I personally think 2018 was too easy. I beat baldur with no deaths on the first time, then went back just to see if I could beat him again with no weapons and no deaths and I was able to do it. Ragnarok gave me a lot more of a challenge than 2018
Fighting all the valkyries, freeing the dragons, getting the ingredients to get the “legendary armour”, surtur’s challanges. I do think that ragnarok had more quests but the only cool side quests were freeing the Hafgufas and I loved the huge area in vaneheim where you have to kill 3 dragons

The crater has cool lore but the dragons are easy to kill and the whale again is cool but there’s barely any enemies to challenge you there and this comes from someone who’s beaten the game 100% twice

I think Joe edits mean the emotion in the story and dialog, cause gow 4 put me on a emotional Rollercoaster. I mean with brok dying in gowr,, was sad but Kratos just trying to be a father that protects his only son, was just too much for me, and besides GOWR kinda rushed the story

In Ragnarok it was Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Sindri and all of their developments were connected. And Dialogue was better in Ragnarok. Kratos asking Brok to bless the spear, Atreus saying: Do not be sorry, be better. Sindri talking to Atreus after Brok’s death, Thor and Kratos dialogue when he entered their home, Kratos and Mimir dialogue after defeating Berserk King, Mimir trying to find an answer to Brok’s riddle and finding out at his funeral and the riddle and answer is also a reference to Sindri. - What gets bigger the more you take away from it? Now remember things that Sindri said to Atreus when boy said: I’m sorry Sindri said Atreus was taking and taking everything from him and now he doesn’t have even a family. Answer to a riddle: Hole In our case hole in Sindri’s heart. Remember when Mimir answered the riddle right? When Sindri pushed Kratos hand from his shoulder and walked away. I loved how Ragnarok's story, paid things off from 2018 in a subversive way than how 2018 said it would be paid off, I also love the themes and ideas of Ragnarok a lot more than 2018, It's story is near perfect (and that it makes you cry like a lil' chicken). But the reason I prefer 2018 is that, it's story is a lot simpler and that it felt like a blockbuster, turned into an independent story. Both are emotional journeys that I was willing to go through, and have become my favorite stories in the, GoW series and in gaming in general.

Thor is not even the final boss. In the bossfight against Odin i felt like they wanted to recreate the mechanic of changing the weapons, something that Baldur did better. Odin wanted to know the truth, but Baldur wanted revenge after all those years without feeling anything

Because 2018 was well written, had character development, godlike ost (deliverance alone claps the entire GOWR soundtrack), characters which stayed true to what they were supposed to be (While Ragnarok Atreus doesn't seem to have learned anything from their previous quest and Kratos has literally become winnie the pooh), and overall a much more fitting atmosphere. While Ragnarok had its fair share of good moments (notably the Brok and Sindri stuff, this was amazingly done), the story was a mess, there were way too many unecessary segments that could have easily been replaced by something else, and the last act was beyond disappointing

But the rest I'd say is equally good. GoW ragnarok takes it with scale and bosses and sidequests but 2018 has the better plot, character dev. and it was something entirely new at the time

Nah 2018 only wins in story, plot, pacing, music and final boss. Everything else goes to ragnarok. 2018 was good but had pretty mediocre bosses apart from the Valkyries and baldur. Almost every boss in ragnarok goes hard aside from Odin, the beserkers, and a couple of side bosses.
How about when Kratos gave Atreus his Knife. "We are more then men. The responsibility is far greater." I wished more of the lines in Ragnarok weren't so Direct. But more metaphoric. Like the line "In moments of Crisis, Panic does nothing, Harness it, Let it serve you."

Tyr's plot twist was something that was hinted at towards the entire game but was still unexpected and jaw dropping along with broks death, so how does 2018 get plot? Main story: Gow 2018 story was more based off just spreading faye's ashes a top a mountain. But gowr had much more complex and exiting story with new enemies, great ass villians like Heimdall, odin, thor and etc, with tyr plot, atreus growing, faye in the mix, kratos growing and becoming a man, his relationship with atreus and all those emotional moments plus thousand things more. One hundred percent better than 2018's Side quests: I'm not even going to explain this just THE CRATER alone is enough to answer that question. I loved how Ragnarok's story, paid things off from 2018 in a subversive way than how 2018 said it would be paid off, I also love the themes and ideas of Ragnarok a lot more than 2018, It's story is near perfect (and that it makes you cry like a lil' chicken). But the reason I prefer 2018 is that, it's story is a lot simpler and that it felt like a blockbuster, turned into an independent story. Both are emotional journeys that I was willing to go through, and have become my favorite stories in the, GoW series and in gaming in general.

Thor is not even the final boss. In the bossfight against Odin i felt like they wanted to recreate the mechanic of changing the weapons, something that Baldur did better. Odin wanted to know the truth, but Baldur wanted revenge after all those years without feeling anything

Because 2018 was well written, had character development, godlike ost (deliverance alone claps the entire GOWR soundtrack), characters which stayed true to what they were supposed to be (While Ragnarok Atreus doesn't seem to have learned anything from their previous quest and Kratos has literally become winnie the pooh), and overall a much more fitting atmosphere.
While Ragnarok had its fair share of good moments (notably the Brok and Sindri stuff, this was amazingly done), the story was a mess, there were way too many unecessary segments that could have easily been replaced by something else, and the last act was beyond disappointing
Fr tho GoW best moment is probably when Kratos sees the world destroyed in Greek Mythology

2018: could've done better with it's blades, but from what I heard is that the Blades had to be made in a year, compare this to the axe in which it took them 4 years to finish.

I think both games are great, but the story in 2018, kept bringing me back to see any small details.
I agree with the baldur thing but I think the side missions in ragnarok are much better. They feel like a part of the main story like the two jelly things in alfheim or the freya mission. But the rest I'd say is equally good. GoW ragnarok takes it with scale and bosses and sidequests but 2018 has the better plot, character dev. and it was something entirely new at the time
Baldur is the best gaming villain ive come across, This guy went insane with his pain feeling and his mother, and Kratos got “in the way” from him and his mom

Plot:first off, we had tyr plot twist and faye's plot twist which is enough in my experience. Tyr's plot twist was something that was hinted at towards the entire game but was still unexpected and jaw dropping along with broks death, so how does 2018 get plot?
Main story: Gow 2018 story was more based off just spreading faye's ashes a top a mountain. But gowr had much more complex and exiting story with new enemies, great ass villians like Heimdall, odin, thor and etc, with tyr plot, atreus growing, faye in the mix, kratos growing and becoming a man, his relationship with atreus and all those emotional moments plus thousand things more. One hundred percent better than 2018's
Side quests: I'm not even going to explain this just THE CRATER alone is enough to answer that question.
Dialogues, death can have me when it earns me, open your heart to it, The culmination of love is grief, and .... Just enough to solo this category, in terms of dialogues Ragnarok was one of the best games ever

I wished we saw more of a larger scope to God of War Ragnarok. Like the Final Fight on Tharmur, or the Fight in the air with Baldur on the Dragon, i guess they do that in Ragnarok, with the dragon fights, but the camera angle is always pointed upward, so we can't see how high they are.
