I never would have imagined that there was an niche community that knows so much about nylon ripstop. When I started designing garments made of this versatile fabric it was because I had worn my vintage "hunting liner pants" (as my dad called them) to the point they were disintegrating from frequent wearing after moving to northern WI (near the UP border).... So in 2007 I made my first pair of quilted pants and a bomber jacket out of nylon ripstop that I found in the clearance section of Joann Fabrics. There was alot of puckering in my first set, and although the fabric was challenging, my first garment was functional enough to wear. I don't have extensive knowledge of the technical terms for designing, drafting, or sewing, so I hesitate to try to market the garments that I've nearly perfected. I appreciate the inspiration of this podcast because it lets me know that there is a community of others who are successful in their small businesses of utilizing this incredible fabric.
