Recording History and Dedication to Cao Tram:
Around 1994-1995 my father Phan Kien wanted to do an album of songs that he has written through the years. Cao Tram was one of the few musicians and friends in our area that Dad loved so he asked him to do a new arrangement for Phu Du. The project took a while to materialize and by 1997, anh Cao had already lost most of the song's 16 instrument tracks. However, thanks to his technical knowledge of keyboards, sequencer, and backup storage, we salvaged about 8 and was back on track. We were also fortunate that Thanh Lam, one of the 3 Vietnamese singing divas at the time, could come to the US and record at our studio, and she was incredible! The final recording was just a 2nd take of a song that she's never sung. Thanks to anh Cao Tram's technical and musical prowess, we were able to complete this song and it turned out to be one of my dad's favorite recordings. Thank you anh Cao Tram, this video is a tribute to your talent and friendship. -- Kimo
