    For those who live in Australia or New Zealand; there was a region 4 DVD set of the 5 movies released in those countries. In the US, the only individual DVD release of the movies only includes 2 out of the 5 movies. It was available by itself, and in the 'Hercules Action Pack' box set.

    Definitely still love and prefer the Herc and Xena Anchor Bay sets for their presentation, packaging, sound and picture quality and all the great commentaries and extras and obviously having the TV movies is a must!

      I doubt it will happen. Xena would be more likely, but still doubtful. Thankfully these Anchor Bay DVD sets look just fine.

    Hercules is available to watch on Tubi right now. I've been re-living my childhood! The show was best during the movies & first couple seasons. Hercules drank ale, was eager to fight and even killed his enemies. The danger felt real. After season 1 of the show, they made it more "kid friendly" and mentioned that Hercules didn't drink and tried to avoid violence.

    Comic Book Guy correction: Actually, Season 2 was the longest season with 24 episodes, paralleling Xena's first season of 24 episodes. The Season 3 Anchor Bay box set is probably slightly bigger because more care and special features went into it, probably allowing fewer episodes on more discs in order to keep the quality at an optimum level.
    Though, you'd technically be correct in that "Season 3" is the longest season if you consider the mini-series as the first season.

    Which one has lots of audio commentaries?
    They would be a good reason to buy

      All of the Anchor Bay releases have multiple audio commentaries, video commentaries, and behind-the-scenes featurettes.

    22 episodes over 8 DVDs, or 22 episodes on 5 DVDs? The 5 DVD set will have heavy compression and lower bitrate.

      Exactly. The older Anchor Bay sets are better in both visual and audio presentation.

    I have never watched this or Xena, although in later years I did see the odd episode, in the UK they never had fixed scheduling and I don't think they ever actually showed all the seasons on the regular 4 channels that we used to have back in the day. I hope to get round to watching them at some point. However, you may be interested to know that in the region 2 box set release there is the following statement: The DVD release includes a few very short sections that were never shown on English-language TV. As a result, during season 1, in the episode Ring of Fire, the sound will briefly switch to German, since the scene was cut out before being shown on TV in the UK and US. Apart from these very brief outtakes, the entire series can be watched in English.
    There is also a region 2 box set of just the five films.
    Much like yourself I am very much a sci-fi fan. But I also like fantasy and we are about to enter a whole new age of fantasy tv shows with the new lord of the rings series and the wheel of time on Amazon, Witcher S2 on Netflix as well as the Conan show they are developing, House of the Dragon on HBO, Willow on Disney plus and there will doubtless be others in the pipeline. Do you have any interest in the upcoming fantasy shows?

    Did you also got the coins that were included for each season in the Anchor Bay release? There were 6 Hercules special coins that were included in the Anchor Bay release.

    This is one of my favorite shows of all time obviously the Anchor Bay release is the best because of all the features I've been procrastinating on buying it for so long. I have about two seasons collected. Do the visuals look better on the newer release than the Anchor Bay one or are they pretty much the same?

    • @StefanHomberger
      @StefanHomberger  Рік тому +2

      Worse. It's not a huge difference, but visually the older releases look slightly better (better color-grading).
      It's less noticeable on a CRT, but on our HD-TV the newer releases look more pixelated than the older ones (almost like the sharpness is too high on the newer ones).
