I've owned a pair of these for several years now and I love them. It took a while to wear in the heel part where it rubs against my heel but once that was done these are extremely comfortable, water proof and warm and snug for winter. They are probably the only items of footwear that take me around a day out in London and let my feet enjoy the experience. I wax polish the welt and slightly do the toe and heel so there is, by now, a beautiful patina - so much so that when I was in the Cheaney shop in Jermyn Street in 2014 to buy some shoes there, the sales assistant went into ecstasies over the boots. He said he was going down the road in his lunch break to see about getting a pair of these from the C&J shop down the west end of the street. Yes they're not dainty and elegant but all the same a damn fine pair of boots (repairable soles too !.)
Hi Andrew! Wow thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your experience!!! As mentioned, this type of leather and color will develop a wonderful natural patina and they are real tanks. It's not a style for everyone, but for the type of wear you mentioned is absolutely spot on. Thanks for enjoying the content!
Happy New Year Kostas! I like and appreciate the new video format. I enjoyed this video and your critique of C & J 'sSnowdon boot. As someone who owns a pair of Snowdon's, everything you said is accurate. Your description of "tank" is right on the money - If you need some serious boots that will perform without fail in any kind of weather or terrain, Snowdon's are a solid choice. In terms of sizing, I was able to size down from 7 UK to 6.5. Hope you are safe and well. Looking forward to your new content. Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for watching! I appreciate it. I think my points are fair and honest. Sizing sounds about right for those with more regular/less voluminous feet! Islay video coming next week!
Hi just saw the video thank you for a good review. I have just purchased a pair in the uk 🇬🇧 very pleased with them. I too are finding even with walking socks that my heel got a blister on my first try of wearing them only walked half a mile. Not sure how long it takes to break in. I do love them great quality.
Really nice boots mate, i've spot that boots when Turkish actor who play mafia character wear it on the set with black color with same model. He was wore that boots with casual stripes charcoal suit black t shirt. Really looks badass through his character. Ive already made it with local maker boots, off course with cheap prices..Im so upset when the angkles to wide doesnt fit me well and too big on my angkles so i dont wear it anymore cause look ridiculous. Really C&J T my dream boots I hope I have pairs
How far up is the tongue waterproof? I haven’t found any photos showing if the tongue is attached to the sides or not. On my Coniston it is not, so if water goes over the vamp, it lands in your boot:(
Good looking boot but I really find myself having a hard time with C&J. Can't really explain why. I do have a bad joke for you though! During an interview for a job a man is asked "Are you any good with the Microsoft suite?" The man answers: "I'm not just good, I Excel at it"
Good video and definitely a tank of a boot. Saying the Snowdon takes inspiration from the EG Galway is because of the moustache vamp or V-vamp is not correct however and sells the Snowdon a bit short. This type of vamp has been common on veldtchoen boots from various makers for decades, such as for instance 1940s George Webb ZUG grain boots. The EG Galway is a fabulous boot (which they also make as a chunky veldtschoen on the 64 last) but it is not the original V-vamp.
No you are totally right, but I think it’s easier for people to identify with the style especially if they are newer. Also thanks for sharing the info regarding the older original boots, I’m always happy to learn something new!
@@MisiuAcademy It makes you different from other shoe reviewers who's just straightforward with review, thanks for watching and end. Keep up the good work!
Hard to say as I don’t own this boot but I would expect similar enough performance given that it’s CJ. If I had the choice I’d always go vibram though.
Hard to say. I have never seen the 378. However it has a storm welt so it gives it a nice look from the top for me. I like the choice of a commando sole there too for a heavy duty boot. FYI the leather the Ross uses is intentionally “scarred” and casual as well so it might appear imperfect. It’s normal.
@@MisiuAcademy thanks, I read that about the leather. I was thinking it (Ross) would look nice with jeans if it's also sleek, this Snowdon just look too massive...
@@TFM8 it is indeed quite chunky and as I said not the thing I would wear usually. I would prefer hiking boots. The Ross looks a bit sleeker for sure and I think this is attributed to the storm welt and the change of last. Remember that these boots are also a UK 11 so pretty big!
I’m searching for a pair of of ‘waterproof’ dress boots to wear with suits. I think these are a little too rugged but do you have any reviews or plans to review any such suitable boots? Thanks.
Hey Michael, sorry but that’s not going to happen really. Leather (other than say stingray or cordovan) is not waterproof completely as it has pores. And there even the most waterproof of constructions (veldschoen, stormwelted, Norwegian etc) are not entirely waterproof and will also appear bulkier. Your best bet would be something like the Carlos Santos Jumper boot I have in my shop (visually at least) that retains a bit of a dressier look but also has a storm welt.
Great video! I’m just about to buy these as my main hiking boots. Usually take a size 8 in last 325 and most other C&J lasts, I.e. size 8 Conistons fit me nice and snug. Tried on the Snowdon in size 8 and size 8.5. Snug in 8 with thick hiking socks. Trying to decide whether to go with snug or slightly loose 8.5.
Sorry my bad wrong video! The same size would be fine! If you plan to go hiking in the cold or want to wear super thick or double socks then there’s merit to 8.5!
@@AMogus-jr6qk actually surprisingly good! The ankle support is amazing and also quite breathable even in hot weather. Hiked for a few hours in a rainforest recently. I’d opt for lighter hiking shoes for flatter walks on warmer days but for the rest the Snowdons are great. All purpose. And look amazing!
It is interesting that C&J made their shit kicker in this leather, when their scotch grain itself must be quite hardy and in fact made for terrible weather. Good joke, by the way. ;-)
Hehe it began snowing heavily here last week so I wouldn’t mind them. But yes style wise they are not what I usually wear. As long as they don’t put a kiltie on them I am fine...

Hi Terry, it usually takes 3-4 wears for new shoes to break in. Enjoy them!
This is probably C & J ‘s best winter boot
It’s certainly a contender!
@@MisiuAcademy Are these boots waterproof?
There is no such thing as a waterproof shoe unless it’s plastic. They are waterproof enough

They don’t have bellows tongues as far as I remember. But these are higher boots so it should help a bit!
