God, I remember this like it was yesterday. What the video fails to capture completely is the excitement and intensity of the crowd @ 1:09. When that curtain fell it was pure ecstasy. The energy it created was unfathomable. Like a million voices and bodies screaming out in joy and pleasure. I will never forget that instant in time. Long live AiC, but RIP Layne Staley, there will never be another like you.
God I remember this like it was yesterday. Was at the show in Raleigh. Was 17 years old and came home from the show covered in dirt lol. Think Layne came out first in a suit. And when that curtain dropped...the damn earth shifted. AIC was the reason i took the free ticket I got. The show was nuts and the mosh pit one of the craziest I’ve seen. Long live AIC!!
Funny how that works...you can see that the crowd is losing their minds but the sheer wall doesn’t really translate. You’re not lying though...I know because you can hear crowd noise over the band and the camera is right next to the bass amp and several monitors. That must’ve been LOUD....
@@rumblefish9 and Arrested Development was so fun too! damn we were so drunk and sunburnts by time AIC came out.... but we were up front!!! and it was epic! ;)
It’s funny how routine this whole thing is for these dudes... Sean is back there fiddling around, Layne is fixing his shoe up until the very MOMENT the downbeat hits hahah
Midnight Rocker saw the same tour in RI. Primus headlined. I was there to see Primus, didn't even know AIC was on the tour. My girlfriend got the tix & I didn't know AIC was playing until I heard them. I love that band & it was like a damn gift that they were there. Great memory!!!
***** Kirk cobain couldn't hold a bucket for layne staley to piss in. There is no comparison, more talent in laynes fuckin pinky than than the whole God damn band of nirvana
I'm the biggest Nirvana fan on the planet but I'm also a fan of AIC, let me tell you a little secret. Go to Nirvana videos and you almost see no mention of AIC. Nirvana fans don't compare the two bands because they're nothing alike. Go to AIC videos and you constantly see AIC fans comparing AIC to Nirvana, I don't know why AIC fans feel the constant need to compare or defend AIC against Nirvana but it only makes them look desperate. A sad desperate attempt to make them appear superior. Fuck that! Both these bands are fucking amazing and legendary in their own right. Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, they were friends, Kurt gave Layne rides to places and shit. All those guys have their own unique voices to. Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Mark Arm, etc. That's what I love most about these bands, there is no mistaking them.
Saw this concert in Philly & this performance completely sent the entire crowd into a frenzy! AIC was the true headliner, Primus was picked as the final act but nobody would ever say they could even touch AIC's set. Just imagine this, Tool was originally set to perform on the "B" stage?? They got bumped up when another band pulled out, but WTF? Yeah thats how good the music was back then & JFK Stadium was literally shaking from the massive crowd!
I think they were about to play Them Bones right when the video ends. Man, it'd be amazing if this whole set existed from the same footage this video came from.
+Kat Hamilton (Zepluv) I think youre right I think i saw inez in the summer of '93, not Starr. if you look on youtube for the brasil show, i think that's def starr
Saw this show in Pittsburgh. Lollapalooza '93. When the curtain whipped back, Layne was dangling from the TOP of that cargo net in front of them., 30 ft up. AIC destroyed all on this day.
I used to listen to this in my craziness and I have to admit, it syncronized quite well with my insanity at the time.....Oh!!!!! you couldn't dmn that river!!!! RIP Layne and Mike
I saw this tour at Santa Fe Dam in CA on 8/6/93. Still have the ticket. It was the only time I ever saw AIC and RAtM! One of the few friendly mosh pits I was ever in. Bassist Mike Inez was so excited and energetic during “Dam the River” that he got his bass stuck in those ropes. He had to quickly switch basses while his tech untangled his dangling bass from the ropes. lol. RAtM, Primus, Fishbone, Tool... What a great show!!!
I was there! Hell yeah! And Primus came after AIC. Great fucking concert. Thanks for the memories. Back when I had shoulder length long hair like Jerry Cantrell, baggy jeans, a flannel shirt and Doc Marten Boots! Nostalgia O.D. xD
+Guy Fawkes I saw them same year as you! In north Jersey. Waterlll Village in Stanhope. Did your crowd love AIC stealing the show from poor Primus. I guess that happens; like when people talk about Van Halen stealing shows way back when. Find peace Layne...
Guy Fawkes ...I was there too! Was 17 years old...it was so damn hot that day and we came home covered in dirt lol. Alice was the reason I took the free ticket. God I’ll never forget when that curtain dropped. Lost a lot of brain cells since then but remember them the most! They were beasts in concert. That mosh pit was unreal!!!
I came to this video from Instagram which said this was Atlanta 1993, however, Lala palooza in Atlanta in 1993 was at Lakewood amphitheater, Lakewood amphitheater has the 1st 40 rows of SEATING WAS COVERED( had a roof over it). THEN the lawn seating(on the grass) continued up the hill. I'm not sure where this video was shot but, unless they stuck AIC on a side stage in the other side of the park, this isn't Atlanta. I would know because I worked security at most major shows there for 6 years....
Im pretty sure they have man, every band that played in seattle at the time were mutual friends who admired each other's music. I know Chris definitely knew Layne, there is even a video of Scott covering angry chair.
I love Jerry! I met him backstage at the concert in 2006 (sadly after Layne was dead!) :( Jerry was cool as shit and was drinking a bottle of beer. I have a guitar pick he gave me.
@bigdaddypimpc -- they were an unbeatable team. amazing together. :) Layne's voice breaks my heart and Jerry's solos tear it out... lol... i miss them :( mutherfuck it all!

Is this at Milan drag way, MICHIGAN???? Sure looks like that night, I remember tornado warnings all over southeast Michigan, and 4 touched down around the area of Lallapalooza. For all you young ones out there, this was possibly one of the best concerts in history of rock and roll. Present on this tour was also, TOOL, Rage Against the Machine, PRIMUS, etc...... This tour was the one that made Alice in Chains, and TOOL, super famous. How could you not love AIC after you seen Layne LIVE!!!!????
Yes. I was there! Theycancelled dinosaur Jr in the middle of their set and shut down music because of a tornado warning. People started hurling gallon jugs all over the place because they got impatient and then out of nowhere Alice in chains started.. completely epic. I got my 17 year old face ripped all the way off right off the bat by rage against the machine
I saw them in N.O. in Lollapalooza three in 93, And I was very disappointed!!! They came out in business suits (which I thought was kinda cool). But their timing was shit! Everything was slowed down about two times. I was saddened for that reason. But hey... I saw them live with Layne at the wheel!!! BTW Tool, and R.A.T.M. killed it at that show!!! Best times of my life!!!
+rareluck I also saw them in 93' at Lolla. Which ironically was at the Santa Fe Dam that year here in SoCal. My memory is fuzzy but from what I can remember Tool and Rage did have legendary performances.
I was at the show in Milan, Michigan. It was amazing. AIC were rotating the closing spot with Primus and AIC were 2nd last in Milan. I walked out after AIC left the stage, I was covering my ears walking to my car trying to block out "My name is mud!". Primus is barely worthy to set up AIC's gear IMHO.
@@sequoia1171 I found the ticket. It says Friday July 9, 1993 at Milan Dragway. A severe storm rolled in during concert and blew down some of the stage, and Dinosaur Jr did not play their set.

Jerry Cantrell is the reason why I picked up a guitar.
He is “the fucking GOAT “
Did you play it or just pick it up?
Layne Staley is why I picked up a microphone
Layne is the reason why I have a voice now
I love how at the beginning Laynes lookin at his shoe or something looking neither here nor there and then BOOM he's on and rockin the fuck out!
That's layne man the coolest badass is badass town ....
