For your information, Morocco was the first country to recognize America in 1777 and America was the first country to recognize the Sahara as Moroccan territory.
Yes, I felt safe in the disputed region. However, it's important to note that warning travellers about safety concerns in the region is not to fearmonger, but to address the fact that Western tourists whose nations have put Western Sahara under a travel advisory are NOT INSURED during their time in the region. In the rest of Morocco, I am insured for up to $2 Million USD in costs, but this insurance became void when I entered the Western Sahara disputed territory, as Canadians are not insured to travel to Level 3 or 4 destinations. The majority of Western Sahara is listed as Level 3 - AVOID NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL, with the Guergarat border area listed as level 4 - AVOID ALL TRAVEL. Even though you and I know that the risk is small, it's important for me to note this to travellers. Let's say a woman was pregnant, and goes into early labour - or someone slips, and cracks their ankle. All of the costs for those things would be borne by the patient, and they could lose their assets as their insurance would not cover them (especially if a medical flight was necessary). Furthermore, our government will NOT assist us if we enter this area. If I were to be arrested or detained, by Embassy would turn a blind eye (or help me, but levy a huge fine), as I violated their travel warning. I hope that makes sense. You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect it. But, if you don't care about the United Nations, why does Morocco remain a member? Perhaps it should remove itself, out of protest? Perhaps you need them to advocate for claims over Ceuta & Melilla? Also, if you are angry that tourists like myself remain neutral and do not support Morocco OR the SADR's claims, perhaps you need to implement a strict visa regime that only allows countries who formally recognize Morocco's claims? I suspect this won't happen though, as your country relies heavily on international tourism (more than most). Be careful how xenophobic you become in your quest for isolationism.
@@DrifterDave Morocco's membership in the United Nations is not about blind adherence but rather about engaging with the international community to defend its interests, including its stance on the Western Sahara issue. Leaving the UN would not serve Morocco’s objectives; it would remove a key platform for advocating its perspective on global matters, including long-standing issues like Ceuta and Melilla. Regarding neutrality, Morocco does not expect tourists to take sides in political disputes. The frustration you might sense stems from the way the issue is often framed internationally, sometimes without a full understanding of the historical and political context. Tourists are always welcome, regardless of their opinions, as long as respect for local sentiments and sovereignty is maintained. As for visa restrictions, implementing a strict regime based on recognition of territorial claims would undermine Morocco’s openness and its desire to build constructive relationships with nations worldwide, even those with differing stances. Tourism is a bridge for cultural exchange, not a battleground for political differences. Advocating for sovereignty and territorial integrity does not equate to xenophobia or isolationism. Morocco remains proud of its rich heritage and deeply values its global connections. Discussions like this are essential to fostering mutual understanding, and I appreciate your willingness to engage in dialogue on such a sensitive topic.
It is a disputed territory as defined by the United Nations under international law, which is why all maps of the world show Morocco in two colours, including Google Maps. I'm a UA-camr & this isn't a political channel, and I don't have a strong opinion - Morocco is across the ocean from me, and I don't think about the country unless I'm visiting there. If you want the UN to change their stance, write to them. Cheers 🙏 www.google.com/maps/place/Western+Sahara/@23.9934922,-18.362126,6z/ www.un.org/dppa/decolonization/en/nsgt/western-sahara en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_status_of_Western_Sahara

Yes, it is a beautiful city and appears to be growing rapidly - I witnessed many development projects all around the city. Morocco has done well with modernizing it and developing its economy.
Regardless of who's right or wrong.. The people of this region are better off than those living in neighbouring countries in terms of quality of life...
I'd tend to agree with you on this, as Morocco's economy is strong and its territory enjoys a standard of living much better than any other country in North or West Africa. Tunisia would be a close second, I'd say.

It would be a good idea to make a comparative video of the city of Layoune during the Spanish colonial times before 1975 and then when Morocco took control of its territorial Sahara and its modernization.
It would definitely be interesting to see the development over time! I saw some of the photos of Laayoune under Spanish control while visiting the Cathedral (they have a small photo gallery) and it definitely wasn't very developed back then. Morocco has poured millions of dollars into building and developing the city, and it is evident throughout the place 👏
do you know that it was Morocco which registered the Sahara at the UN as a territory to be decolonized, it was in 1963, to summarize Algeria supports and hosts the Polisario front because it wants to occupy Morocco so that they can not claim another Sahara, called Eastern, which was taken away by France to attach it to French Algeria. It's a whole story and its consequences on the region that you should have known from its beginnings, everything beforehand.
I'm not getting involved - it's a contested region for a reason, because both sides have their motives for wanting to control the land. I'm just passing through & enjoying the scenery 😎
If it was a disputed area, there would be no American or European investments in it. So can international companies be in a disputed area? Certainly not. So this confirms that the area is under Moroccan sovereignty and the dispute only exists on paper.
With all due respect, this is flawed logic and not true. Western countries readily invest in disputed regions - consider the Basque country and Catalonia in Spain, Palestine, the entire nation of Kosovo, and Ceuta & Melilla. You seem to take the word "disputed" as some sort of slur, but the facts prevail - Morocco claims Western Sahara as theirs, and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic also claims it as theirs. Thus, there is an ongoing dispute, which is why Guergarat was attacked with rockets. To say no one is disputing is just standing like an ostrich with its head in the sand.
@DrifterDave These are just issues that can be considered. While the Sahara issue has no history or anything, it is just an organization that Algeria created to have access to the Atlantic Ocean. This is what I wanted to say. Have a nice stay in Morocco.
Thank you for your kind words 🙏 You do not need to convince me about it not being "disputed". If the United Nations says it's disputed, they are the voice of our world order. We have established international laws, and in this case, the processes must be completed in order for Morocco's claim to be affirmed. One of these processes would be a referendum to ask the Sahrawi if they wish to be part of Morocco. Get enough votes, and the issue is settled internationally. Though, I know how frustrating it must be as a Moroccan to have the United Nations remain neutral for the past 49 years.
Le sahara occidentale est dans le sud du Maroc l administration est marocaine et la population également donc contestée ou non c'est une partie intégrante du Maroc
Yes, Western Sahara is de facto Moroccan territory and the Moroccan kingdom has done well with developing the region and ensuring security, despite its contested status.
It is contested by the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) who have claimed it as theirs. Until they release this claim or the UN votes otherwise, it will be viewed as "disputed" by the very definition of the term.
Definitely a nice change of pace to see religious tolerance in a majority-Muslim country! Morocco is definitely a leader of democracy and human rights in the region. I'm not sure what the demographics of Laayoune are, but I believe there are many Sahrawis living in the city (but only those who are not part of the independence movement - the SADR-supporters have been pushed into Algeria).

As a Moroccan Sahrawi myself. I can tell you, we live in a tyranical absolute monarchy, denying the right to self determination for the Sahrawi people who are empoverished in favor of the colons which went to settle there and ethnically replace the region, in complete violation of the ICJ and UN, Morocco denies us the right to a referendum, freedom of press, freedom of assembly, freedom of association. for the sake of supposed neutrality, I hope, as you have visited certain cities in Morocco and having been able to make videos for us, that you will also visit Algeria and the Tindouf camps with, of course, explanatory videos
I would love to eventually visit Algeria and explore the country, but the visa is a difficult one to obtain, and I don't think I'd be safe as a Westerner going to places like Tindouf, as terrorism and kidnappings are a problem in the south of Algeria. Interesting idea, though.
Forgive me, I don't speak French - are you saying you don't care whether you're under Moroccan or SADR control? You have no preference? Please clarify!
They are actually quite pleasant and hospitable as a people group, but obviously, they cannot handle civil political discourse, so it would be best to never discuss politics during your visit.

Il est au Sahara, une nation sans etat.

That s a normal moroccan city as any other city from Tangier to Mauritania border.
I enjoyed my visit to Laayoune, and looking forward to exploring more of the Sahara as I make my way south to Mauritania!

Historiquement c’est un territoire marocain la France le sait et a toutes les preuves
Perhaps France should be an integral partner in brokering a peace treaty between Morocco and SADR and settling the dispute once and for all?
Wonderful Morocco
Yes! Beautiful country!
If you said disputed territory ask yourself who was ruling this territory before the Spanish occupation who was the ruler or the president
Cheers 🙏

Ça ne ressemble pas seulement à une ville marocaine, c'est certainement une ville marocaine conçu et bâtie à 95% par le Maroc alors qu'elle n'était qu'une base militaire et un comptoir espagnol en 1974.

Welcome to morocco
Thank you, brother 🙏
It would be a good idea to make a comparative video of the city of Layoune during the Spanish colonial times before 1975 and then when Morocco took control of its territorial Sahara and its modernization.
It would definitely be interesting to see the development over time! I saw some of the photos of Laayoune under Spanish control while visiting the Cathedral (they have a small photo gallery) and it definitely wasn't very developed back then. Morocco has poured millions of dollars into building and developing the city, and it is evident throughout the place 👏
Will you go to Dakhla?
Yes! The video will come out in about a week - though I didn't get to kiteboard (maybe next time) 🇲🇦
@DrifterDave Nice. I like this city and his beautiful coastline

Viva kingdom of Morocco.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Morocco is a beautiful country! I have enjoyed all of my visits. It is the most tourist-friendly country in North Africa.
do you know that it was Morocco which registered the Sahara at the UN as a territory to be decolonized, it was in 1963, to summarize Algeria supports and hosts the Polisario front because it wants to occupy Morocco so that they can not claim another Sahara, called Eastern, which was taken away by France to attach it to French Algeria.
Contested by who ?
The Sahara was Morrocan and will be untel the end
It is contested by the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) who have claimed it as theirs. Until they release this claim or the UN votes otherwise, it will be viewed as "disputed" by the very definition of the term.
🇲🇦😎
I love Morocco! One of my favourite countries 🇲🇦
Very pleasantly surprised to see an active Catholic Church there, would you say that this city is mostly ethnic Sahrawi?

And they attempt ethnic cleansing, endoctrinate us with their propaganda, and a whole lot of other terrible things. Sadly. Without counting the horrendous war crimes they commited during the war, mass expulsion, napalm, massacres ect...

I agree - I also don't know why they try to convince me. I didn't decide that it's contested, the United Nations did - it's not like I created the dispute. They somehow perceive that I am against them (confirmation bias) - I don't take it to heart or become offended. I'm just here to share the scenery of this beautiful part of Africa!
The polisario front are in algeria since 1975 so dont worry about your safety, half of polisario are algerian citizen, they use sahraoui people because they want an exit to the atlantic ocean..., before the spain colonism they were never a thing called western sahara, but there s planty of maps shows how bigg Morocco was. i hope u meet some moroccans there to speak about the situation. Hello
Hello! Welcome 😎
for the sake of supposed neutrality, I hope, as you have visited certain cities in Morocco and having been able to make videos for us, that you will also visit Algeria and the Tindouf camps with, of course, explanatory videos
I would love to eventually visit Algeria and explore the country, but the visa is a difficult one to obtain, and I don't think I'd be safe as a Westerner going to places like Tindouf, as terrorism and kidnappings are a problem in the south of Algeria. Interesting idea, though.
