Before announcement about Yu Peng Chen leaving Mihoyo and Hoyo-Mix, I haven't even notice any difference in music quality and diversity in Fontaine soundtrack, it's still as brilliant as it always was since 1.0. Some people act like the world comes to an end and Chen was the only composer for the entire company and their games, forgetting about cooperative work of entire Hoyo-Mix crew (visible on 2.0 Inazuma live stream for example, same with 3.0 Sumeru). That said, flute in track "03" gives me strong celtic/scottish vibes and quickly stole my heart, or should I say, ears.
That's interesting. My experience differs. When I went into fontaine, I wasn't hit with a melody that stuck with me the same way I was hit with liyue's exploration ost, ritou's theme, or gahdarvaville's theme. My initial impression was that the music felt more like ambient videogame music and a lot closer to that of monstadt overwold. I wanted to see if it got better as I got to experience more of fontaine. I noticed that in each region, there's usually a village with an exceptionally catchy melody. In Monstadt, it was dawn winery. In Liyue, it's Qince village. In inazuma, it's Konda village. In Sumeru, it's vimara village. I'm not sure if I just hadn't spent enough time in fontaines villages, but none of their themes really stood out (the closest I'd say is poisson). I'm sure they will at some point, but for the villages in those past regions, it only took a few loops before those village themes caught on and held tight. At first, I wondered if western or european music just wasn't yu-peng chen's forte, and that's what I had written it off as until I heard he had left :( Don't get me wrong, I think it's still better than most video game ost, but I definitely noticed a difference. It's not a jarring difference, but it was noticeable for sure.
@@ChanseyFanDan so jarring seeing your catchy melody in sumeru be vimara and NOT port ormos. port ormos theme made me fall in love with the region. i can't remember the melody of many other sumeru pieces. personally, i haven't really enjoyed fontaine much but i really don't mind the music at all. probably because i play a lot of other games more than genshin, so i'm constantly exposed to different styles. favorite and most memorable fontaine track for me has been the merusea village song. i go afk there just to hear it.
Even before I heard about Yu Peng Chen leaving I found the Fontaine music to lack oomph compared with all the other regions. Even Mondstadt had quite a punch to certain tracks like Stormterror and Andrius fights. Fontaine ost makes me want to live in the countryside, maybe somewhere nearby a lake or the sea. The composers did a great job bringing out the romantic feeling.

Now that Natlan is coming soon, I will always remember traversing to the beauty of Fontaine. I will never forget the journey and the swimming in this beautiful nation.
Too many times, I simply stood in the fields and meadows of Fontaine and listened to the music. The gentle whistling of the breeze and the dancing of the grass and flowers, the birds chirping and frolicking as they mind their business, Fontaine's serenity is something different from the previous nations.
