    Awesome vid. Making stuff work together sounds way better than EQ carving everything into separate spaces.

    Thank you! Learned a lot (as always). Awesome tune btw. My kids watch some shows like, “Teen Titans Go”, which have great music, full of slick sounding guitar melodies. I hope there will always be a place for that kind of music btw. Must be great fun producing that.

However, my music production is very basic due to lack of tools, knowledge about sound engineering. You level is way higer bro. Would you just help me mastering one of my recent song which i have recorded and mix but not able to Master on cubase 10. I need professional hands such as yours. Bro. The bottom line if super smart,you will get it,if dumb,it does not matter how much gear,you will push shit uphill.Anyway I value a song more than the sound of it which is the harder art especially lyrics.

    great video, just subscribed! i love your accent. i'm really trying to start using samples for certain drums like the kick. kicks seem hard to really pop in the mix really nicely so i think its a good place to start for using samples. cheers!

    And another great video from Chris! Thanks! I've often floundered my way through this and had less than stellar results. One quick unrelated question for you. I just bought a pair of the Kali LP-6's and would like to be able to A-B them with my old monitors. What kind of A/B switcher would you recommend? I'm thinking best bang for the buck here. Thanks again!

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  5 років тому

      I use the Presonus Central Station to manage my monitors, they also have the Monitor Station V2 that looks nice... I don't know about cheaper ones that I would recommend

    How was the very low bass eq'd? Did i miss something? I saw the eq that was used on the mid bass but not the low sustained bass, was there a hi pass roll off?

    • @mixdownonline

      That low bass has only a HPF at 20hz, nothing more :-)

  • @realraven2000
    @realraven2000 5 років тому +1

    11:17 on 60Hz build up- shouldn't you side-chain / compress the kick into the sustained bass for that "max martin" treatment? Or is that more of a "pop" vibe and that's not done as much in Rock?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  5 років тому +2

      I don't sidechain when I don't need too. I don't think it's necessary a Pop or Rock thing to sidechain, it all depends with what you're working with as far as the bass and kick sound goes.

    Hey Chris, I don't have a great room (or speakers) but it sounds fairly balanced to me from my listening position - I have a pair of Alesis M1 Active MkII which I do not intend to upgrade until I move rooms. I am mixing on AGK 240 Studio for 2-3 years so I know them well but I am aware they also cut off at the bass. Can you advise on either a better set of headphones that supports low low end or a matching subwoofer to get (not more than 300$)? Currently my only bass treatment is an open plan wooden staircase, a vinyl record shelf and a couch :)
    Edit: I also notice it's "nicer" to work with headphones + speakers to feel more of the bass - would it be valid to work on headphones + subwoofer?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  5 років тому +1

      Could be a good idea to do a vid on headphones. As far as a subwoffer goes, I use a sub with my NS-10 since they have no bass at all but I do not use a sub with my other speakers

    Nice video and explanation Chris.
    Would you consider telling us more about that nice looking mixing console at te side of your control room? How do you use it, did you connect outboard gear to it and what about routing?
    That would be a somewhat different video but with a ton of information for someone who uses a hardware mixer too.
    Cheers!

    Thank you for your video, Chris. When you use the PRE function to filter the lows as at 5:10: does this process take place before any other element in the chain? Is PRE at the very beginning in Cubase? I am confused sometimes for example regarding the Channel Strip, which of both take place first. If I remember good, once you answered someone that one can change the order, but I can’t find where was this question.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  5 років тому

      Yes, the PRE fonction is pre-insert and cannot be changed. The channel strip is Post Insert by default but you can change it to Pre Insert if you want. I also forgot in which video I talked about that...lol... Basically, if you open the Channel Settings Window of a channel you will on the top left that you can change the order of the Insert and Channel Strip tab. Hope that help!

    • @korkenknopfus
      @korkenknopfus 5 років тому

      Thank you, Chris. Ah, OK, that was it, to change channel strip self to pre insert. It was actually in the comments of an old video. I asume you mean by changing the order of the tabs one can change channel strip to pre or post inserts.

    • @korkenknopfus
      @korkenknopfus 4 роки тому

      Hello, Chris, I return to this video after almost half a year: regarding PRE in the Ch strip, when I filter the lows of a guitar using amp and Fx emulator as insert, I note radical differences if I filter before and after the insert, specially if the emulator’s patch has high gain. I note that the lows are almost not filtered if after insert, but well filtered if before. I tend to think that in this special situation the filtering should take place after the inserts, because if I would record a real amp and a real Fx chain that would already be the signal entering to my track. Do you note something like that (assuming you work with amp emulators sometimes, of course). Thank you.
      PD: and regarding 6:00 Yes!

    I can never get this right,the bass guitar especially synth bass sounds hollow and sits over the kick and not WITH the kick,takes me forever then I give up.
    And trying to find a half decent bass synth sound on any synth is impossible,they all sound plasticky and thin.

    Hi Chris. very interested in getting hold of some free stuff, as advertised: Sub kick would be cool and some mix templates to check out, even better. However, the link on the video to download the sub-kick, goes to some other links including Free Stuff, yet even though I've submitted a name & email a few times, I never receive a confirmation email and it never gets any further. I've checked my email address in case I made any typos, and it's clean, but no confirmation.

    I can't get the attack of a kick to sound right,as soon as the other instruments come in,the kick dies.
