- Sony has just announced the HT-A9’s replacement, the Bravia Theater Quad. But is it a BIG upgrade over the A9 and what new features does it have? I visit the Fukuoka Tenjin Sony store here in Japan for a demo and get invited to the Sony VIP Privileged theater for a better sound experience.

So awesome SONY recognized you and gave you the VIP room. Kudos to them. Big kudos to you for your objective review nonetheless. I agree with you. Great video.
If anything the HT-A9 will probably be more sought after, after looking at Bravia quads numerous downgrades and ludicrous price increase. That price increase should be on Gen 4 or 5 not freaking Gen 2. Seriously the HT-A9 worked completely on its own and required no phone to calibrate. That makes the system itself an absolute gem!
Check out Andrew Robinson's review of this system. Somehow the Quad manages to sound better than the A9 even though it's much slimmer.
Each to his own, I like the design, definitely getting my system very soon.
Yes They'll look awesome on the wall. That was the thought while designing these.

One thing people misplace all the time is a remote. The one thing people never misplace is their smartphone. I like the idea of having the setup being on the smartphone
I just picked-up the Sony HT-A9 + SA-SW5, about 2 months ago. It finally went on sale, 30% off on both. Loving the A9, but the SW5 sub is disappointing because it lacks punch/power, imo. Sony should provide an option to add additional subs and speakers, through a firmware update ( keep dreaming).. Through your video, it seems to me, as if sony is cutting cost by changing speaker material and down sizing the remote with the BT Quad. I too prefer the A9 speaker design and remote. By the way, another great video, keep them coming, thanks.
Thanks for posting the video I've been searching UA-cam every day since last week and you are the first to do a video on this new product. I think the design of the new Quads will work much better for wall mounting, they look a bit strange to me on the high stands. Although I'm not sure how you can toe them in if they are flat against the wall. Perhaps this isn't necessary with 360 spacial audio? I read the new Quad speakers have got two wifi modules now that can switch to ensure the best connection to prevent any possible dropouts. I'm certainly going to give this system some consideration along with the new BRAVIA Theatre 9 that also features the 360 spacial audio and is considerably less to buy. Although from everything I've read and the video reviews I've seen the HT-A9 offers much more spaciousness to the front sound stage with the speakers being further apart than what is possible with a soundbar.

I think I’d prefer the heft of the hta9 speakers, I like that kind of tech “beefy” although with my hearing difficulties the voice zoom 3 would be tempting

They should have improved the Wi-Fi signal on the A9 and added new speaker types, like a center channel, so you can mix and match as many physical speakers as you want in the room to get a better and better experience. So obvious of an option but here we are.
I agree about the smartphone issue. The samsung q990C also forces you to use a smartphone to control everything and even if you try to use the provided remote all the sound settings are hidden away in multiple presses of the same button. Verrrrry annoying.
the A9-M2 has 4 speaker per unit, 3 front facing, and 1 upfiring, compared to Ht-A9 with 2 front facing and 1 upfiring, the M2 has an additional mid range speaker per unit and marketed to have better sound stage than A9, do you think if there's actually improvements in this regard?
Good observation and excellent question which deserves an answer.
Sony should have definitely made a centre speaker for this setup it's the most important speaker, dialogue all comes out of the centre
the Cenmter speaker is the Bravia TV...
Any Sony tv with XR Cognitive processor from 2022 onwards works as a center speaker with any of Sony 360 SSM home theater. Works like charm
why are all the dumb users giving thumbs up, when the tv itself is the center speaker?!

TV as a speaker sounds worse than the two fronts as a phantom centre.
It's great that you are sharing this with us. I agree about the looks , for now it feels kind of awkward to place those speakers in your living room. They just don't feel very practical. I would really prefer a set up with four speakers that look like the sleeker SA-RS5's only bigger. I really like that look. They sound great though and probably have a connection that's more reliable.

I'm thinking about buying it because this new one is a little too pricey for me and not a fan of the look. The A9 is going much cheaper these days but still the software is a little older which is holding me back of buying it.
I agree, I like the original A9 better. not sure why they did a complete redesign, that makes no sense. These new Quad look like a Lacie hard drive. like the new remote. the less buttons the better.
Nice review. I'm definitely gonna buy this system and i noticed your sub placed on stand by the side of your couch. I was wondering where you had bought this stand and if it makes a difference in the LFE (clearer / less boomy )? at least i suppose your sub doesn't bounce around and rattle on your wood flooring. THX
Thanks much, I bought the stand from IKEA actuslly. It’s like a small table sitting over the sub so I can play my remotes and drinks on it. Makes no difference to the sub because it’s not touching the sub at all. The legs go over the sub 😊
I do have the sub setting on sound deadening pads and spikes though so it don’t bounce around or bother my downstairs neighbors. Makes no difference to the sound!
You say you don't like using a phone to control Sony Quad setup but I use my mobile app to control my Marantz AV Receiver because my Marantz AV Receiver is behind doors in a cabinet, so it's handy having a app on phone to control AV Receiver

So a cheaper remote with lesser features, fabric instead of metal enclosure and in general a smaller footprint (probably cheaper to produce), the control box material downgrade and the price in Europe is now €900 more, €2900 vs the A9- €2000. Seriously what is Sony doing. There maybe more antennas but this is going to be a mild upgrade over the A9's performance. Sony fix your pricing in Europe!!

I do like the idea of receycled fabric, you always see so many recycable products but rarely any recycled things which makes you wonder if these things are actually being recycled then where is the recycled plastic even going, it definitely matches better with furniture than the previous model and but the fabric does not look premium, and recycled pet canvas fabric is not even cheap, a linen canvas wouldve been cheaper and looked a whole lot better and felt premium
But Andrew Robinson said it's much better than the previous A9
@@Daniel189HLL I actually added a comment on his video asking to test a specific scenario, I would say if there are no disconnections, its a great system that is horribly overpriced from the original.
@@Daniel189HLL I’d have to say “just a little better” I have owned the A9 almost 3 years and feature wise, the Bravia Quad isn’t that different and sound quality is just a little better.
Sony products/devices are completely high-end with first-class quality, and Sony's design has always been something special, and always will be.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Blaze, can you please ask that Sony store what speaker stands they're using for the quads? I was told Sanus are the only compatible ones. The speaker stands in your video from the Sony store are slimmer and definitely not the Sanus BSSU2 speaker stands.
were you using the tv as a centre channel? these music clips sounded amazing.
I have a few questions about this system. I have the old model. Did they fix the dropouts from Wi-Fi interference? Or are they still using the same 5 gigahertz band? The top of the speakers seems much smaller, do the height channels seem weaker? Do you know if there will be an update on the previous model to support the new voice features?
I want the A9 so bad I was shocked to see the quad is coming out God damn it so expensive I ended up getting the q990c I hope the atmos is okay
The Q990C is amazing. The quad is slightly better from what I've heard from people, but you won't be missing out on a night and day difference.
Great review, nice to see them up close to get a better perspective. They definitely need to be wall mounted, look odd on stands.
Also, it sounds really good from the video if i am honest and you are in a big open shop. At home it's going to sound even better (bar the cinema demo and the giggle haha).
I'm wondering if it will enhance the experience even more with the new Bravia theatre 9 TV as that's meant to have very powerful tweeters in the TV, which should definitely help with the center channel.

What a missed opportunity for Sony, all they had to do was add additional options to the HT-A9 with a new centre channel bar, two side firing speakers, the option to add multiple subs. That's literally all they needed to make it complete. Instead we get a funky WiFi router looking speaker which looks horrible on wall or stands. Fabric cloth wrap looks cheap. These massive downgrade in the remote control functions. No chromcast or Alexa.
Even the Control box is downgraded with a separate glossy section for the display screen, previous one was nicely hidden behind the front panel.
How this costs £1000 more than the HT-A9 is mind boggling.
I've always wanted to try out the HTA9. I'll probably try to get one used. Hopefully people sell some on ebay for a decent price.
The prices have dropped on them, so imagine you can get a good deal.
@@blazinreviews2393 that's correct 🙂 i was looking up the new Bravia Theatre Quad and came across the HT-A9 which is half the price now of the Quad. Great deal !. For me 2.600 is a little too much plus is still don't know how i feel about the new design.
Thought they the Sony stores closed down about 10 years ago? When you were watching TOP Gun in that special room, was that the A9 or the Sony Receiver and speakers and what type of speakers where those, look like the Sony Core series which are not very good speakers. Was their a pair of non Sony front L/R speakers?

In the theater, Top Gun was playing through the new Bravia Theater Quad. You can’t see the speakers in the video due to all the other equipment around, but they hooked it up for me to test in there.
Do u experience any drop outs? Have had my A9 for about 3 weeks now and have unfortunately experienced many small drop outs. In fact as I wrote this, am playing Lego Jurassic park and in the last 2 hours have experienced multiple drop outs. To be fair, they are small/short and I don’t think other people in the house can hear or notice it.
Has anyone been able to find soeaker stands like the ones in Blaze video? I'm not feeling the ones from Sanus that are compatible.
Does Sony Quard Theatre bass performance and loudness Are Improved when We Compare with HT a9 ???
Not sure, the bass from the 4 speakers seemed a bit better than the A9 when up close. But was hard to compare due to them having the SW5 sub connected
Sony should send you a set with A9m2+SW5 for a review.

I’ve contacted Sony actually numerous times to do a sponsor deal sending me products to review, even told them I’d send the product back. I just recently wrote again asking and telling them I’d review the Bravia Theater Quad for them and get them many new customers.
I was told once again “Sorry, at this time it’s a no”
Seems they only do it for channels with over 50,000 subs who will do a review once and then that’s the end of it.
Upmix of stereo to 360 spatial audio is the same feature as in the av receivers named 3d dimensional or all channel stereo.
It's nothing like "all channel stereo." I have the Sony 7000 AVR and 360ssm (sound spatial mapping) is 3D as hell, nothing like all channel stereo. There is a humongous difference between playing all channel stereo and actual spatial sound. cheers.
Sony needs to change the style and colour of the sub to match the quad.

Looks good but I've heard the Samsung 990 D is a much better Atmos DTS X solution for movies 🍿..I got the Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 and I believe that's in another league to all of these systems

The real question is what settings do they use? Music or standard/cinema? Because standard/cinema make the sound worst like muddy no more trebles with reverb.

When you order the Sony HT-A9 from Temu.
You had the system connected to your phone and did a review without checking what levels the SW and Rear Speaker was on?? It's MK1 all the way here.. The flat speaker on stands is too weird. Catered for folks who want to wall mount for sure.
Was connected to Sony’s phone and in Japanese. I didn’t see the level while setting up but I’m guessing around 7 or 8

I bought the ht a9s last year and returned them. My advice to any one who wants true dolby atmos sounds you really need the hight channels attached to the Ceilings to get the proper hight sound. Because shooting the sound up to the ceiling just doesnt sound as good or in most cases you barely hear the height phantom speaker at all.
Dunno, I think the A9 does a pretty good job. Of course actual speakers are way better, but there are times when the A9 height effects just blow me away.

Totally agree….i bought the A9 + sub for a bedroom setup and I find it shockingly good!!!! Not a fan of the new design though. Looks like a cost out exercise with ‘improvements’ coming via software upgrades.
The 2nd antenna is probably where the money has been spent although, I’ve never had issues with dropouts.
If one has high ceilings yeah don't expect the upfiring speakeres to work that well

I like that they're going for environment, you always hear about things being recyclable but I always wonder if so these things are being recycled where is the recycled plastic even going? you always hear about so many recyclable things but rarely ever hear about things made from recycling all these but it needs to be done better so it looks more premium for a premium product
Wall mounted they look fine but those flimsy looking included table stands ruin their look for me.
