Very clever love it, you could make a transition out of it.. on the last clip you walk into frame and start speaking making it seem like you teleported in a way.
would love to see something like this done as an infinite loop so that it goes back to the original shot and maybe have it so that in each different zoom length there's a new subject
Good idea. You could also reverse this, zoom in with final frames showing the subject, but holding a photo/iPad/mirror showing the original zoomed out image. Then continue zooming in again revealing the different subject, as you suggested. The "photo" the subject is holding could even be from an entirely different location: desert scene, underwater, tiny blue dot earth down to a drone zoom, etc.
Cool idea! I think I saw somebody doing something similar, but instead of stitching shots, using PS's generative fill to create the extra space that's being zoomed into. Worked out surprisingly well. Al though you get static images instead of moving frames of course
Really cool effect! I have a suggestion when aligning multiple layers like this: instead of making the upper layer semi transparent, set it to Difference blend mode. When the images are closely aligned, the overlaid image will turn mostly black. Areas of the image that are not aligned (i.e, "Different") will highlight in a bright color. Very foolproof way to quickly align layers. Edit: I see someone else already suggested this 😅
@@-Viceroy- It's not 4k when 90% of pixels are intra frame guesses, based on a compression algorithm, or inter frame interpolations. None of what you see onscreen is even real. It's a cartoon, drawn by a computer, to save storage space. And the sensor is garbage. And the lens......you couldn't even buy a decent lens for the price of a P900 and a P1000 combined. They're both toys. Even for shooting stll photographs. But for actual video, they don't even qualify as toys
@@ashscott6068 ok elitist, would love to see what you can make with your super uber camera lol. Bet you buy lumix for extra price because of a Leica sticker. There's people out there with a phone that would make your stuff look pathetic, please, humble up a little
Super well-put and informative video. I can see so many cool uses for this technique and I'll definitely use it in whatever project I might have in the future.
Wow. I'm glad I don't use final cut. Great video! A lot of this tutorial will translate to Resolve. Final cut makes things so complicated. So many clicks for each step.
i want to see it been done in resolve because he lost me when he started zooming like how can you do it when compound clip is a timeline resolution you need to set like 12k timeline to do this ?
@@bazejukojko5160 Yeah I'm also trying to translate to premiere, won't be able to compound clip or 'nest' clips together because of timeline quality. I think it will have to be kept on seperate layers and then to do the zoom... it's a headache
Excellent video, thanks Ryan! One thing I wonder is why do you make a compound clip every time you put a clip on top of the other instead of doing them all and then making one single compoind clip…?
Hey! Great tutorial man, could you make one for Premiere Pro? Or could you give me a tip please, because i do it with “nesting” as its the same as “compounding” a clip in PR, but when I do the zoom animation it scales down the quality of the first footage, u cant see it, its pixeled. How could u fix it? Thanks
Most interesting. Thank you. Do you need to do this on a day when the day is fairly cloudy because various Sun movements could make this more difficult or less convincing?
I also would like to know. I tried this in Davinci Resolve practicing the effect but my first shot with a moving person becomes pretty lousy in the end. How did you keep the resolution?
Scaling and alignment tip: put the top layer in difference mode. When you are aligned nearly all the image turns black with some white outlines.
Smart!
yes, I use it all the time for matching drone shots to transition to night 😂
I learned that tip from somewhere for image editing in Photoshop, works a treat
yo, that is crazy smart. Thank's for the tip!
Adding to the voices saying thanks for spreading some knowledge :) this will be so handy

working on a video doing that for every zoom length the subject will appear in each one

Nikon P900: Why are you taking my job?
How cute. It's 4K era now.
Regards. Nikon P1000
As a super zoom camera owner, this looks stupid and too much trouble for a single shot.
@@-Viceroy-but p1000 has crappy quality for a video. This extra work is worh it

The sudden torso movement just when it was about to become too small to see is what really sells it.
While recreating your shot I realised we both might have the same Tamron f2.8 28-75 lens. Such cool
you are the best editor on FCPX 🔥

Thank you! Cheers!

I've heard of focus stacking. Video stacking? Oh the posibilities. Thank you, I didn't know this was possible.

Two years ago i really need to understand to edit the seemless zoom in Hollywood movie i saw... This is really easy to understand... I love it!
Limitless series vibes
This is super neat. Wasn't sure how you were going to achieve this effect. Super simple!
Another great tutorial. thank you!!!
Thanks
Genius level effect here. Thanks!
Top notch visual effect!
That’s awesome

Thanks again!

always insane videos thanks
Appreciate it!
Wicked video! Thank you. You’ve given me some ideas
great little tutorial! And it can easily be adapted to other NLEs too
This one was sooooo sick dude
that’s really cool! Nicely done
Great effect!
Thanks!
Very sick
An excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice. Run the final clip it in reverse, that would be really cool...
This is super creative and rad
You are a frickin genius.
this is very good, good job, ryan!
this is the Limitless effect from that movie from like 10 years ago....still dope tho!
I'm not a FCP user, but I've been wondering how to do those long range zooms. Thanks for sharing!
Could you show how this could be done in premiere pro?
This brings back Andrew Kramer vibes. IYKYK
haha that's wild!!
Excellent video, thanks Ryan! One thing I wonder is why do you make a compound clip every time you put a clip on top of the other instead of doing them all and then making one single compoind clip…?
Because there is a limit to the zoom out you can do. Using compound clips resets that limit each time so you can zoom in further
@@RyanNangle oooh! I see! hank you so much fo taking the time to reply! Much appreciated!!

same thing with davinci resolve when using compund clips, or I'm using them wrong😐
Good stuff but thank God for drones
Super assumed you did it with AI generative fill. Had a similar idea recently, don't know why I didn't think of this
Most interesting. Thank you. Do you need to do this on a day when the day is fairly cloudy because various Sun movements could make this more difficult or less convincing?
I thought you just used Nikon COOLPIX P1000 😂😂

Who on earth figures this stuff out. its pretty amazing when you think about it.
Crazy👍🏾
Very nice. Can’t imagine I’ll ever use it, however that was great - so I’m commenting for the algorithm :)
This is genius
Pretty much a reverse of the Limitless zoom technique from many years ago? Definitely a usable way to add some movement and visual interest.
Reminds me of looking at one of those videos of a fractal zooming in.
is this pretty much what they did for those zoomy shots in the movie Limitless?
Genius.
Whaaaat 🤯
Do you have a tutorial on how to edit to music? I’m somewhat of a newb at this stuff. Love all your content and learning so much!
Not yet!
Great effect thank you for sharing !!
Nice great tutorial
Thank you!
I don't know that program, but compound clip seems to be a big deal😮
Can you use the same style but for zooming in instead of zooming out? What would you do differently?
GENIUS
I thought you did generative fill. good job doing it for real
on premiere, when you scale down a video and zoom in, the first video has a shitty resolution
any tips?
I also would like to know. I tried this in Davinci Resolve practicing the effect but my first shot with a moving person becomes pretty lousy in the end. How did you keep the resolution?
@@detmarleertouwer did get a way? i am also trying. but no luck.
Dang bro.. This is so sick, that you inspired me to pick my a$$ up and try this, thanks!

How come you use the FCPX timeline like that? Aren't you defeating the whole point by not using the magnetic timeline?
Magnetic timeline is not relevant to this as there are no vertical cuts.
I ask because I don't know. Are you the king?
😂 definitely not 🙌
very creative 👍
This is actually very similar to the technique used for the crazy in-and-out-zooms in 300 and Sherlock Holmes
Great!
Nice trick...
Does compounding a clip compress the video image quality?
If not, that’s bloody amazing!
No it’s the same resolution
That's dope
Things I remember from the video:
Turn it into a New Compound Clip
You’re amazing
Use a super zoom camera.
No need for editing tricks.
Practical effect 😎👍
would I be able to do this if there were people walking around in the shot?
brilliantly
Music 🤩🤩👌👌💥💥
creative
I wonder because I made a short film with a lot of zooming transitions, and this is really good and I thought is this accurate to premiere Pro almost?
Super nice❤❤❤
