These are amazing vehicles. I remember reading a Car and Driver magazine insert in the Air Canada magazine on a flight to Paris in 2010 on one of my monthly flights over. It compared the Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera to the Mercedes SL55 AMG. I was at the car rental pick-up place and to my amazing luck, I ended up with a free upgrade to the very vehicle they had for 1900 euros per day. A big step up from my Peugeot 207 (crappy car for 56 euros p/day+). I was able to load my huge hardshell suitcase in the trunk but I was instructed not to put the top down. I ended up driving the vehicle for 2-weeks from Frankfurt to Calais and to Paris. It was a speed machine mounted on rails. Simply incredible.
