    I have been using my nifty fifty, reversed, with extension tube for a long time and I get a lot of good views with it. One thing though is that I have a Canon EOS Rebel t7 and to my knowledge the rebel series cameras do not have a depth of field preview button unless it's there and I just have never used it or seen it or whatever.

      You best to check your manual to see if you have that feature.

    I agree with all you said. It's difficult to get the right range, and the subject is hard to see through the viewfinder without the proper lighting. With enough tries, you can get that sweetspot though. It's just a bigger hassle

    Thank you for the super useful info!
    Great to know before buying any new (even if not particularly expensive) equipment.

    Thanks Stewart that was interesting to see some of the issues. But at tge end you showed some great images (drop of water on pink blurred out flower/petal. Was that done with something like a 50mm reverse mounted lens ontop of a 105mm lens?

    Hi Stewart, many thanks for sharing your video on the reverse lens for macro photography, I have just purchased a reverse lens macro adaptor with a view to attaching my Canon 75-300mm telephoto lens, would this be any good?
    I didn't pay a lot for the adaptor off Amazon so if its no good then it hasn't cost much to try it out (a pint of beer if that). I do tend to do flower & still life photography so hopefully I might get some interesting shots.

      Should be ok flowers and still life. You can always work your way up to extension tubes for a dedicated macro lens later on.

    Stewart, you showed a bracket or filter holder of some type which you required to add your flash unit to the lens and I'm wondering who the manufacturer is and what the device was actually called. I'm looking to purchase one that will allow me to attach my Flashpoint MF-12 to reversed Fuji X-mount lenses.

    Have you ever tried adding the reversed lens to the nifty 50 with a ring? It gives you variable F-stop and all the normal controls. How would the softbox work?

      I’ll have to give it a go ;)

      The Art of Stewart Wood - Should say you leave the iris open on the reversed lens and just use the nifty to get the f-stop you want.

    Again great video. Do you think that the Yongnuo YN24EX macro flash would work on my Sony A6300/A7RII/A7RIII bodies, of course no TTL or HSS functionality but only manual operation probably?

    How does the focal length affect magnification (is it longer = greater)?

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  5 років тому +1

      The shorter the focal length, the more magnification you will get.

      @@StewartWoodArt ah thanks for clearing that up. I'm currently using a reversed 24mm and was considering getting a 40mm.

    Do you think I can do this with a mirrorless camera like the Canon EOS M100 and its kit lense (15-45mm)? Or should I buy a step up ring first and then put a reverse ring on it?

    I agree with you. I like extension tubes so you don’t have to be sitting so close to your subject. Another good video.

    I used the stock 18 - 55mm lens and working distance of around 9 inches. I think your video is a little misleading.

    do you lose TTL on flash when using reversed lens?

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  6 років тому +1

      Yes, I believe the camera gets confused because it can't see the lens. I've not tried it on my 80D yet which is a newer camera.
