Uhm as a girl, I wear black to prevent my period from showing (just in case). It also hides stains for kids who can’t afford to get new clothes, covers parts of your body you may not want to draw attention to, and absorbs the suns rays which keeps people warm in winter. How are you gonna ban the most useful color?
True. How can I be the menace that wears a black sweatshirt and sweatpants in summer and become a living radiator? Also, literally every pair of pants I have are black, like mfer I need that color so my dingaling won’t be dangling 😭
it also is very good for not drawing attention to yourself a lot of people have social anxiety or don't like other people and need something to hide behind like black clothes.
Guys are schools actually blaming student’s depression on wearing black?! That’s literally so stupid, school is the reason! If you don’t want us to be depressed don’t treat us like shit!
The way schools find the funding for resources to restrict students but won’t put any effort or money into updating the education system or better and a more reasonable curriculum is beyond me. You want me to wake up early every day and be content with being herded like sheep into little rooms and the eat food that is comparable to food that prisoners get all while abiding by every rule and restriction you tell me? For what reason? School has not become a benefit for kids anymore they don’t teach children so that they learn they teach students to pass the standardized state tests so that they can get more funding. Will they only reform schools when students finally decide that they need to take drastic measures? For Americas sake I hope not 😬
last week there was a shooting at my best friend’s school. my friend had their phone and was able to text me and their parents “ hey my school just went in lockdown, i heard gunshots. if anything happens just know that i love you” then, when they evacuated the students, my friend was able to call us and tell us that they were okay. the families of students who didn’t have their phones had no idea if their kid was okay or not until hours later. although phones are a distraction, with the state that america is in, we can’t take phones away from students because of situations like these.
you’re right but it’s so fucking ridiculous that it’s reached a point where we can’t ban phones in school because there are regularly shootings in which children need their phones send their possible last words to their parents. and that out of phones and guns, it’s the phones that are getting banned.
We had a lockdown at my school and I heard gunshots and screaming, I couldn't even text my mom or my friends in other schools bc we can't have our phones out, I was crying and my mind was racing and I just wanted my mom to know that I love her...
I also have problems but I wear black because it’s the only color that looks good on me, if I even try to wear white I look like a bedsheet. Most colors don’t go well with white hair :(
I’m so tired of students having no rights in their education areas. Banning mirrors in the bathroom, dress codes, no phone usage at all, etc. so many of the problems would be fixed with giving their students a voice. If I could have my phone at lunch and in between classes then maybe I wouldn’t be using it during class to text my mom. If we taught students to behave themselves instead of enabling their disgusting behaviour, I could wear an actual tank top in 90-100 degree weather with a pair of shorts. Students don’t respect teachers because they don’t want to be there. Schools are such miserable environments that I literally have panic attacks thinking about going back on Sunday. It’s a horrible atmosphere, and the last thing I want to do is take notes and listen to a lecture while signing a dress code slip.
im an adult and its literally bull how minors have no rights and how you’re just supposed to bow down to the adults just because they’re “authority figures” and not allowed to have any opinions just shut up and listen. i had so many problems growing up because of it, many of them abuse their power
i talked to my biology teacher a few days ago about phone bans. he said he wishes they were done at our school, and i told him i disagree because of school shootings. he straight up laughed and said "okay, but realistically, how likely is that to happen?" the next day a fourteen-year-old student opened fire in his high school in georgia. i'm firmly anti-phone ban. edit: why are people fighting in the replies
as an autistic person, i need headphones on to function in loud, public settings, be it school, a concert, or a grocery store. not even playing music or connected to my phone. my school banned having headphones in the hallway and confiscated mine. i don't get them back until THE. END. OF. THE. YEAR. and i need them for other loud settings that aren't school related and don't have them. safe to say my mom is pissed.
PLEASE get a 504 plan they should not be able to take them away from you!!! im also autistic and i have them on my 504 it is the biggest help ever i really hope you can have yours as an accommodation :( goodluck!!
@@KHRIS0L0GYthen it's even more illegal than if they were violating a 504. It would be nice if your parents could get involved legally but being that you're in a tiny conservative town idk if that's even possible
@@KHRIS0L0GYif you have an IEP and/or 504 and it states that you are allowed your headphones, then it is illegal both for them to take them and deny you their use. I suggest reminding them about them breaking the law by taking them.
A problem with banning phones in schools is like if there is a school shooting, who's calling 911 if the the teachers don't find out immediately ?? Who's calling their parents to say goodbye to them in that event, who's calling 911 if there is a fire and a teacher refuses to belive a student and all the fire alarms are got locked up so the kids can't prank pull them ? And what if a kid has strict or helicopter parents and they have to keep their parents updated extremely often ? The phone ban doesn't make much sense except for like to make sure your kids aren't cheating or something -a confused person who was homeschooled
The idea is that the school is supposed to contact the parents instead. As a student is unable to stay calm enough to explain the situation, while someone else can. Is it a good explanation: no is it an explanation: yes
@@candicraveingcloude2822 that's literally so dumb, maybe if schools taught the kids what to do in a stressful situation they wouldn't freak out like tf
Bro imagine going to school and u cant wear normal clothes, have no firm of communication and cant even talk to anyone cause ur school banned everything, BROO THATS CALLED A PRISON
I'm in the middle East and we've had these rules for like forever we can't wear any colors just black and white clothes WE CANT EVEN WEAR OUR CLOTHES ITS UGLY ASS UNIFORMS and about the phones they would literally yell at you if you had it at school and they would take it and give it back at the END OF THE SEMESTER like dude wtf??? And there was never mirror's in school because its like a sin for them for someone to look good like I'm sorry for trying to look my best in public?? And we couldn't wear make up or have long nails or anything it's like you're going to jail it's exhausting really you can't even do anything and the break is so dhirt it's like 10 minutes and the classes are like 45 minutes and there is no break between the classes you just stay in the same class and the teachers go out and in like my ass is numb after sitting on those wooden chairs
My teacher banned using the bathroom unless it’s during our five minute passing period but when classes are across campus it takes five minutes to get to class
In the uk we don’t even get a passing period and if you ask to go to the toilet in lesson your told no unless you have a medical pass from a doctor or your genuinely going to wee yourself
Back in my middle school, you need to have a key to get in, and you have to get it from your teachers. Imagine being on your period or needing to use the bathroom so bad, but can't because the doors are locked. Not to mention you can't use the bathing within the first or last 5-10 minutes of class
My school has this rule where they take away your phone for TWO WHOLE WEEKS. So when you get home, you have no access to anything, and even when there's one week left of school and your phone gets taken, you need to wait after the half term break to get it back.
its crazy how much schools are genuinely ruining kids’ mental health, by claiming what theyre doing is better for their mental health. teenagehood is a rough time, and some people do use their phones as a distraction, which can drop their grades if they arent careful. but for teachers, its fine if you see someone using their phone and take it away to make them focus, but to have everyone lock their phones in a magnetic locking pouch until the end of the day instead of using that money to pay teachers, or provide school supplies is genuinely crazy.
I live in Portugal, so not allowing phones was already normal in my school (my school is a private school and it's terrible). But if they take away the mirrors, I'm so f-cked. I NEED THEM FOR MY CONTACTS- (Not the contacts on your phone, I'm talking about what I use to LITERALLY SEE)
Yea Most private schools are bad you just gotta hope you're lucky and get the good ones I've been in provate school for 4 years and just now my old school I returned to is decent The first decent one I went to try to look for private schools that allow/have alot of disabled kids they are easier cause the standards are lower
Someone from Georgia here! Today we had a school shooting, I couldn’t imagine having no phone during a school shooting. There were messages released to the public from some of the kids who texted their parents. But just situations where you NEED your phone. Edit: I am ok, 4 people died 9 people were hospitalized. The shooter's name was Colt Gray, and he was a 14-year-old student
from cali, one of my teachers mentioned that shooting directly after talking about our stricter phone policy and that was my first thought. the reason most parents give kids phones in the first place is for safety. them being as strict as they are now in places as populated and dangerous as LA is such a disaster
absolutely NOBODY at my school (with the exception of me, because im emo) wears all black CONSISTENTLY. i am 100% sure they’re citing “mental health issues” because of the fact that the rate of mental health issues in the alternative community specifically are so high. BUT, even though alt people are prone to have problems mentally, this is a stereotype. not everyone who dresses emo, or goth, or punk is depressed. just like how people who DON’T dress alternative can be depressed. it’s not a requirement to be emo if you have bad mental health. it is clothing. it is something you WEAR. let kids wear black clothes if they want to wear black clothes.
For me I feel like if you don’t want to be seen in school you wear black which is so real and understandable to me like I never wanted to talk to anyone when I was in school
Georgia high school student here There have been school shootings everywhere, one of them was 35 minutes away from my school, which shook me to the core we cannot make threats EVEN IF we were joking, 64 students have been arrested, they even get arrested for even making the slightest joke about threats, you could be joking, it does NOT matter, you will be arrested and called to court, the middle school banned phones entirely which understood why, we cannot carry messenger bags to make it easier on us cause we only have 5 minutes to get from point a to point b, even if we have to run across campus to get to the building your class is in. Its stupid, Georgia is stupid for the no threat law thing, if they want to try, THEY BETTER START MAKING BIGGER EFFORTS!! Stopping threats and arresting innocent people for joking is INSANE, what should start happening is bag checks, looking for weapons, more police around the schools, some teachers should be trained with a weapon to protect us incase the worst I cannot wait to leave this dump.
12:17 some kids wear black as a ‘safe color’ since everything matches black, (and it can hide chest/ over sexualized parts of the body, or depending on what you wear help with how your perceived) also some kids have body issues or self harming issues, and some kids just think it looks cool.
As a californian, my sister attends a school that absolutely does not care about their students. There was recently a fire by my sister’s school and they were still required to be at school, which is insane considering how that can affect their health (stuff like breathing in the smoke, ashes all over the floor, etc.) The principal also said (which just proves that she doesn’t care about the students’ mental health), “Okay, (student’s name) is getting bullied, as long is the student getting bullied isn’t self harming, I don’t care and that student isn’t getting provided a therapist.” That is just insane to me.
I’m from California and the kids there are only getting worse. The teachers don’t have the resources to try to control every student and their behavior.
That's unfortunate, as a fellow Californian, I had a whole week off of school because of a fire nearby. You could even smell the smoke inside the house, I think it lasted for a couple days. I also had Homecoming this same week on Saturday, but it was most likely canceled.
I go to Achieveable dream in Newport News and there was shooting across the street from us. Two teens died and heritage and Menchville had no school that day but for some reason we still had school and the principal acted like nothing happened
my high school had pretty normal dress code for a public school. no tank tops, shorts had to be a certain length, no holes in your jeans above the knees, no hats etc. i genuinely can't think of a good reason to ban the color black, that takes away at least half my clothing options. and what's the line? if i wear a black shirt with a pattern/words on it is that allowed? or if just my shirt is black is that too much? it seems so arbitrary and just a way to inconvenience everybody. and i can PROMISE wearing black wasn't (and still isn't) affecting my mental health, it was waking up at 6am each day. i also understand phone bans TO A DEGREE- you shouldn't be on your phone in class unless it's some kind of emergency/necessity. some people might actually need their phone to monitor a health condition or as an accessibility tool. or, if there's an emergency, they can call for help. it's easier just to write up people who are being irresponsible, or just let them face the consequences of not paying attention.
i just graduated high school in june, and the "e-hallpass" was SO annoying. being fully 18 and having to ask to use the bathroom, and then having to wait for the teacher stop class to accept my pass request was so annoying. then having to raise my hand when i got back to ask if they could "please end my pass". so weird and frustrating. also, for a period of time during covid around my sophomore year, we weren't allowed to use the bathroom for the first ten minutes of class or the last 10 minutes, meaning you would have to go during the 20 minutes in between where you're actually learning something. so happy to be in college and free
YES. WE HAVE BOTH THESE TOO. i’m from indiana where we have a complete phone ban and my friends joke at me about being addicted but like… my parents text me info i need to know, checking the time, telling my parents info, being able to find friends easier TO SOCIALIZE., to check my notes app for passwords, to listen to music, (because they have music platforms blocked) to take a picture of the notes i need and so on and so forth. genuinely i believe our society is so reliant on them you can’t just “lock them away” and call it good. plus, i KNOW there are kids who need it more than i do too. i really just don’t understand. so far, from all my friends in school and across the area, everyone keeps them in their pencil pouch, (including myself) 🤷♀️ the THREAT of taking away phones helps. the ban does not. it’s so irritating, and frankly, he’s right 😭 school is SO boring sometimes. edit: also listening to music is seriously the only thing that helps me focus. like, i cannot do any work in silence… so for me, this phone ban is affecting my grades NEGATIVELY. my anxiety goes thru the roof just in case something happens and i don’t have any access to it. it’s so anxiety inducing which leads to me not being able to focus!!!! you’re making my academic life worse and my mental health worrrssseeeeee
I just hate asking teachers in general to go do my business, I just find it weird. Sure, I get that you gotta state where you're going but holy hell, I don't wanna tell the class when I gotta use the restroom. But it's weird, awkward and not for kids who want to talk.
I dont understand the country that has so many literal school shootings wanting to take away phones, bc if those magnets aren't accesable in emergency situations that just sounds really dangerous as much as its not good for education 😭
@@voidsnail how in the name of God is a kid ducked at the back of the classroom during a shooter situation fona be able to go to the office and call their parents
I have no problem with the phone problem. What I do have a problem with is how they are so focused on these bans and enforcing them, but we cant put any more effort into stopping gun violence.
Or more awareness into why people do these kinds of things. Like telling a kid they “can’t” do something literally only makes them want to do it more. At the very least tell them why they “can’t” or rather shouldn’t*
yea, no phones are fine but they should be focusing on other stuff. Playing roblox during math class is nothing compared to what happened in georgia a few days ago.
@st4rry0npawz the shooting happened just about 1 hour away from my school. It's scary, and they promise all this security stuff but I see more focus on the dress code than anything
why the fuck ban black clothes? 90% of my wardrobe is bright, rainbow colors and I'm still fucking depressed- there's literally no reason to ban a certain color, it does nothing but make it so much harder for kids to fuckin express themselves
What the hell? I graduated 5 years ago and I was starting to notice students losing freedoms towards the end of my time in high school. I didn't think it would get worse. Even before it got this bad, I had a hard time adjusting to college because the freedom felt so foreign. This is a horrible way to prepare students for the future, unless you're trying to prepare them for prison...
This is so true. These kids aren't going to be prepared for the amount of freedom they get in college and the real world. Let them experience at least a little bit of it at school.
Just graduated from a public high school, here's some of the craziest shit: -No doors on the bathrooms, many stall doors were broken so that wasn't fun -You need a signed pass from a teacher to use the bathroom -You only get 5 passes a month -You needed a 504 plan or an IEP to get a quiet space for work, but the school often denied those to kids on free/reduced lunch programs -The nurse played favorites, if she didn't like you she'd accuse you of skipping class -Hats, phones, and swears on shirts were supposedly banned but nobody ever followed that tbh -There was a fucking gas leak and they didn't let us leave so I called my dad and pretended he had an emergency Oh also our school made NATIONAL NEWS because the athletic director faked a recording of the principal being racist. He is racist, but the recording was fake. Everyone hated him though so it's ok
5 passes!?!?!? my school only had 3 a month and you had to sign out on a sheet AND get a signed pass just to leave the room. and those 3 passes arent just for the bathroom its for just LEAVING THE ROOM-.. gosh man i hate highschool. cant wait for graduation
Here are the rules at my school (might seem dumb but- im indian if that explains it?) : 1. Wearing your uniform is mandatory on all days (except for ur bday ofc), and if you fail to wear your uniform, like literally even forget your ID card or black shoes on most weekdays and white shoes on Saturday and Wednesday, you will be sent back home. (i have a shitass uniform btw ;-;) 2. Phones are prohibited. 3. You will be left to stand outside the locked school gate if you arrive later than 8:40. 4. There smth called a "morning diary" where you have to write down everything you studied the previous day, mind you, you have to fill this in EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. If you fail to do so, you will be punished (stand outside the classroom for the next 3 classes (120 mins), write down the portions for the next exam 20 times, etc..etc... Oh and you have to get the signature of your parent. 5. Very rarely, you will be allowed to wear something other than your uniform, like on festivals...Sleeveless dresses/shirts r not allowed, jeans are prohibited for girls (or literally anything that clings to your legs), pants must touch your ankle, casual shirts are not allowed, only traditional dresses are allowed, and the dress must reach the back of your knee atleast, HAS to cover your thighs. 6. Walking around the corridor during breaks (10 mins, 30 mins if lunch) is not allowed. The students must go to the restroom in line and return in line. 7. Yeah, there are literally no mirrors in the bathroom, they aren't maintained pretty well either, for girls atleast. 8. Hairstyles other than double braids are not allowed. (Single braids, ponytails, hair down...yeah none of that cute stuff is allowed) 9. 95% of attendance is required if you wanna write your board exams~ Yes i have the right to rant about this, im in the 9th grade and HAVE to follow every single one of these rules, and im sure i forgot some more stupid ones. + i have school from 8:20 AM to 5:00 PM so ;-;
@@gilded-lilyWell they're excused if they have rlly rlly short hair but yeah if your hair is longer than your shoulder no matter the texture, you'll have to wear 2 braids
Based on the school sh00ting that happened yesterday in Georgia where 2 kids died, the no phone rule is not going to go well. My school doesn’t have strict phone rules (they either stay in your backpack or in a pencil case) but my mom has said that if they ever do the magnetic bags to hide my phone in my bag so I can contact her if something happens. School isn’t a safe place anymore and everything they try to do to make it “safer” makes it worse
When I went to school, I witnessed the transition to banning open campus'. And then I went through the ban of staying indoors during lunch. Some teachers let students in their classrooms under the guise of "doing work". One of my teachers allowed me and a select few to stay in her classroom because it was raining outside. Things are getting very restrictive, it's sad to see
We have that too like even I u wanna check the time on ur phone or call ur parents if a dean or the principal sees u he's gonna take ur phone away for like a week minimum, n ur parents cant even do anything about it even if they're on ur side
@@M4t_P4tGTthat was how my charter middle school was. I remember getting in trouble for having it out by the principal because I had it out in the morning before classes even started????
with the amount of school shootings happening, it scares me to think that my school is going to take away my only line of communication and ill die without being able to tell my family that I love them one last time. banning phones is wrong. there have always been incidents where kids called the police and saved lives because there was someone with a weapon or having a medical emergency. I completely understand saying no phones during class and having them put away during class, but with the state of the US today, I genuinely fear not having my phone during school because I might get shot in class and I just want to tell my family that I love them in case I die.
Banning phones is not wrong and I'm sure if there was a case like that, they would unlock them and even then I could be a good thing to not have a bunch of freaked out kids on their phones reading unconfirmed information.

In an emergency such as a shooting as a student fuck the phones bruh we're either hiding or fighting for our life, also it would take more time out of our lives just to get the damn phones instead of running or hiding
as a student, i understand the “no phones in class” rule, but my school (florida) has this pocket thing on the back of the door were you put your phone, IF YOU USE IT IN CLASS meaning you can keep it in your bag until class end or the teacher says you can use it! but the thing is, even if you have you phone in the pocket you can easily grab it in case of an emergency! (i believe this is actually a great idea, and it works well too)
my school banned all makeup, all jewelry (unless it’s a cross or has mother marry on it), hair ties, chapstick, running, sitting if we’re out side, we’re only allowed to have our hair down and natural color, talking in art class, and a lot more random shit i literally hate my school so much omg 😭
I’m so sorry to everyone who is in school right now. High school was terrible for me and NONE of these rules were a thing… I can’t even imagine what you guys have to go through
Black is popular around every high school I think. I live in Florida, and everyone still wears all black hoodies ,shirts, pants, etc. like that, even in the middle of summer where it's extra hot. I think its just that no one can really judge you if they have nothing to judge. Also, they're comfy af, cheap, doesn't look half bad, and doesn't take too much time to actually make something that matches. Also, DEPRESSION SYMPTOM!? WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT! IMAGINE GOING TO SCHOOL WEARING BLACK CLOTHES AND BEING PULLED ASIDE BY A TEACHER AND THEY START THEIR SENTENCE OFF WITH "hey jimmy, what going on at home? I see you've come to school with black clothing. Do you want to talk about it?" HUH?
im also in fl and wear dark clothing kinda constantly, its js easy to put together w anything 😭yeah it gets hot as FUCK outside but no need to BANNNN THE CLOTHES??
my school is literally being threatened with shooting rn (mississippian here) and it was ALL OVER the school snapchat story. i went to school today and no one was allowed to stand outside in the courtyard where people normally stand. or outside in general. there were admin standing at every location and we all either had to be in our first class of the day or the cafeteria for breakfast. i can attest to not having a phone during this because i dont have service and they recently changed the wifi password so i have no form of communication until i get home unless i have a hotspot. thats fucking terrifying as is. but WILLINGLY taking a kids phone who is in this situation because "theyre gonna get distracted in class" is actually so dumb it may be bringing my iq closer to room temperature. and also! as someone who is mentally ill enough to have literally been sent to a facility in april (3rd times the charm (ugh)) and put under police investigation because "i threatened the school" (was in a bad mental place that ended with me making poor "jokes" that were just manifestations of frustration) this is absolutely stupid as fuck lol. wearing black does not have shit to do with it. black is a comfortable color because it goes with every other color imaginable, its warm in the winter, it hides the parts of my body i dislike (hashtag transgender or whatever), its comfortable, its common, its easy to hide stains and holes and whatever because im broke asf and wear like 5 shirts maximum. i cannot BEGIN to comprehend where these people get these ideas that doing all of this backwards junk is going to help anything. its mind-boggling. i had to get a hold of my therapist on friday and i was having a whole existential crisis about becoming a part of society and everything thats wrong with the world right now and she said "its not about you though. yeah it sucks but theres nothing you can do about it, at the very least not right now, and its not affecting you, so you need to focus on yourself right now," but that doesnt bring into consideration that its shit like THIS that absolutely DOES leave an effect on me. school admins will wonder why teen suicide rates are so high, why the mental health crisis numbers have gone up, why kids are more prone to violence, why theyre not well behaved. its because you dont treat your students and even the teachers at times like they have ANY SENSE OF INTELLIGENCE. theres no respect on their end. theres not an OUNCE of self reflection and all they can pin the blame on is the victim, which is INSANELY ironic with how the see something say something shit arises. ugh. i could go on about this for fucking EVER but this is already wayyy too long so. yhegjihrijkgsga i hope they get a grip
my school’s bans: - leggings and ripped jeans - earrings, nail polish, and any jewelry on guys - non-visible socks - unnatural hair color - anything with a logo - shorts (on anyone) - skirts above the knee - sandals/crocs/any shoe that’s not completely close-toe - facial piercings - makeup that’s too noticeable
I have a uniform at my school, I don’t even have a choice 😭, it’s a navy shirt, kakki or plaid skirt, and black or white shoes (no tennis shoes, why?!) I hate my school so fking much-
THANK YOU, i was PISSED when i found out about this this morning. they say we’re okay with it, but we get suspended, expelled, and detention if we speak out about it
@@cynikov yeah they don’t care 😭 they said that if we were caught using our phones they’d take them for the day, and then said that if we keep getting caught, they’re ‘taking them’ taking them. no one elaborated on what that meant. also banning clothes is so insane to me. i can understand if their “innapropriate” but the color black? SHIRTS? and they’re call of “black causes depressive moods” no, depression causes depression?? (and that’s still not even right) also banning the color black sounds vaguely racist imo 😭 idk they care more about money, and being the good guys, and ‘shaping us’ instead of trying to put restrictions on killing machines, taking actions against bullies, or creating safe environments where we don’t NEED a phone ban, a place where kids genuinely want to be engaged

@@cynikov thank you so much 🙏 yeah it’s actually insane, considering how many shootings and threats have been occurring and they still won’t allow us to have our phones
@@ray_washere ugh right?? and that's a whole other problem, schools are enabling tragedies to happen by enacting the wrong things and not enacting the right things. had a kid who threatened to shoot up my school, hit list and all, screenshot proof and everything, and nothing was done until he told his friend he had an…inappropriate dream abt his 10 yr old sister…dont get why they don't take action on shit like that instead of phone lockers like what 💀
as someone who does actually use their phone as medical device, it has been so hard to go up to my classmates and teachers and say that i can use my phone and have to prove to every single one of them that i am in fact disabled and need to use it. my school doesn't do the little pouches, but you will get detention (and sometimes your grades tanked) if you are seen with it anywhere in the school. one time i was at lunch and i almost got my phone taken away because i needed to use it. ever since then, i've went into the bathroom to use it and would just have to hope that no one else is in there. anyway, my point is that i have personally experienced a lot of problems whenever i need to use my phone for medical reasons because of these rules that ban everything.
@plexaroni they seriously need to have exceptions for this. I'm now in a place too where I need my phone for medical purposes and to communicate when I do have a medical issue. I actually had an instance today: I had a bad asthma attack triggered by my classmate applying perfume..on top of bad asthma I also happen to have vocal cord disfunction that gets triggered with scents and causes me to lose my voice. I had already taken my inhaler but started getting really dizzy due to a lack of oxygen. Being unable to speak, I grabbed my phone to type out what I needed to convey to my teacher, which allowed me to get to the health room and get more help. I was lucky today that I happened to be with the one teacher who doesn't listen to the ban. If an administrator knew, however, that teacher could lose their job
Me too! I have severe hearing loss in both of my ears, and i have settings on my phone that make it easier for me to hear, but my hearing aids have to be connected to my phone and obviously i have to have access. Without my phone i also have no idea what percentage theyre at, and sometimes my phone and hearing aids disconnect from each other randomly and i have to reconnect them again and then fix my settings again.
i have selective mutism and i use my phone as a communication device/aac device. sometimes teachers and other students give me trouble snd try to take it from me even though they know i have an exception to have it 😞
I am so glad he talked about it! I'm a senior in highschool and it feels like jail. We aren't even able to go to the bathroom during class. We have 5 minutes to get to class from different buildings and aren't allowed to go to the bathroom the first 15 minutes or last and in between we have to take a tardy and we get 5 tardys a semester. It really is ridiculous. Schools administrators talk about the metal health problems but what are they doing about it? Making us feel less like humans and more like prisoners. Maybe make people not dread going to school and there would be less issues in the first place.
my friend lives in england and heres just some of the things she cant do at her school - no false lashes - no makep - no jewelry (except 2 studs in ur ears) - no body or face piercings - no jackets (you can wear a small one in winter outside but if it has a logo it'll be taken away and you can get it on friday) - no unnatural hair colors (she JUST got her hair dyed and it was super expensive and now she has to dye it back :( ) - no tights or leggings - cant wear pants if youre a girl - no logos on anything - no sunglasses - no handbags/cross body hands/clutches (basically any type of bag that isn't a backpack) - if your skirt isn't past your knees you get detention (this especially sucks my friend lives in a area where a lot of people are in borderline poverty so some people cant afford to buy new school uniforms, so they have to wear old ones that don't fit so they get detention for something they literally cannot control) - no phones at all - no candy/soda/anything with sugar (generally anything you brought from home isn't allowed to have any sugar in it but they sell things with sugar in their cafeteria?) - no sneakers, boots, winter shoes, etc. basically any shoe that isn't these really uncomfortable mary jane type shoes. and im pretty sure there's a lot more but if you break any of these you get detention or sent to isolation...shes been sent to isolation/detention several times when a teacher THINKS shes breaking a rule but she literally didn't.
The school is use to go to banned wearing any jumper or jacket we were freezing in winter and sometimes in late autumn. And then they would kick us out in winter if you are in the hallway even if its just you or another person but literally theres was no place to go to. We were allowed makeup but only natural but I’m pretty sure they allow false eyelashes. And if it gets hot in spring sometimes we couldn’t even take the blazer off. People were shaking due to the cold. It’s even dangerous when it goes below the negatives which is more likely to happen in winter but due to climate change it will probably be less likely in the future but still its dangerous. And even we were forced to be outside when it’s raining. There was far too much homework for anyone and due to this i would get burned out because i tend to work far too hard. The soap dispensers were not even cleaned sometimes.
Things my school has banned and actually enforces: -phones -platform boots/combat boots -anything that covers your ears -baseball hats -backpacks being outside of lockers -using the school issued chromebooks in the library??? -using your locker during passing periods -using the restroom for longer than 5 minutes - wayyyy more Things my school has banned and DOESN'T enforce: -physical bullying -verbal bullying -saying slurs -discrimination -microagressions
I still wear sunglasses anyways bc I don't think at my school they have banned them but I feel bad for other autistic people/people with sensory issues who's schools have
this is especially bad because some kids, like me, NEED headphones. I have extreme audio sensitivity so i constantly need earbuds to muffle things but even with an IEP i still get yelled at and such. banning a tool to help someone from not having a panic attack three times a day is insane. it just makes me more afraid of school than I already am. this year im a sophomore and thankfully they havent made us lock up our phones (yet) but theyve still banned everyone from using them on school grounds.
@@bouvet_ yep, ive got an iep which is essentially a little sheet saying a can have things to help with my panic disorder (including headphones which is stated in the order) although the teachers dont bother to follow it too closely

im british, no mirrors in the bathrooms, yondr pouches you'd have to pay £15 to replace if you lost/damaged it, no door to the toilet rooms and cctv cameras right outside (there were cubicle doors tho obviously), some toilets were barricaded off during lessons, you had to have a toilet pass or time out pass to leave and go to the toilets, frequent bag searches for phones/vapes and isolations or detention if you had them on you, no nail polish of any colour, detention if you rolled your skirt, specific sock colours you had to have for each uniform (we were a merged co-ed school with different uniforms and pe kits), one piercing on the ears and no other piercings whatsoever (not even nose ones), hair up and all jewellery off for pe, no rings or bracelets whatsoever and no necklaces unless they were a cross, star or other religious symbol
outright banning phones in a country where you kid could get shot at literally any moment is probably one of the worst things, communication is absolutely NECESSARY especially for kids with health issues if kids arent using their phones to go on shapchat every five minutes they dont need them taken away

Bro, my school tried to ban us from going into the bathroom, but that didn't work, so they gave us 4 bathroom passes to last us the entire year. It's crazy out here
@@maisie3252 we have infinite bathroom passes, they say that if you have to go just write signature time in and out. But some teachers may only let you go to the bathroom once in the class period
my school used to have something similar but it was like 15 per marking period then they had a sign out sheet and a clipboard that served as a pass which was a good system but some kids took advantage of it and used it too much so then they made it digital but idrk how that makes it better because it's literally the same system but the sign out sheet is a google form its honestly just inconvienent
@phantom262 Yeah, that's what it was originally, but people kept stealing other people's bathroom passes, doing illegal substances, leaving the school, and vaping. Like I get that most of the kids are doing bad things, but I'm 100% positive. There's another way to fix it then taking away our bathrooms.
I disagree on the phone ban not because I want to use my phone in school but because if you don't have your phone on you at school it's gonna be hard to notify your parents if you're in something like an active shooter situation. As much as I don't think school is a place to use your phone, they are there for a reason and we shouldn't ban them completely
Exactly, and I think that being able to keep your phone on your is a better way of teaching students self control than babying them and forcing them to put it in a catty or something. If a student is genuinely having trouble staying off of their phone it should be their responsibility for themselves to learn from their own mistakes, because if you're not paying attention and you're on your phone the entire time you're not only going to make things worse for yourself because you won't understand what's going on and it's disrespectful just in general to sit on your phone while someone is talking to you, but being able to keep it near you and having the self control of having it near you and still paying attention and to maybe only check it occasionally or when needed is a lot more useful of a skill to develop for later in life. In a job your boss isn't gonna take your phone away, they'll fire you for not doing your job. It's just not a realistic standard to give students that won't help them out in the real world Sorry that was really long
If there were an active shooter at my school 1 it would be very surprising theres less than 150 people there 2 i am in the type of rural area where highschoolers have their dads rifle in their back window 3 everyone will beat the heck out of you with a doorstop made from horse shoes And 4 i will not be there to see what happens i will be gone, like deckin it out the window We once had a lockdown and one of the teachers didn’t get on the roster so she didn’t get any info and there were like 12 dads circling the school like sharks likely with guns because they thought something was happening but thats just cause 10 kids(including me) were in the room with the teacher who didn’t know what was happening so she was never told there was no issues and heard there was a guy in the school with a knife. It was just a normal guy outside two blocks(less than 100ft) away on drugs angry at someone also outside the school. It was funny because one of the girls was somehow still having an absolute breakdown in the corner and i was asleep under the teachers desk(i was small)
there was a school shooting a couple days ago in a city abt half an hour from me (im in georgia) the fact that theyre trying to ban phones while THIS is an ongoing issue is absolutely insane. but ofc no matter how many times this happens, nobody in power is gonna take it seriously smh
my school board threatened to take away the girl's bathroom stall doors. though legally they could never, just the mere thought disgusts me. and the reasoning for it was that there was too much vandalism. another crazy thing is they threatened to take away our bathroom privilege's ENTIRELY. we'd have to take bathroom breaks as an entire class as high schoolers. so during the 8 hours of school, you'd only be allowed the bathroom once or twice a day, which as a girl with a period that simply doesn't work. school rules are going to far atp.
vandalism???? what the fuck, is that their concern? you just gotta piss or SHIT or switch your PADS (everyone can hear all these too) with no doors and anyone can see and any person can just walk in?? people can take photos, boys can (AND WILL) walk in to see😭😭 no fuck this being illegal, did they really not think this through and thought the parents would be okay with it?? NO ONE is shitting with no door
Oh god that's disgusting. That sounds something that fucking gross ass pedophiles would do. No no no, what the hell is happening to schools?!?! They're not really safe places ANYMORE

I went to a tiny public school 8 years ago and the only things that were banned was hats and clothes with obscenities on them. Obviously you’d get in trouble if you were playing on your phone in class or had your earbuds in, but phones weren’t totally banned.
my school banned: not having your hair tied / having your hair open, makeup, phones, any electronics, nail polish, accessories (except for small earrings, but hoops arent allowed), shoes that arent PURE black like they cant have any white/grey on it, socks that arent white and over your ankles, dyed hair, and hoodies that arent black/navy.
as someone who is IN SCHOOL AT THIS MOMENT, we in fact have almost nothing. my district now has extremely strict rules (they didn’t have last year) and so we have to put our phones either in our backpack or in those phone cubbies (which no one does) most teachers don’t care but it’s annoying as hell to hear “put your phone away” at least 10 times a day. AND. i forgot about this, last year we couldn’t wear our crocs that aren’t in sports mode, but now we can wear them however we want, BUT we can’t wear anything that shows even the slightest of our back, and as someone who only owns like tank tops, jackets are my savior. another thing is that in class i understand not eating, my school has an ant problem cus someone shoved food in the janitors closet, but we’re growing, WE NEED FOOD WHEN WERE HUNGRY. it’s dumb that we can’t eat when we’re hungry. we can’t wear crop tops, which is dumb cus why would a stomach disctract people. same thing with shoulders and backs, like bro😭

as a public school survivor, i feel so bad for people in (especially american) public schools right now. i am as well, but its a canadian art school- they care 10x more for the kids. also ben- to answer some of your questions 1. i didnt notice any large amounts of kids wearing excessive amounts of black? maybe its an american thing- all i notice is a lot of pyjama pants 💀 2. dude our teachers are usually so chill about phones, like they just ask to put it away, but this year you can just tell they feel so bad about enforcing it so much because they know it’s normal- they dont lock them away though? i think the office has like- a 3 strike thing, but usually the teachers don’t bring us to the office as i said, because they know we’re kids, (and lets be honest the teachers are on their phones and shit over lunch anyway) 3. my mom fully supports the phone ban and its so annoying because i love her, but i think she thinks kids are stupid, like we arent? 😭 again, my pov is from an 8th grader at an art school in alberta, which i’d consider quite accepting. so this could be completely different for other people
at my school they take away your phone if they even see it in your pocket then the parents or guardians HAVE to pick it up it sucks sm they told us to hide it from them or they’ll have to take it , ur right it’s not the same everywhere but they are getting more strict 😭
Kids are stupid, I’m 23 n there’s plenty of people my age n younger (who are grown adults) who can’t even read at a 2nd grade level so you should check into that again. I don’t think your generation is anyway better. N most people in America can’t afford to go to an art school like maybe a Canadian can. I get wym on your other points but you have a very rose colored view on the world coming from a place of privilege.
NO ONE IS USEING PHONES IN SCHOOL RN!! This is not happening 😭 students are to busy failing math classes/ doing homework to be on tik tok schools are over exaggerating the situation!!! Edit: black is a color The reason why everyone can’t read is because they’re all dyslexic like me and their parents don’t teach them to read That’s not all the teachers job
My schools dress code only tells us not to show our underwear not to wear hoods and no sunglasses I genuinely feel terrible for everyone who has strict dress codes
bro one time a teacher tried to dress code after she looked up my skirt? like it’s not like she saw bare ass because i had shorts on and also why the *fuck* was she looking up a high schooler’s skirt
I go to a uniformed public school (not that wierd in my home country) I kid you not the only acceptable colour pants is NAVY BLUE, and they don’t even allow jeans, I genuinely don’t know why it’s not just black.
My school had not only a phone ban, but also a total ban on piercings that weren't on your ears. Kids who already had piercings were expected to remove them. Our school also refused to pay for vape detectors, instead opting to prop the bathroom doors open. It sucked, they would do everything except fix the problems at hand.
School bans clothes, i never heard that before... oh wait, i live in the UK :c Same uniform for everyone, tie length needs to be right, shirt tucked in, blazers on always (sometimes ur alowed off if its a health hazard or a teachers nice on a hot day), girls have to have skirt lengths exatly knee hight or below but not too below (it sounds alright but they get detentions if its kinda tiny bit too short from the teachers point of veiw), hair has to be strict, black socks, school shoes (if its branded school shoes then its not allowed), if black socks have a tiny bit white its wrong (sometimes they get you to take your shoe off EVEN THO ITS A TINY SYMBOL THAT CANT EVEN BE SEEN WITHOUT TAKING THE SHOE OFF, girls have to have extremely natural looking make up, faces need to be shaved completely and not too short socks. All of these can get you a 1 h after school detention except from some that deem as minour, VERY LITTLE AMOUNTS THO, and they still get you lunch detention. Mufti days you wear home clothes but alot of the rules still aply, probably all of the clothe rules he mentioned in this vid aply to mufti also mufti days are rare and cost 1pound to perpicipate. Blazers are black btw so even if the weather forcast dont say its a health warning a black blazer still aint good in a badly air conditioned school. Also a lot of the other bans in this vid have been in a lot of UK schools for years. I miss pokemon card traiding, they banned it in a lot. We dont get the no black rule tho since most of schools uniforms are mostly all black.
Teachers always say "if theres an emergency, we'll call your parents." Im sure they would, but so many casualties could be prevented if students were allowed to have their phones in passing periods. I get that they don't want them during class because they can be distracting and they wouldn't be learning anything, but after class and before class starts should be okay. My heart and prayers go out to all the victims and victims familes and people involved of the recent school shooting in georgia, and anyone else who is a victem or survivor of a school shooting. These bans are getting out of hand. I'm lucky enough to go a school with a dress code that isn't that strict and where they let us have phones after school for clubs, but banning makeup, clothes colors, FUCKING HAIRSTYLES AND COLORS, and all around self expression saying it's " better for their mental health" and all that bullshit isn't helping at ALL. Sure maybe some kids are happier because they don't have phones and they don't feel as left out, but come on. Maybe instead of wasting money on stupid bags for phones and a bunch of other shit, they can use their money for paying teachers more, helping kids who are in an ACTUAL CRISIS, and improving education.
I am in college now, but my younger sibling is in highschool still. In Houston, they aren't even allowed to go to the bathroom. They make girls bring notes to the office from their parents to prove that they are on their period so they are allowed to use the restroom. They have armed police in the school, and will actually just arrest people for stepping too far out of line. The school system has been taken over by the state, and thousands of teachers are being fired and replaced with people who push the conservatives agendas. It is actually CRAZY out here. THEY PERMANENTLY CLOSED THE LIBRARY...
Sorta reminds me of when we had an assembly and a sub in the class we were in and the sub didn’t have the door key and it was at the end of the day. She went to go get it and istg she moved like molasses and I missed my bus
I myself just graduated highschool in June and I gotta say, I'm really glad that I did when I did because these restrictions are getting out of hand. I understand and definitely agree on the "Cellphones in classes are harmful" point, and yeah it would suck for the first little while cuz I'm used to it, but I'm thinking of the the future, like after the first couple months. Would people actually start talking to each other outside of their little friend groups again? Would talking to people you don't know become normal again? That would actually be awesome. I myself always wanna talk to people I don't know but I'm afraid that I'm gonna be looked at as weird because the world has gotten to this point where if you're not on your phone around people you don't know then you're the one whos weird and wrong, but in my head I don't quite get that. Whats weird to me is a group of people sitting in a room together on their phones completely silent, like what is that? The phones in classes is the only one I agree with, these other new restrictions like no black clothes and no bathroom mirrors are so fucking wack. Also the banned clothes list, half of those are like normal outfits that nobody outside of school would think twice about you wearing. Case and point though, schools are progressively stripping away kids freedom to just do stuff. Obviously children should be monitored because while they aren't stupid, they can make really stupid choices because they don't know any better yet, but having them have to write exactly how long they're gonna be in the bathroom for is straight up dystopian. Children are supposed to learn how life works by experiencing it, making mistakes, realizing a mistake was made, and then correcting it. That's the best way for anyone to learn actually, but when you funnel them into this specific way of living, they aren't gonna learn how anything other than what you put in front of them works, and additionally, if you want children to actually enjoy going to school, you not only have to make what you're teaching fun and engaging, but you have to let them have some amount of freedom and privacy. You can't just lock the children up and expect them to be happy and content with it. I hope things change for the better, thats all I can say, and by the way sorry for the yapenese lesson :)
In elementary school (late 90's/early 00's for me) the only things that were getting banned were Pokemon/Yugioh (for encouraging gambling) and Beyblades (for safety concerns). In highschool, I think the only restrictions we had were no hats, open toed shoes and "revealing clothing" but it was very subjective. Phones were still allowed, just not in class, which was fair. But hearing all this is absolutely insane. I'm not surprised there's been such a rise in youth mental health issues (which are definitely NOT caused by wearing black clothes) when they're literally being sent to the equivalent of a prison. No self expression, limited communication, banning of books, and the threat of possible gun violence. I feel so bad for these kids 🙁
So, the school I go to is technically public but has a uniform, and this year they made a really controversial change. So they introduced these “formal days” where you had to wear this 90 dollar school blazer, but they banned all hoodies, even ones that were bought from the school store with the school logo. I know a LOT of people who wouldn’t have the money for that kind of thing, and to take away a part of the uniform that’s vital in the winter months is so unfair. We also use the online hall pass and a system that controls basically everything on our chromebooks. The hall pass gives is 4 minutes MAXIMUM to do anything, and the system (which is called GoGuardian) blocks basically any and all websites, UA-cam videos (which a lot of teachers use for lessons) and it has a keystroke tracker, so it can see what you type. If you leave your camera app open it can see that too. Literally 1984
Oh, not GoGuardian. I’m telling you, you can’t do ANYTHING if GoGuardian is on. Even though my school uses it for a good reason (some people at my school are idiots), it’s still annoying when I use my computer at lunch and I can only view the same few websites.

You have to get a written pass to go to the bathroom (full name, time, date, teacher signature) 3. You can’t have more than 4 tardies the entire semester or you get detention 4. If you are late to school more than 4 times a year you will suffer consequences 5. You cannot leave school early without a doctors note after 5 times (this is the entire school year) 6. You now cannot switch your lunch for any reason (ex you want to switch from 5a to 5b because you have no friends in 5a) 7. Our school once banned toilet paper because people would shove the entire roll down the pipes to try to clog the toilets, after that they started flushing shirts.
the phone ban is useless. parents sometimes want their children to be able to have their phones to keep them updated. lots of parents worry, especially in america with the amount of god damn gun violence. the first month of school, there were bomb threats, THREE DAYS IN A ROW. having a phone with a child can make them feel safer. not even just shootings, students can have mental issues during class and need to be picked up during class. on the first month of school, i was so close to a panic attack in first period because of some work i had to do(it seems dramatic but i had to interview someone and write about it which can be incredibly scary and stressful) .even if there weren’t shootings, bombings, etc, the phone ban would still be useless. let’s be real, who would actually be okay with it. students could act like they don’t have a phone, keeping it in a bag or pocket. teachers can’t go through your personal items unless they have proof it’s breaking a law.
my school has banned boys wearing earrings, piercings other than ear piercings, dyeing your hair colors that arent natural (for example, dyeing your hair blue or purple is against dress code but colors like blonde and black would be fine), youre not allowed phones unless you ask a teacher, no hats UNLESS its a hat bought from the school (it should have the school colors, school logo, school name, district name, something like that), no sandals, no headphones (even at lunch or inbetween classes), and more 😭😭 we also have bible verses in the hallways and our teachers will talk about god and religion mid class. its a texas public school, preaching religion is illegal 🔥🔥🔥 theyre also taking away the bathrooms. like theres a solid 3 bathrooms that are closed and two of those are the only ones you can use during several classes without switching buildings. not to mention theyre banning those stanley cups. Hey chat, new freshman here!! Tip for yonder pouches, say u dont have a phone. Their not allowed to check ur bags. As much as i agree with the whole "no phone" thing, there are reasons you NEED to have your phone. If theres an emergency you NEED to call your parents, how is ANYONE supposed to notify police if they see a gun?? At my school, we can go off campus, but how are we supposed to check the time...? This will make us all late. We're not even allowed to have watches, and what if we cant afford a watch? Its a good idea, but its not safe.
You literally give the school emergency phone numbers when you attend a school, they have all your contact info and stuff about illnesses or allergies in their database. And when you need to call the police a whole classroom doesn’t only the teacher or principal does if there aren’t already some at your school for security. You shouldn’t be able to leave once you step on campus really because of truancy and being underage wandering outside of school, unless ur talking about college freshman in that case they probably don’t give a ship

We do random yondr checks throughout the day some days and if you are caught with it out of it it is put in the office for the rest of the day you can collect it after the finial bell and if you get caught with it again you have to hand it in and you get lunch detention. in summary its a stupid idea because about 50 kids actually out their phones away and the school pays so much money for the pouches. Also if you lock your phone away and then want it back you can just bang the spot where the magnet is that opens it on a table or a hard surface it opens.

I graduated last year and thank god. My school was slowly and slowly becoming more and more dystopian, especially during my senior year things went off the walls. I can only imagine it’s gotten worse this year. Some of my favorites throughout my years included- - This wasn’t the school specifically it’s was more a county thing so I don’t blame my school fully for this BUT the nurses weren’t allowed to give out any medication like basic Tylenol unless parents sent out things to allow it. - We had these stupid things called ‘Halo’ or something that could detect if kids were vaping in the bathroom. Now, this isn’t a problem on its surface but what was a problem is the fact I was actually in the bathroom when some other kid was vaping. Me and another girl were forced to stay outside for 15 minutes or so while waiting for the principal to come. There was another girl in the bathroom and it was CLEAR that she was the one who was vaping because she refused to come out even when the principal was there. Still me and the other girl had to go to the office and get searched for vapes (I don’t even own one). Our classes were 50 minutes each and I missed like 35 minutes, over half of my classes because I had the bad timing of being in the same bathroom of a girl vaping. I wasn’t even allowed to tell my teacher what was happening despite the fact my classroom was right by the bathroom. She was worried about what happened to me y’all cuz I was a good kid who didn’t skip. - Speaking of the bathroom specifically the sinks were somewhat broken in that one the year I could go to different classes after the Covid year (context: I started going to the school during the covid year and I was locked in one room the entire day, wasn’t till sophomore I went to different rooms for different classes.). These sinks were never fixed and only got worse and worse until only 1 barely worked when I left senior year. Hopefully they fixed them. HOPEFULLY. Honestly a lot of things in there were broken. We had a fire last year due to faulty electrical. Not even one, TWO. Heating didn’t work in half the rooms either. - we had the e-hall pass things a lot of other people have mentioned here. Luckily most of my teachers allowed us to accept and end the passes ourselves but the ones who didn’t it was really annoying to wait. - I forget the name exactly but our teachers had this program where they could watch our screens as well as lock away certain tabs or places. Sometimes I would finish my work early, have nothing else to do for the specific class yet not be able to work on other class work because I couldn’t access it. The teachers could also message kids too, no one ever used it expect my English 11 teacher who’d make big brother references (and no we didn’t read it, 1984 was for the 12th graders). Yeah. Also half the time the things would still be applied when you left your class. - Now this is the kicker here that makes people go “what the hell?” when I tell them about it. Last year my school installed electric locks all over the school. Basically, once class started all the building doors in the school locked and you had to get a teacher or staff member to let you in if you missed the 5 minute time frame. It took me like 3-4 minutes to get from one end of the school to another for context. You could leave the building if you wanted to but you couldn’t enter. If you needed to do something between classes you better hope it was in the building your class is in or you could do it in less than 5 minutes. Supposedly this was to “stop school shootings” but all it did was make things inconvenient for students and more late than they would be if the locks didn’t exist. Apparently there was supposed to be staff in the building by the door to let students in if they were late or missed it but in all the times I was late they were never there and I had to wait or get someone. The door also fucked yo and wasn’t unlocked when I and my class were coming back from lunch. This was during the winter months too and it was a really cold day and it was awful. I just think about how all that money they spent on shit that didn’t matter and made things harder for students could’ve been spent on fixing up the school. As for phones, the best way to stop kids from using them is to bribe them honestly lol. My Spanish teachers did last year. Said if we didn’t use our phones for a week we’d get our favorite drinks and snacks. We got them lol.
In the school that I go to, it is a literal CRIME to have your phone out while school is in session. (U pretty much cant have your phones out until u leave the building to go home). And if you're caught w a phone out its a suspension and ban from any school events for that semester.

i’m going to a school where phones are banned and it genuinely makes no sense to me. ESPECIALLY because i go to an alternative high school for kids who need accommodations/extra support. its bullshit
My school is banning, guess what? BATHROOM BREAKS IN CLASSES. you only have passing period, and if you’re late cuz your class is far and you had to use the bathroom? You’re counted absent for the class as you skipping. And if you get THREE of those, you go to in school suspension. I have some really bad issues and it’s horrible, I am having to switch to online school because of this. It’s dumb.
My school has that too we can’t use the bathroom during class but then when we’re switching periods/classes there’s admin people watching the bathrooms and ur not even allowed to you the bathrooms then and once lunch comes around you can use the bathroom for 10 mins b4 they lock it up again for the whole day so pretty much my school banned using the bathroom as a whole😭🙏🙏

7:42 my city actually just built a new elementary school that LOOKS like a prison. Like, teachers arent allowed to hang things up, the inside walls are barron, they dont do any fun decor for holidays. Its actually rlly upsetting to see
It's crazy to see people flipping out about these bans, when the schools in my country have: - STRICT uniforms (they control what you wear down to the COLOR OF YOUR HAIR TIE) - no phones allowed - no makeup - no jewelry _ no nail polish - no unapproved hairstyle (only braids for girls, and hair must remain above the ears for boys, no bangs for both genders) - no dyed hair, or piercings other than nostril and ear - so much more.. Plus they painted the building fucking grey with WHITE BARS ON THE WINDOWS. It's literally jail.
It's obviously country to country. Because in America it's based on freedom. Like what's the point in calling it that if I can't even use my phone when I have nothing to do. Also I feel bad for you. I'm sorry you have to go through that
Oh my god what country is it cause I know what country I'm not going to this summer Also that sounds absolutely depressing and I hope you are doing well
Because we didn't start school with these rules, they just keep setting more stupid rules. Why ban phones at school in a country that has the most school shootings? It makes no sense.
It depends more on the institution and laws. I'm my country, all public schools also have a strict uniform and length rule for example. But they CANNOT tell you that you can't have piercings or tattoos or colored hair: you can wear makeup that's not so colorful (cuz who tf goes to school with a Coachella makeup). They can not mess with your appearance cuz of the law of free expression. That's for publis schools, private schools do their own stuff and rules, but if you're in a private you or your parents had to agree to that before even putting you in
my school basically banned electronics but its so stupid cuz my school is 99% technology based and its a "work at your own pace" school, so taking away stuff like that basically just eliminates the entire point of my school

I hope your friend recovers no one should ever go through something as traumatic as a school shooting and I agree that phones should not be baned
you’re right but it’s so fucking ridiculous that it’s reached a point where we can’t ban phones in school because there are regularly shootings in which children need their phones send their possible last words to their parents. and that out of phones and guns, it’s the phones that are getting banned.

A problem with banning phones in schools is like if there is a school shooting, who's calling 911 if the the teachers don't find out immediately ?? Who's calling their parents to say goodbye to them in that event, who's calling 911 if there is a fire and a teacher refuses to belive a student and all the fire alarms are got locked up so the kids can't prank pull them ?

its crazy how much schools are genuinely ruining kids’ mental health, by claiming what theyre doing is better for their mental health. teenagehood is a rough time, and some people do use their phones as a distraction, which can drop their grades if they arent careful. but for teachers, its fine if you see someone using their phone and take it away to make them focus, but to have everyone lock their phones in a magnetic locking pouch until the end of the day instead of using that money to pay teachers, or provide school supplies is genuinely crazy.
I live in Portugal, so not allowing phones was already normal in my school (my school is a private school and it's terrible). But if they take away the mirrors, I'm so f-cked. I NEED THEM FOR MY CONTACTS- (Not the contacts on your phone, I'm talking about what I use to LITERALLY SEE)

absolutely NOBODY at my school (with the exception of me, because im emo) wears all black CONSISTENTLY. i am 100% sure they’re citing “mental health issues” because of the fact that the rate of mental health issues in the alternative community specifically are so high.

Real I was at school one day and we had our mile run and there was a house on fire with a huge cloud of black smoke a block down from our field
That's unfortunate, as a fellow Californian, I had a whole week off of school because of a fire nearby. You could even smell the smoke inside the house, I think it lasted for a couple days. I also had Homecoming this same week on Saturday, but it was most likely canceled.
School still doesn't care when I cut myself!!!
We have the ten min before and after class too. They say its because students would use it as extra pass time to skip parts of class somehow

edit: also listening to music is seriously the only thing that helps me focus. like, i cannot do any work in silence… so for me, this phone ban is affecting my grades NEGATIVELY. my anxiety goes thru the roof just in case something happens and i don’t have any access to it. it’s so anxiety inducing which leads to me not being able to focus!!!! you’re making my academic life worse and my mental health worrrssseeeeee

At my old high school they only allow 1-4 people out of the WHOLE SCHOOL to use the bathroom per class period

Just graduated from a public high school, here's some of the craziest shit:
-No doors on the bathrooms, many stall doors were broken so that wasn't fun
-You need a signed pass from a teacher to use the bathroom
-You only get 5 passes a month
-You needed a 504 plan or an IEP to get a quiet space for work, but the school often denied those to kids on free/reduced lunch programs
-The nurse played favorites, if she didn't like you she'd accuse you of skipping class
-Hats, phones, and swears on shirts were supposedly banned but nobody ever followed that tbh
-There was a fucking gas leak and they didn't let us leave so I called my dad and pretended he had an emergency
Oh also our school made NATIONAL NEWS because the athletic director faked a recording of the principal being racist. He is racist, but the recording was fake. Everyone hated him though so it's ok

Here are the rules at my school (might seem dumb but- im indian if that explains it?) :
1. Wearing your uniform is mandatory on all days (except for ur bday ofc), and if you fail to wear your uniform, like literally even forget your ID card or black shoes on most weekdays and white shoes on Saturday and Wednesday, you will be sent back home. (i have a shitass uniform btw ;-;)
2. Phones are prohibited.
3. You will be left to stand outside the locked school gate if you arrive later than 8:40.
4. There smth called a "morning diary" where you have to write down everything you studied the previous day, mind you, you have to fill this in EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. If you fail to do so, you will be punished (stand outside the classroom for the next 3 classes (120 mins), write down the portions for the next exam 20 times, etc..etc... Oh and you have to get the signature of your parent.
5. Very rarely, you will be allowed to wear something other than your uniform, like on festivals...Sleeveless dresses/shirts r not allowed, jeans are prohibited for girls (or literally anything that clings to your legs), pants must touch your ankle, casual shirts are not allowed, only traditional dresses are allowed, and the dress must reach the back of your knee atleast, HAS to cover your thighs.
6. Walking around the corridor during breaks (10 mins, 30 mins if lunch) is not allowed. The students must go to the restroom in line and return in line.
7. Yeah, there are literally no mirrors in the bathroom, they aren't maintained pretty well either, for girls atleast.
8. Hairstyles other than double braids are not allowed. (Single braids, ponytails, hair down...yeah none of that cute stuff is allowed)
9. 95% of attendance is required if you wanna write your board exams~
Yes i have the right to rant about this, im in the 9th grade and HAVE to follow every single one of these rules, and im sure i forgot some more stupid ones. + i have school from 8:20 AM to 5:00 PM so ;-;

my school is literally being threatened with shooting rn (mississippian here) and it was ALL OVER the school snapchat story. i went to school today and no one was allowed to stand outside in the courtyard where people normally stand. or outside in general. there were admin standing at every location and we all either had to be in our first class of the day or the cafeteria for breakfast. i can attest to not having a phone during this because i dont have service and they recently changed the wifi password so i have no form of communication until i get home unless i have a hotspot. thats fucking terrifying as is. but WILLINGLY taking a kids phone who is in this situation because "theyre gonna get distracted in class" is actually so dumb it may be bringing my iq closer to room temperature. and also! as someone who is mentally ill enough to have literally been sent to a facility in april (3rd times the charm (ugh)) and put under police investigation because "i threatened the school" (was in a bad mental place that ended with me making poor "jokes" that were just manifestations of frustration) this is absolutely stupid as fuck lol. wearing black does not have shit to do with it. black is a comfortable color because it goes with every other color imaginable, its warm in the winter, it hides the parts of my body i dislike (hashtag transgender or whatever), its comfortable, its common, its easy to hide stains and holes and whatever because im broke asf and wear like 5 shirts maximum. i cannot BEGIN to comprehend where these people get these ideas that doing all of this backwards junk is going to help anything. its mind-boggling. i had to get a hold of my therapist on friday and i was having a whole existential crisis about becoming a part of society and everything thats wrong with the world right now and she said "its not about you though. yeah it sucks but theres nothing you can do about it, at the very least not right now, and its not affecting you, so you need to focus on yourself right now," but that doesnt bring into consideration that its shit like THIS that absolutely DOES leave an effect on me. school admins will wonder why teen suicide rates are so high, why the mental health crisis numbers have gone up, why kids are more prone to violence, why theyre not well behaved. its because you dont treat your students and even the teachers at times like they have ANY SENSE OF INTELLIGENCE. theres no respect on their end. theres not an OUNCE of self reflection and all they can pin the blame on is the victim, which is INSANELY ironic with how the see something say something shit arises. ugh. i could go on about this for fucking EVER but this is already wayyy too long so. yhegjihrijkgsga i hope they get a grip

That's horrid
i have selective mutism and i use my phone as a communication device/aac device. sometimes teachers and other students give me trouble snd try to take it from me even though they know i have an exception to have it 😞
I am so glad he talked about it!

- no sneakers, boots, winter shoes, etc. basically any shoe that isn't these really uncomfortable mary jane type shoes.

We were allowed makeup but only natural but I’m pretty sure they allow false eyelashes. And if it gets hot in spring sometimes we couldn’t even take the blazer off.
School bans clothes, i never heard that before... oh wait, i live in the UK :c
Same uniform for everyone, tie length needs to be right, shirt tucked in, blazers on always (sometimes ur alowed off if its a health hazard or a teachers nice on a hot day), girls have to have skirt lengths exatly knee hight or below but not too below (it sounds alright but they get detentions if its kinda tiny bit too short from the teachers point of veiw), hair has to be strict, black socks, school shoes (if its branded school shoes then its not allowed), if black socks have a tiny bit white its wrong (sometimes they get you to take your shoe off EVEN THO ITS A TINY SYMBOL THAT CANT EVEN BE SEEN WITHOUT TAKING THE SHOE OFF, girls have to have extremely natural looking make up, faces need to be shaved completely and not too short socks.

You must live a good life in elementary School in high school is my school rules are so stupid

1. No phones (only can have them during passing periods, when your teacher says you can, lunch/study hall (for freshmen/sophomores), and advisory. Which isn’t too bad imo)
2. You have to get a written pass to go to the bathroom (full name, time, date, teacher signature)
3. You can’t have more than 4 tardies the entire semester or you get detention
4. If you are late to school more than 4 times a year you will suffer consequences
5. You cannot leave school early without a doctors note after 5 times (this is the entire school year)
6. You now cannot switch your lunch for any reason (ex you want to switch from 5a to 5b because you have no friends in 5a)
7. If we are in a REAL lockdown you are not allowed to get your phone from the the number slots (so you can’t text your parents/loved ones) or get your phone if there’s a fire! Or you will get written up

the phone ban is useless. parents sometimes want their children to be able to have their phones to keep them updated. lots of parents worry, especially in america with the amount of god damn gun violence. the first month of school, there were bomb threats, THREE DAYS IN A ROW. having a phone with a child can make them feel safer. not even just shootings, students can have mental issues during class and need to be picked up during class. on the first month of school, i was so close to a panic attack in first period because of some work i had to do(it seems dramatic but i had to interview someone and write about it which can be incredibly scary and stressful) .even if there weren’t shootings, bombings, etc, the phone ban would still be useless. let’s be real, who would actually be okay with it. students could act like they don’t have a phone, keeping it in a bag or pocket. teachers can’t go through your personal items unless they have proof it’s breaking a law.

*The kids with IBS desperately typing into the timed bathroom tablet while they're doubled over in pain, panicking, not knowing how long their bathroom break will truly take* BRO
I graduated last year and thank god. My school was slowly and slowly becoming more and more dystopian, especially during my senior year things went off the walls. I can only imagine it’s gotten worse this year. Some of my favorites throughout my years included-
- This wasn’t the school specifically it’s was more a county thing so I don’t blame my school fully for this BUT the nurses weren’t allowed to give out any medication like basic Tylenol unless parents sent out things to allow it.

@@jee0de it’s actually hell like I’m not allowed to use the bathroom like I have to wait til after school (8 hours) to change my pad💀
@@idiashrouds1fan i was once on my period and tje teacher didnt let me go until the end of the day (6th hour) istg i have beef witj ALL these teachers
7:42 my city actually just built a new elementary school that LOOKS like a prison. Like, teachers arent allowed to hang things up, the inside walls are barron, they dont do any fun decor for holidays. Its actually rlly upsetting to see
So it's just a prison for literal children?
That’s honestly so sad. And they wonder why kids fucking hate school
@peachpopsicle4090 yea basically :(
@@TrippySnakeBalls That's incredibly depressing
Rly we had fun teachers and days and now it like prison wow that not good
Yeah my school has the smart pass and it's so annoying because it gives us a 4 minute bathroom break.
It's crazy to see people flipping out about these bans, when the schools in my country have:
- STRICT uniforms (they control what you wear down to the COLOR OF YOUR HAIR TIE)
- no phones allowed
- no makeup
- no jewelry
_ no nail polish
- no unapproved hairstyle (only braids for girls, and hair must remain above the ears for boys, no bangs for both genders)
- no dyed hair, or piercings other than nostril and ear
- so much more..
I'm sorry you have to go through that
Oh my god what country is it cause I know what country I'm not going to this summer
Also that sounds absolutely depressing and I hope you are doing well
sounds like north korea but without becoming a slave damn
My old school banned; AirPods, chargers, bra straps, hoods, hats, sun glasses, THE FUCKING BATHROOM, and pda (They think bra straps are scandalous.)
Omg like the bathroom especially when go to a another like class if u ask for a bathroom break teachers always say "well u had enough time in between periods "like bro if everyone has to got to the bathroom only in between periods then not everyone can go
@@kkji188 THIS!! for me my school banned bathrooms for Mabye 1 month. All because some kid shit in the urial and they got mad. I bled tru my pants and HAD to wait for 45 mins to use the bathroom during passing then I was late( passing is like 4 mins ) and no one believed me. The education system is fr broken.
THATS INSANE
STRAIGHT UP 1984 TYPE SHIT
BRO LIKE WHAT IS UP WITH SCHOOLS AND BRA STRAPS 😭😭😭
Coming from a Portland middle school there are lots of kids that can’t be bothered to make outfits and just wear black leggings and a black graphic tees, plus there’s a bunch of emos.
The worst bans in my school are:
No mirrors in the toilets
Open toilets that are mixed (the cubicles have doors but it’s just a massive open space in the corridor where the sinks are)
No clocks in classrooms
No tags on airforces
No phones
No jewerly (basic but still rubbish)
No going inside the buildings at break
No coats inside
No socks over tights
No fake nails (which I get but not even short ones 😭)
Can’t have coloured hair (like bich how does it affect you?)
Can’t go to the toilet in lessons
Your not allowed to use the bathrooms the are rooms and have privacy which also have girls and boys assigned rooms, only the exposed ones? (What )
Not allowed to use a hoodie as a jumper
Not allowed to draw on your skin
have to have your shirt tucked into your trousers/skirt
Some bad stories about the rules:
ONE TIME I DREW HIGH UP MY THIGH RIGHT LIKE, RIGHT UP THERE AND THIS OLD MAN TEACHER CALLED ME OUT ? LIKE WHYCG ARE YOU LOOKING AT MY THIGHS
Also first day back got my jewellery taken off me and I still haven’t got it back ☺️ fuck you mrs :)
Rules in my school:
No phones, AT ALL
No mixing with other year groups
No normal clothes (uniform, like every school im my country, 2 hour detention if not)
Tuck shirt in (30 minute detention if not)
No jewerly (1 hour detention + taken off you)
No hats (1 hour detention)
No shorts (1 hour detention)
No shades/sunglasses (1 hour detention)
No equipment given out (1 hour detention if ANY equipment is missing)
Bring in NOTHING from home, apart from stationary (1 hour detention + item taken off you)
No hoodies (1 hour detention)
No fake nails (30 minute detention)
No informal greetings or thanks such as hi, bro or thanks (30 minute detention)
Can only go to toilet at break times (unless you have a medical note)
Long socks in PE (knee high)
No logos on shoes, AT ALL (1 hour detention)
No talking unless told to (correction)
No writing on skin (correction)
Must put your hand up to talk to the teacher at all (correction)
Must refer to teachers with their surnames (correction)
Extra fact: my school literally prides itself on being strict 💀
no clocks in classroom ??? nah that's horrible if you don't know the hour , if you are late you can't even know the time because you can't have your phone ( unless their is clocks outside of classroom )
