    I am a proud former high-school classmate of Vladimir Kara-Murza’s (class of 2000; somewhere in northwest London), and I recall distinctly he was then already an expert in Russian politics, history, and literature, in addition to being an incredibly effective speaker. His deep love for Russia was palpable. I also remember chatting casually with him about Putin's inauguration, though unlike him I failed to grasp the significance of the event. A few years ago I learnt by chance that he had narrowly escaped death twice for his political activities.There's no doubt in my mind that, if there's one man who can free Russia from the shackles of totalitarianism, it's Vladimir Kara-Murza -- or Vlad, as we used to call him.

      So he was educated in London. You could kind of tell by how elegantly he speaks. What is his background and where is he now? I did not know him before watching this interview and now I feel I know everything about recent Russian history and politics. Impressive! This guy is brilliant! He should be president of Russia!

    Incredible. The whole series. I'm sorry I have just found this, especially since I come from Russia myself and the speakers here are actually the people who's names I've known for a long time, but never really heard them speak in such a profound and continuous speech. Which is what I'm especially grateful for.

      At first I found myself rating interviews and I put Julia Ioffe at the top and then I heard him speak and I matched him with her and then I heard numerous other speakers talking with the same clarity and conviction that they both spoke with and there was a theme that everyone agreed to. Putin is off balance he is on a mission and he is more dangerous now than he was back then.

    Today, on his first day of freedom in a long time, I watched this interview again. His predictions were scarily clear-sighted back then and Putin has done practically everything he possibly could do to prove Mr Kara-Murza absolutely right!

      I agree this guy is very sharp very perceptive knows his subject inside out and is making great points. I really appreciate that Frontline put this series together it has been fascinating and I am going to watch all of the interviews. The timing is especially important because of Putin's attempt to weasel his way into Ukraine to steal more of their land. Seeing how the Russians allowed their nascent democracy to be undermined makes me all the more determined to rescue our own democracy which is under a similar attack with the Republican party I'm sorry to say.

    • @lilaccilla
      @lilaccilla 2 роки тому +3

      imo , I think Putin sits super far away at the table now , because he is scared of nerve agents , of getting poisoned by someone . Because he is guilty of doing it himself . And the history of this happening to dictators . What a way to live , huh? In constant fear of being killed . Yet all he had to do was to respect others and trust others . He is not capable of compassion . He is psychotic, obviously . He seems to me to have a severe need for the world to see him as an all powerful leader . He wants to go down in history. Like this man says . His goal seems to be to be seen as the greatest most powerful leader of Russia . The problem is , that people don't like tyranny . And so they will fight back . These men seem to be obsessed with others seeing them as saviours . Yet they want to save only an idea , an ideal that is a fantasy , it is unrealistic . I suppose its like the delusions of many normal folks wanting to save the world single handedly , but it cannot be done .He needs a couch and a shrink at this point . which will never happen . Unless he accidentally gets struck by lightening and becomes an autistic savant possibly , I don't see him shaking this Messiah Complex anytime soon . He may not be religious officially , but he does think very very highly of himself as possibly a chosen one to lead . I would call him a paranoid delusional psychopathic and somewhat schizophrenic man . Of course he is bonkers . How else can you bomb hospitals with women and children in them . Now what can we do to capture him and take him to get his brain washed out of these crippling belief systems that drive him ? Why are we always allowing the most vile nut jobs to become leaders in the first place ? I only blame it on our taking the eyes off the ball . we are so distracted and occupied in our own little worlds , that we cant function well enough to know the difference between good and bad leaders . Between the corruptible , and those who have the interests of its own citizens , its own people who should pay attention to whom they choose to elect .

      Everyone now knows this and piles of military hardware are pouring into Ukraine and in support of the Russians because the Chinese have just flown six C-17 type heavy lift planes into the region ostensibly to supply the Russians. As creepy as that is it makes sense they would do it. I am an academic who follows all this history of 2oth century Russia. What this man says is 100 percent accurate. I have experienced the Soviet world in 1980 in Poland. Unfortunately, a country I love very much, as well as America, is back to the Soviet way of acting against opposition. He is correct completely about the Magnitsky Act. The meeting in Trump tower was about that and not dirt on Hillary Clinton.

    • @AN-cy7xm

      Did the Trump camp fall into a trap, looking for Hillary dirt? I mean, when I listen to the pretext for the meeting in Trump tower, they said it was about adoption. Well I guess it’s technically true, but entirely irrelevant next to the possibility that the Magnitsky Act was their target. “Tell him we want to meet about his kitten.” (Pause) “His kitten?”
      “Yes, his new kitten we are dangling over vat of acid and will drop if he doesn’t get rid of Magnitsky Act.”
