THAAD Demonstration/Validation Flight 3, 1995

This video shows the 3rd demonstration/validation test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, which took place on 13 October 1995 at White Sands Missile Range. The corkscrew maneuver seen in the video is a planned part of the interceptor's flight path.
THAAD is intended to provide defense against high altitude aerial threats, specifically ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of flight. Its engagement layer is higher than that of the Patriot air defense system and lower than the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system.
