I bought a Julien French easel back in 2002 - still going strong. That guy should spend the extra cash on a Julien...buying poorly made one after poorly made one cost's more in the long run.

Amanda! This is a great review--I happened upon it when I was researching pochade boxes.

Great reviews...and well presented. I'm curious about your tripod adapter. What is the brand and where did you get it? I tried searching it on amazon but couldn't find one that looks like yours.
Also I, too, used the Guerilla 9 x 12 and loved it but it does get heavy if walking around as well as positioning on the tripod. But I had discovered that you can buy canvas holder adapters of different sizes to fit into the 9 x 12 box. There's 8x10, 6x8 and even 5x7 ones.

I bought it at Glazer's Camera in Seattle, Washington, years ago. I can't remember the brand, but if you go to a camera store that sells equipment to professional photographs, they'll take care of you. If you don't have one close by, perhaps calling one in a big city ...

I'm guessing it's a Manfrotto or Bogen. I don't have that tripod with me, so I can't check. Sorry about that.

Hello, can you please tell me what type of brushes are those and their size at 3:01 and where to buy that metal can or something similar(what do you call it) that can be hung at 3:03 on the right side?

Hi there, yes, those are Da Vinci black sable brushes that I bought at Blick Art Materials. The can is a solvent can, for rinsing brushes, also available at Blick or any other art-supply store that sells oil-painting supplies. The lid clamps shut and has a gasket, which keeps the solvent from leaking. I use those two items-Da Vinci brushes and a solvent can-every time I paint.

Thank you for the quick reply, but can you tell me their size as well please?

Some French easels are still made quite well while others fall far short in quality. MABEF manufactures an excellent version based on the original French easel by Jullian. They also make a lighter model, the 1/2 box size with a folding palette. I have a 1/2 box Jullian field easel, made in France, that is 15 years old and it works very well to this day. However, several years ago Jullian moved its factory to China and the quality is now below par. ( Please note: China builds some wonderful products, just not easels.)
