  • Do you have old film you want to get digitized posterity? This video is about my experience from DIY from film to VHS in 1988 then to digital in 2022, and then two different commercial services going directly from Super 8mm film to digital MP4. I used Legacy Box and compare it to Larsen Digital Services. There is a clear difference in both quality and cost. Check it out.

Great comparison. Thanks so much! Helps those of us considering transfer houses.

I appreciate that you went to the trouble to make this video sharing your experience! I'm in a similar conundrum (Super8 transferred to VHS around the same year as yours but want to know if I can get better video/sound quality out of any of them). Loved your suggestion to look through film and be very selective. That helps a lot. Now I need to find a way to view them without owning a Super8 Sound projector or using a lightbox (thus handling the film more).

Thanks, Scott. I'm now a subscriber to you channel! About 20 years ago, i copied all of my 75 rolls of Super 8 film to MiniDV tape using a projector, a 45 degree prism and my trusty Canon GL1 video camera. I recently purchased a 1080P digital convertor and I will let you know how that goes.

Thanks, very informative. The 1080P DIY may be the winner, I always like stuff.

I have used larsen digital many times before. Love their work! I just acquired my families super 8 collection, and there is 9050 feet approximately. So at straight cost with larsen it will cost about 2700 dollars. I'm gonna see what they bid me for a bulk rate.

Good idea, and you could also edit that down if there's some stuff you really don't need in there. Good luck.

Nice. I like the way you compared. However, I always feel that you should never send anything in a box that maybe lost. Never to be replaced. I provide a local service here in Salem Oregon. I must tell you that I have redone many reels of 8mm film from other companies. I feel the personal one on one service like you got from Larson is the best. Thanks for your effort of sharing your experience with all of us here on YT.

Thanks, I'll probably be driving through Salem once or twice in the next couple weeks as I head out to the Coast as I have family in Corvallis and Waldport.

@@ScottLawPhotography Pops Digital World 3945 Rich Drive NE 97305. Most all the 8mm from Legacy Box are dark. I had a customer with the same problem as you. Tedd
