cool, Yeah not sure what to do just waiting on some allie shocks have ballraced it and put a dyna run motor in it roughly the same as a ST motor. I might try a locked rear diff and no front gears see how it goes. The friction shocks are bad that is why it bounces soo bad. Cheers.
Dear god, 1) keep it RWD. 2) find 1/10 13" minitites and run it on 10" scale inters. 3) the cibie shells need to be white. 4) fabricate scale mudflaps 5) reduce the speed to match the scale. 6) trim down the stupid oversize black chassis anchor. 7) find a way to extend the wheel arches as they were a special build at Boreham. (I should know I was building these in '78) 8) fabricate an Atlas axle brace complete with a CWP cover. 9) fabricate an alloy front sump guard. 10) Finally use your brainbox to come up with a noise cancellation system and replace it with a BDA engine soundtrack. 11) Working on it. If you pull that off you would be sitting on a "Gold Mine"
VX-01 is on the cards and I have a NIB one so keep an eye out for that as it will be on the show this spring. The VX-01 is a much more serious rally car chassis.
I have a Tamiya rally Volkswagen beetle. It uses the same chassis. I needed to get full ball bearings, oil filed dampers. I also got the "Yeah Racing" long span suspension. This set-up takes along time to set-up, but is worth the time. Take a look at this Gavin. This could be a future video for you. Thoughts?
I stopped using my MF01X as every single time I used it it got grit and stones in the gearbox , I even tried glueing it together . Strange that yours doesn’t have that issue
I have this sitting for a year on the shelf I just got to get the courage and put it together I have full ball bearings and shocks just to start with could you guys please tell me what lipo battery to get that will fit. 2 and 3s for the stock chassis

Great video. I’ve no experience with the friction shocks, but from the video they look ineffective. Just curious as to whether or not using a medium to heavy silicon oil to lubricate them would help improve damping? Similar to 1/12 setups?
The Esky with the MF-01 chassis will sell brilliantly in Australia. We love our Kangaroos 🦘 The M08 chassis was so better planted and no bouncing around. Is it worth while for the Escort fans to buy a body/sticker set, wheels and tyres, then put their money into an appropriate chassis? The MF-01 has the luxury of being adjustable and more of road friendly with an almost sealed design, but handles appallingly especially stock, and does not accommodate the authenticity of the 2wd. Tough call for the enthusiast !?

I found euro Rc are not exporting to U.K. unless you know other wise. So I had to find U.K. model shop for chassis and body. I guess you made. Oder for kits before brexit.
I already have a very hopped up M08 chassis, although it’s currently setup for indoor carpet racing, but I think the Escort would look perfect on it. As for the kit chassis, I feel like I could get it working just fine under that body. Despite having owned many MK2s IRL, I’m not too fussed that it’s 4wd, I mean to be a true scale version of the real car, you’d need a rwd chassis, with a solid rear axle, but that’s not what this car is about. Mine will be here this week, as we in Canada seem to be a little delayed in getting them. I’m not sure I’ll even run it honestly, maybe just on the carpet will be enough.
@@richardbeattie5575 my club raced on the newer black high grip carpet. Top 3 regularly consists of 08, 07, 06, 05 and 03s. Personal choice I guess at that point. Although I find the 08 kicks butt if the track is a little longer or more open, 07 tends to be better if it’s a tighter track. All that said, 07 and 08 can both win at my own club.
@@RCKickschannel I removed cardan shaft, left front diff and front drive shafts in place. Front wheels rotate very easily. I have locked rear diff. Driving is near impossible, too much sideways and get stuck easily. Needs tarmac or very smooth gravel. All wheel drive is way to go.
One thing comes to mind watching the MF-01X Chassis...... BOING BOING BOINGY BOING!!! 😲 ABSOLUTELY needs Oil Shocks as a minimum. BEARINGS should have come with it!!! 😠 The M08 Chassis was quite competent. More refined. But then, that's expected of a premium Chassis. I've decided that since the GOOD Escort was never sold here in the U.S., I'll just use the MF-01X, but fit the Yeah Racing Alumininium Long Arm Kit, Dampers and of course, Fast Eddy Sealed Bearings.

The MO8 moved way better. Some shocks will fix that, but with that body, RWD is the way to go! Looked so much more fun.

As long as you go for one with oil shocks, I don’t think it will make much difference for some light running on tarmac for fun.

You can use one of the tamiya cockpits but you might have to mod it a bit.

All depends on what you are driving it on. Go for a different chassis and the Escort body set or some upgrades like oil shocks.

The one thing I don't like are the body posts why do they need to be so long it ruins the look of the car
These are the last thing to cut when I know I have the body just how I like it and no issues with running.

The Escort body is beautiful but the chassis is a turd for that use... 2wd motor in front would have been the way to go, likewise on the capri

M0-8 did better than expected as it goes on the dirt. Personally I will be selling my MF-01X chassis and keeping the M08.

The M08 Chassis was quite competent. More refined. But then, that's expected of a premium Chassis.
I've decided that since the GOOD Escort was never sold here in the U.S., I'll just use the MF-01X, but fit the Yeah Racing Alumininium Long Arm Kit, Dampers and of course, Fast Eddy Sealed Bearings.
To make better video. Remove the intro. The revving part is super annoying. Just a suggestion
