Just bought one of these, inspired by this video. It's the 9220 sunburst, and I love it! I'll never be able to play it like Toby, but I'm having lots of fun tryin'...
Hey quick question, is this the Gretsch model that has the higher action? Follow up, can you play this style with a normal action guitar? I recently bought the same boxcar resonator with a lower action. You sound awesome! Totally inspired..
How would you compare this Gretsch Roots Boxcar to the Epiphone Hounddog? I'm thinking of buying one of the two. You obviously chose the Gretsch and it sounds amazing in your capable hands.
""Gotta Tell you Brother that your music takes me back almost further than I want to go. But not so far that I do not still revel in the sound. Too bad there are no more trains worth riding on."
Toby, I've never used a thumb pick. is it essential for this type of music? I've always simply used my bare thumb when playing music. I've played a fair amount of guitar, but not this genre. I really enjoyed your playing!
very nice indeed! could someone pls answer a simple question as I have yet to try a resonator guitar. Are they considerably louder than a normal steelstringed guitar? cheers
Great slide playing. Very impressed and I'm quite surprised you got that sound out of a Gretsch Resonator. I'm sold. I know it's been asked but what gauge strings do you use?
First thing I bought at the very beginning of this year was a Gretsch G9200 Boxcar. Should have bought it much much earlier. Great playing, great sound.
Damn! I came to hear the guitar, but I stayed to hear some damn fine slide playing!

Awesome Toby. Can't help, but smile while listening.
Proof yet again ya don't need a multi thousand dollar guitar to play beautiful music-----it's 90% the player.
Nothin' beats talent and practise.
God.
That’s so so true!
Beautiful playing & great ad for an entry level resonator may just go get one!

This is the great thing about Toby, he does have to play a National - he can play an inexpensive Gretsch, sound good, and have fun doing it!
