let me tell you some piece of advice -- from an AP US History Student: just because you're in normal US History doesn't mean you aren't smart. I'm sure you are really smart Janessa
Lol I never even opened my textbook in APUSH. I just winged it and told myself that I would study eventually for the AP Exam but instead I just went and took it with no prep. But I got a 5. I took it in May 2017 and the test was unusually easy that year with topics that we all knew like the back of our hands: American Revolution, Reconstruction, etc. The structure of our class was similar. We had to read 3 chapters at a time and we had three weeks to finish detailed notes for all three chapters. The day the notes were due, we would have a quiz with 30 MC and an alternating type of FRQ, with one midterm and final each semester.
I am taking the exam on Friday and I do not feel very well prepared... My teacher has barely made us read the textbook this year, and now I'm thinking I might make in the realm of a 2-3.
Good luck to everybody taking tomorrow's test... studying and knowing the content is important, but make sure to get a good rest and eat a low-carbohydrate breakfast!
My APUSH disaperred for about a month in the fall so now the AP test is in 2 days and we are a month of notes behind and he literally assigned us the entire last period of APUSH today
well, my teacher has hardly taught us anything all year, and we barely covered period 9. we have had probably 4 quizzes this entire year, and maybe 4 tests. some of the information the teacher gave us was unreliable, and we are 99% not prepared for the exam tomorrow. so guess who's screwed.
Same here! I didn’t pay attention during virtual class all year and just looked everything up. Now here I am worrying about it when I take it in less than 24 hours. 😅
Yeah we had that this year for my apush class in SC. We had a guided reading for each chapter or we could opt to take our own notes as long as it was at least a page and a half which I preferred to do. On top of that we had quizzes each day in the class (we had it every other day) on the chapter. It was a lot ngl but I feel pretty prepared for the exam
Yeah in my class we do the chapter terms and have term quizzes. Then he lectures and we write a DBQ about the chapter. We also have 5 point quizzes but then later have a 5 point bonus question.
i’m taking apush now and i’m doing well, but coming from AP World it’s a bit of an adjustment. You need to know more, and my teacher just tells us when the next test is and tells us to read a certain amount of the book by then. She’s a really good teacher, and it’s significantly improving my time management. Last year though, you could literally get away with not doing the reading (i still did it obviously). It’s kind of overwhelming, but I think it should work out. I’m putting way more effort into it than i did in AP World, which i got a 5 on. I love it but it’s kinda terrifying.
The way my class works the teacher goes over the whole chapter then after 4 chapters he gives us a test and the test is strictly documents from that era and nothing else.
I’m just glad the weather changed my test date but I’ve been procrastinating and haven’t studied in about a week 😭 so I have 2 days to review everything
All these people talking about procrastinating, and I just finished sophomore year and am taking APUSH this coming school year. I'm getting ahead 😄 And AP World was easy. The class was an easy A, and the exam's multiple choice section was a bit weird but the written portions were really easy. Hoping that APUSH won't beat me up.
What if you're taking the exam but only took Honors US History? My teacher is making me take the AP Exam cuz he said I could "easily get a 5." So what should I do?!
Oh my. Watch some Adam Norris videos and try to prep a bit by taking some practice multiples choices and read over some DBQ/LEQ prompts to get an idea of what’s going to be on it. Also review the rubric or the essays. Good luck!!
Hi Josh! I'm a freshman in highschool this year and I was wondering if it would be better to take easier classes and do great in them or take more challenging classes and maybe not do as well. I'm debating whether or not I want to take AP Euro next year considering history is my weakest subject and I probably wouldn't do too well on the exam.
Cindy L Colleges do take into account the rigor of classes and courseload. For example, someone who has gotten a 3.7 by taking a lot of AP classes would look better than someone who has taken only regular or honors and has a 4.0. AP classes and SAT scores are how colleges determine if you'll be a good permanent student in their institution. So usually if you have B or higher on AP classes, it would look better than an A in an honor or regular class. But it's up to you on what you can handle. You should push yourself, but not overload yourself or take classes you know you won't have at least a B in. Just make it up by succeeding in the SAT. Hope I helped!
colleges usually look at the courseload over the gpa-so if you have a lower gpa with harder classes, you have an edge over someone with a 4.0 in standard level courses. but remember not to over exert yourself or bite off more than you can chew! taking five APs seems like a good idea until you’re up at 4 am crying over the exam. challenge yourself, but don’t stress yourself out. your mental health is more important than your college application.
i wish my apush class was like this. im taking a practice exam tomorrow and i feel like i might get a 3 or something, which is passing, but not great. im not feeling confident, as my teacher did not teach to the test at all and i dont even know like what a dbq is.
Nancy R. I did a practice exam over April break. I got 37/55 multiple choice correct, 4/9 for short answer, 1/6 for leq because I ran out of time, and 4/7 on dbq. So basically i did everything badly, but I still got a 3 🙃🙃🙃🙃
lol all these people in the comments watching this the day before test but here I am watching it after the second week of school :) dont procrastinate kids
APUSH is a lot a lot a lot of work (I'm taking it this year) so make sure you're schedule isn't too crowded so you can spend the necessary amount of time on it! The worst thing would be to overload yourself on difficult courses and instead of learning just getting stressed out. At my school APUSH is generally a class for juniors, so good luck!
Josh Beasley you just saved my anxiety, I forgot to sign up this year, and will try to do it next year, my mom literally said big colleges won't consider me without it
