Aqsaq Rast (Modus Orientis) - أقصاق راست (مقام الشرق)

My composition "Aqsaq Rast" for the "Modus Orientis" project with Didem Başar (qanoun) and Reza Abaee (gheychak). This is from our presentation at the joint student colloquium for the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de création et de recherche en musique (OICRM) and the International Laboratory for Brain, Music and Sound Research (BRAMS) at Université de Montreal, as well as the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media and Technology (CRIMMT) at McGill University.
In “Modus Orientis: Comparative Middle Eastern Microtonality”, Didem, Reza and I compared and contrasted Arabic, Iranian and Turkish modal traditions, devised a scheme for visual representation of our microtonality and composed pieces with the aim of fusing our three modal traditions. The project was supported by a Research and Creation grant from the Canada Council for the Arts (CCA).

مؤلفتي "أقصاق راست" من مشروع "مقام الشرق" مع عازفة القانون ديدم بشار وعازف القيچك رضا آبائي. قدمنا نتاج مشروعنا "مقام الشرق: الأبعاد النغمية المشرقية المقارنة" لمؤتمر طلبة المرصد المتعدد المجالات للإبداع والبحث في الموسيقى والمختبر الدولي لأبحاث الدماغ والموسيقى والصوت في جامعة مونتريال، بالإضافة إلى المركز المتعدد المجالات لأبحاث الموسيقى ووسائط الإعلام والتكنولوجيا في جامعة ماكجيل. في مشروع "مقام الشرق" قارننا ما بين التراث الموسيقي التركي والفارسي والعربي وعملنا على خطة تمثيل أكثر دقة للأبعاد النغمية المختلفة وألفنا مقطوعات الغرض منها دمج المواريث الثلاثة. حاز المشروع على منحة البحث والإبداع من مجلس كندا للفنون.
