The reason The Lost Boys were boys was flat out stated in the book (not the movie though so I understand). In the book it says girls were too smart to end up in Neverland. The boys ended up there because they would fall out of their strollers. Girls were too smart to do so and that was why there was no girls.

There's a reason "lost girls" didn't catch on in the Disney Peter Pan universe with Return to Neverland. Making Hook sympathetic is uncessary, since his reason to hate Peter Pan is already understantable. The kid cutted his hand and gave to a crocodile that now chases Hook, who always has panic attack when he sees the reptile coming. Yeah, he still a ruthless pirate, but the fact he has to spend his life running away and scared from the crocodile it's enough to make people feel a bit bad for Hook's situation.
His obsession in wanting to kill Peter Pan also works to create a similarity between the hero and the villain: They are both trying to fight time itself and reclaim from their past (Peter wants to stay a child forever and Hook wants his revenge). The difference is that Peter in the end comes to respect Wendy and her brothers wish to return home while Hook, despite having opportunites to let go of his revenge quest (something that even his crew is sick of it), he tries another attempt, only to failed and he end been chase by the crocodile again. His ending is the old saying "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."

While DreamWorks is turning novels into great movies and shows, Disney, for some reason, doesnt want to animate any of them. From Artemis Fowl to their upcoming shows and movies like Percy Jackson to Eragon to Keeper of the Lost Cities. Those books would have been great animated and yet, Disney only wants them to be generic, live-action slop. 6:05 - 8:02 and 11:18 - 11:22 Heck, I felt the same way how stupid, dumb and pathetic that MGM gave Carface's backstory and redemption arc in All Dog Go to Heaven a Christmas Carol.
They did revealed the sad tragic backstory where Carface was a happy puppy 🐶 in his childhood but his owner blamed him for making a mess of Christmas decorations, which gets him thrown out. I'm sorry. Carface doesn't deserve some redemption after all the worse things he committed like child abuse to Anne Marie and attempted murder to his old friend Charlie. They are missing the point of his character development. That is so out of character arc. He's the villain. He's supposed to the character that we should hate and despised for all the crimes he did and they are trying to make us feel sorry and sympathy for him. He doesn't deserved to be in heaven either. He should've deserved some punishment for his past actions. Carface got the Ezra Miller treatment in this Christmas special and sequels. Captain Hook said it best: "NO. That's not how it works."

That was very disrespectful of the sequels to not included Anne Marie in the sequels. Same thing with the Ice Age sequels how they forgotten the Ice Age baby 👶🏻 from the first movie. I don't considered the Ice Age sequels as canon to the first movie either. I understand they wanted to pay respect to Judith Barsi but not mentioning her character in the sequels that is disrespectful too and its like the franchise act and pretend that she doesn't exist in the same universe. Also, Itchy was adopted by the end of the first movie so why the f@#% he forgot about her and never mentioned about her when he arrived in heaven and reunited with Charlie of how Anne Marie is doing in Earth?!
❤️💖 You know what could've been a better All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 sequel? The sequel should've focused where Charlie and Anne Marie are reunited together after years of separation.
This would've been a better animated sequel compare to the final product where the sequel would've taken place years later where Anne Marie is now a full grown beautiful young woman in her early 20's but as she grew up she forgot and lost her ability to talk to animals and she forgotten about Charlie and Itchy similar to how Robin Williams's Peter Pan forgotten how to fly and be a kid again. Charlie and Itchy have reincarnated into new different dogs and Charlie has redeemed from his selfish and greedy personality from the first film and wants to be reunited with Anne Marie once again but she doesn't even recognized them and completely forgotten about them similar to how Robin Williams's Peter Pan forgotten about Tinker Bell and the Lost Boys in Hook. Both Charlie and Itchy must find a way to be reunited with Anne Marie and find a way for her to remember them. This sequel would've been taken similar direction and story like Hook and Christopher Robin route where you have a heartwarming emotional story of the supporting character as the main character growing up and needs to be reunited with his or her childhood friends and to embrace their childhood and feel like a kid again. Remembering your inner child and not letting go of your past. A popular kid character in a classic children’s story that grows up and is busy with work to spend time with his family and one of his old friends from a fictional world brings him back to relieve his childhood and learn more about the importance of childhood being innocent and spending more time with family is more important. It would have been heartwarming and emotional about a human owner reuniting his or her dog 🐕❤😢💙💗♥🐕 coming back to life from the dead and it would've made dog owners and animation fans cry and emotional invest with the story and the characters. Imagine reuniting your long lost pet back to life from an unbelievable beautiful heartwarming 💕💖❤♥😍💗💕💖❤ miracle! This could have been one of those rare animated films that will make people especially both kids and adults cry. Honestly, I love that idea and version way better and more so than the actual sequel we got. This could've been the Don Bluth animation equivalent to Hook and Christopher Robin. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️

Disney hasn't made a single good remake. Jungle Book, Aladdin, Lion King and Pinocchio are the worst ones.
Also, it's insulting how the writer of the Peter Pan remake didn't understand the source material. For example, the reason there aren't any girls among the Lost Boys is because girls are too smart to get lost in the first place (at least in the Peter Pan universe). Another thing they failed at realizing is how important it is to have Hook and Mr. Darling played by the same person. The point is that Wendy has father issues and she projects them onto Hook, who represents everything she fears about adulthood. Hook's defeat is a symbolic gesture of Wendy conquering her fear of adulthood and thus she reconciles with her father.

@@alexismartinez8343 I hated the jungle book remake because it failed to understand either source material. Mowgli lacked the complexity of his cartoon counterpart, the actor playing him had no emotional range whatsoever and delivered his lines as if they were cue cards, the ending was anti-climactic because Mowgli staying in the jungle is as stupid as Wendy staying in Neverland, the friendship between Mowgli and Baloo lacks all emotion, we are never shown why the animals care so much about Mowgli, there are plot holes such as how does Mowgli know water kills fire and why Shere Khan didn't already know about Mowgli if he attends the water truce every year, Kaa has no personality and everything she says is made redundant later, the movie relies heavily on the classic for context, the tone was all over the place, there was no coherent vision and the movie couldn't even decide whether or not it wanted to be a musical.

I have a feeling Peter’s explanation for there only being boys in Neverland is because “girls are too smart to be lost” is a lie covering up another one of his heinous actions. Given his personality in the original play and book, he probably kidnapped them from their mothers as infants. I mean, it’s not far-fetched considering it’s implied Peter Pan kills the Lost Boys he takes in when they grow up and he cut off Hook’s hand and fed it to the crocodile for sheer pleasure in the original. 🤷‍♂️

@Vetarlit Torf I do respect your opinion. Here is what I think:
      1. I understand your opinion about Mowgli in the remake, heck at least he was given a bit more character than he was in the original film. Let's be honest Mowgli was a whinying brat int he original animated film.
      2. I understand this is Newl Sethi's first time as an actor. I don't blamed him. He was only a kid. Maybe he can do better acting once he gets older. Heck, he is nowhere near as bas as that annoying kid actor who voiced Ranjan in Jungle Book 2.
      3. The ending that is kinda understandable maybe they will changed the ending for upcoming Jungle Book remake sequel.
      4. Personally, Mowgli and Baloo could have more emotional depth like in the original animated film.
      5. I believed the elephants 🐘 told Mowgli that water 💧 can stop the red flower 🔥 and Mowgli probably stay at his wolf 🐺 den and never been to the Water Trace before.
      6. I do wished Kaa could've more screentime.
      7. The tone fits fine for me and the songs 🎵 well they are fine for me.
      8. I do loved the fact that the wolves 🐺 were given so much better screentime than the original animated film.

@@alexismartinez8343 Mowgli did not have much of a character in the remake. He was just a generic nice kid who somehow has a master's in engineering despite having no contact with humans.
The cartoon Mowgli was not a whiny brat. He was a complex and sympathetic character. We saw how he was at odds with his humanity because he has no perception of it, which resulted in him being existentially confused, insecure and rebellious because of how out of place he was in the jungle. And because of this, he tried to find his identity by imitating other animals.
Despite his confusion, he was happy that he at least had a home. So naturally he becomes terrified and desperate to feel loved when he is told to forever leave the only home he's ever known and he responds to the situation as any child would. His relationship with Baloo was so strong specifically because he understood him and realized how Mowgli longed to feel accepted.
However, his identity crisis is solved when he meets Shanti, the first time he meets another human. In that moment, he feels a natural connection to her and humanity. Which ultimately makes him realize that what he feels for Shanti is something he can never feel for an animal. Because the jungle has nothing to offer Mowgli but misery and loneliness. It's actually a beautiful transition from childhood (symbolized by the jungle) to adulthood (symbolized by the village).
This is the kind of nuance Favreau fails to understand.
And I seriously doubt the remake's sequel will ever be made. It's been almost 7 years, Neel Sethi is an adult and there hasn't been any development on the project since 2019.

The more time goes on, the more my tinfoil hat theory about Iger and the other executives being embarrassed by their own company seems to be true. I cannot think of any other reason why they would continue to double down on mistake after mistake unless they either hated or were ashamed by the talent that came before them. Because for all of Michael Eisner's faults, he gave us the Disney Renaissance and the Disney Afternoon block, he let the animators and the creatives do their things instead of handing down note after note or designing movies to be filmed in a way that they could be scrapbooked together depending on what the mood of the moment was. No wonder Iger wanted so badly to be the ambassador to China since he's trying to make corporate-funded media the way they make propaganda films.

And then there's the tons of money they poured into that Galactic Starcruiser hotel which is already failing because who wants to (or who can afford to) spend $6000 for an awkward LARP experience in tiny rooms? Neverland in the 2003 version looked like something out of a children's book, the colours are vibrant and each location is fantastical. Sure, a lot of the CGI hasn't aged well, especially in the flying scenes, and some of the locations are obviously sets, but I'd take poor but creative CGI over the bland on-sight shots of the 2023 Neverland.

Even when I saw the teaser trailer, I instinctively began to watch the animated classic, which I frequently have in most ocassions. Yes it still has outdated stereotypes of Native Americans but this ought to be known that this how A CHILD would think of those people back then and it could be the fact that they weren't REALLY Native Americans at all, with a slight exception of Tiger Lily I think, and these people were actually different in the real world.
I must point out that the actor who potrayed Pan in this film, Alexander Molony, also provided the voice for Ooo Ooo from Raa Raa (whom I think that character that he voiced is a much better Pan than the remake's interpretation of whomever is this supposed to be.) and Alex the Chick from The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales.
As for the inclusivity of the film, or even lackthereof, recall the setting of Cruella. It takes places in 70s Britain, in which it had an already culturally diversive population. This remake takes place in the Victorian era just like its source material yet Wendy, Pan, the Lost Children and even I would daresay Tiger Lily (which is arguably the better aspect of the remake.) were portrayed very contradictory both physically and even mentally which makes the film very anachronistic in terms of the characters in that era. What purpose for Pan, Tink and the Lost Children to be inclusive in terms of their appearances and mannerisms? No reason. What purpose for Wendy to be an independant, capable, strong and even unlikeable feminist icon? No reason. What purpose for Captain Hook to be a tragic villain, which admittedly sounds interesting but it is poorly executed here. No reason. These aspects weren't there to expand the story and its characters, they were added there only for the sake of it, which the thought of it already felt a bit appalling to say the least. At that point, the part that made these live action remakes could have been run by Peg-Leg Pete, the Weasels and the Beagle Boys.
Oh and I would remiss of having to quote from Tom, 'Don't you believe it!, after seeing these behind-the-scenes featurettes in which they, the crew and cast, were excited or rather forced to. Disturbing...
Another thing, according to one source the director, David Lowerly, stated that this remake is a passion project. HOW is it passion project because I don't see it anywhere so surely he must have been phoning it in.
Also, where were the Wayward Sisters from Macbeth to tell the business side of Disney to tell their own fate whence almost all of us needed them to do?
In fact, I even made a video that commemorated the release of the remake with a scene that perfectly represents of what is happening now at Disney's business practise. It also might have been controversial and you can find it on my channel. ua-cam.com/video/7-jbE4xUNXc/v-deo.html
To end in a more positive note, I would like to give you all very good advice. Don't spend your day hate-watching the recent live actions remakes such as this film and the upcoming Little Mermaid, spend your day not only watching the animated classics but also go to Disney Animation: Immersive Experience. I lived near Toronto and I have seen it with my family last year. I ought to say that this is an enthralling and magical experience through-and-through. I simply cannot recommended it enough. Also, for any LEGO admirers, go afford these LEGO sets of Disney 100 and even make your MOCs (My Own Creation) to celebrate Disney's centennial celebration. That way, you won't waste time on those remakes and to be more excited for Wish.

Just because the Native Americans aren’t real in-universe in the real world in Peter Pan and are fantastic (in reference to fantasy, not as a compliment) doesn’t excuse their racial stereotypical appearance.
And I hate to say this…. but I am seeing the live action Little Mermaid remake. I can’t help it. I want to see the collaboration of Alan Menken and Lin Manuel Miranda and how it transfers into the final project. I think regardless of how the quality of the film turns out, the new songs and score will turn out great and I have faith Lin Manuel Miranda will do justice to the late Howard Ashman’s work with his reinterpretation of the iconic songs while respecting the original meanings. Also helps that Lin has a respect for Howard and his song “Under the Sea” was a great influence in inspiring him to pursue his music career, so he’s the perfect choice to write the new songs and handle the old ones. Sympathetic spins on Disney villains, they could work if done right. Otherwise, let them alone and be who they’re meant to be, just villains.

As some people have already stated, this movie is pretty sexist. The original text states there are only Lost Boys because “girls are too smart to be lost”. They traded one offense (the stereotypical designs of the Natives from the 1953 film) for another. I call for a write off!

While I agree with a lot of the points in this video, this has _got_ to be the first time I've heard anyone reviewing this movie say that the acting was decent. Especially Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Maybe they did the best with what they had to work with, but there are a couple of laughably bad scenes for both of them where absolutely ZERO of the correct emotions are being shown.. It felt like they just went with the first take they shot and called it good. (I can even list off a couple for you to rewatch. The scene where Peter is "killed" and Tink tries to save him. Her face is not horrified and distraught at literally losing her friend right before her eyes.. She looks like she was told to _try_ to look that way but actually has no idea what either of those emotions look like.. And then the scene where the ship is dumped upside down, and Wendy saves Peter from falling. He looks up at her with literally _the most deadpan face_ I have ever seen in a situation where a character literally just had their life saved...

A question to the long dead author of this story in general: Why couldn't Mr. Barrie just come up with the idea of Neverland be filled with actual Indians, Not specific Great Plains or Northwest Native Americans, but actual Indians be they Hindu or Muslim? Thus tying himself to his British colonial empire as a Scottish citizen, why couldn't he just do that!?

The insane wait times for the ride really are due to A. the ride system itself not really being designed to deal with the sort of hourly capacity that rides designed with park capacities of today in mind have and B. It’s status as an iconic dark ride really is more impressive than the ride itself

Compared to some of the other live action remakes, I can see why they needed to remake Peter Pan, mainly because of the racially insensitive and stereotypical portrayal of the Native Americans. However, having to see this movie, it was so dull and boring. It makes me beg to see the Disney Pinocchio remake again. At least that one had some spectacularly bad moments and you do wonder what stupid edition it might throw at you next. Also, I hate to say this, but native americans in the original, as outdated as they were protrayed back then, looked more colorful, lively and fun to hang out with.
If you want a Peter Pan live action film, Animat recommends the 2003 film. I recommend Hook starring Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman. But if you want a spectularly bad Peter Pan film instead of a dull and boring one, try peaking at the 2015 one.

9:23 - 9:39 Wow! How stupid and pathetic that Pete's parents gets killed over a car crash by a running deer 🦌 and Pete some how survived? What the F#$%? There is no way a little kid can survived that car crash.
I felt the same way how stupidly DreamWorks killed off Lucky's mother 👩🏻 in Spirit Untamed. Unlike most animated films like Bambi or Lion King, they killed off the parents in intense but dark emotional way but here on the other hand they killed off Lucky's mother in such a stupid pathetic lazy way. Seriously how did Lucky's mother 👩🏻 gets killed by that leap horse 🐎 jump in the circus 🎪 act and yet her daughter Lucky did the same thing by doing a leap act with Spirit and she came out okay just because she is the main protagonist?! That's lazy 😴 writing ✍️🏻 in general. 🥱😒😏 Wow, I totally didn't see that coming. Sarcasm.

@Hunter O'Laughlin Tell me about it. The cliche dead mother 👩🏻 trope is such a cliche Hollywood trend in animation. At least Bambi's mother, Littlefoot's mother, Tod's mother and Mufasa's deaths did make me cry. 😢 DreamWorks did a better job handling dead parent deaths like Po's mother 👩🏻 from Kung Fu Panda 2 and Stoick's death from HTTYD 2 make me cry better. This one didn't. It failed. It failed so much.
Plus, that is ridiculous that Lucky somehow survived through that horse 🐎 leap in the climax just like she copy her mother. Come on, there is no way a little girl that age and size can survived from the leap in real life. She could've died too. 😪 🤦🏻

5:34 In my opinion I think diversity is good when it's done with original characters and not race swapping already existing ones. It comes across as very half assed to me, as if Disney can't be bothered to consistently make original new characters that have different races so they just take white characters and change them because it's easier and they won't receive nearly as much backlash compared to if they did the same in vice versa. I just find it unfortunate that this is starting to become a more widespread trend now with other companies such as Netflix and Discovery Warner Bros doing it now as well it's as if history is repeating itself.
