It was only three weeks ago (as of this comment posting) that he finally buckled down and reviewed "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie," and even then, he needed to call in the help of PhantomStrider for help with context.

Mr. Enter justified his Spongebob reviewing by saying he made numerous reviews of Family Guy at the same time, but Family Guy is for immature adults, and not anywhere near arthouse.
I think what really makes this work as a critic roasting archetype - and makes it considerably more flattering & humble than malicious & mean-spirited - is that Bubble Bass IS an overly critical and mean-spirited character, so it makes sense for him to be so openly vicious and savage on the internet where he feels safer to make his opinions known. I mean, it could be posited his job in his debut episode of Spongebob was as a food critic as he was able to hammer out technical terms for a burger that sounds like total gibberish and was overly critical of the food he received, though it could also be seen that he was only doing that because he and Spongebob have a bit of a history. I mean, critics do, in their own way, wind up - be it intentionally or inadvertently - generating more traffic towards various forms of entertainment just by being that word of mouth, and I feel the showrunners definitely understand that and are more having fun with the critics more than at their expense, so I view this more as their tribute to critics, if nothing else. I mean Patrick took the critical teardown from Bubble Bass in great stride, thanking him for it all, so it definitely shows a great degree of humility and I can respect that. It felt less like a dagger to the heart and more like a playful punch on the shoulder from a good friend, ya know? ;)
I can’t get over how funny this one was when I first watched it a couple days ago. Recently, The Patrick Show has really come around lately since it’s shift to becoming board-driven. The season 2 opener episode (which just aired today) was a really fun meta episode about tv show merchandise promotion that ends with genuinely kinda poetic message about the purpose of tv programming and what it means to people. I think the show is worth a watch just for that.
There's an ongoing theory that the 'Bubble Bass' mom' segment was a reference to one of Chris-Chan's videos, namely the one where his father walks in and starts berating both him and his audience. [They even included the 'dirty crapped briefs' with that skidmark joke.] While he wasn't a part of the mainstream commentary community, he was still infamous for being an extremely harsh critic of kids franchises like My Little Pony and Sonic the Hedgehog. [Heck, the Sonic Boom cartoon even made a joke about one of his critiques once.]
The "sponsored" segment could also reference Chris Who inserted "ads" to his comics and videos because he somehow taught all media should have them as he always saw them contain ads

It would have been more interesting if Bubble Bass had been a drama channel, and pulled up footage of Patrick's most hated moments from the previous show. It's like the writers poking fun at UA-camrs, while also showing the ability to laugh at themselves. Missed opportunity in my book. Speaking of books, have you heard about the book "Behind Closed Doors"? It's a piece of SpongeBob lost media. It's a collection of images drawn by the crew, taking out their frustrations at work by drawing crude, rude and lewd images of the characters. LSuperSonicQ did a great video on it.
I'm honestly pretty split on this whole episode. While they did potray the internet reviewers fairly faithfully and it's pretty funny in some places, i kinda find media that makes fun of their critics to be a rather low hanging fruit. Because in most cases, it makes the people who make that piece of media rather ignorant, but seeing how most online critics took it well, i guess it's fine.

3:36 That's honestly the perfect way to describe The Patrick Star Show: it's SpongeBob mixed with Uncle Grandpa. As someone who actually enjoyed UG, this spinoff was right up my alley. However, I will admit that it's an acquired taste. Like you said, it's not a show that everyone is guaranteed to like. Even so, I think I might be enjoying it more than the current season of the main series. It's not amazing or anything, but I love how unapologetically weird it is.
I think it’s funny how everyone just forgets this show was made expressly against Hillenburg’s vision, and the network waited for him to die to make it and other spinoffs. But nah, it made fun of Doug Walker so it’s cool now.
In defense of Uncle Grandpa, despite all the surreal, lolhahafunny humor the show has, at least it has something that the Patrick Star Show doesn't have Coherent Plots that are much easier to digest than whatever Patrick tries to do

My friend showed me this episode last night and I thought it was the most interesting thing. He is a huge fan of the Nostalgia Critic and also pointed out that his style of criticism is similar to yours from 2013. I never seen The Patrick Star Show myself, but I enjoyed it. It felt kind of meta and apparently the Nostalgia Critic responded by releasing a UA-cam Short where he called TheAngryVideoGameNerd to just tell him that Patrick Star doesn't like him. All in all, this was amusing, glad you covered it! Also, my friend also said the writer for this episode watched reviews on UA-cam and wanted to be a reviewer themself. Just an interesting little tidbit I wanted to share.
Technically Bubble Bass was one of the antagonists to SpongeBob. Bubble Bass did technically almost ruined SpongeBob's cooking skills of missing pickles and he did get exposed hiding the pickles under his tongue. Bubble Bass is pretty much not a good guy and pretty much be an antagonistic towards SpongeBob and his friends. I definitely feel like Bubble Bass isn't going to be successful with his Review Shows since his mother is pretty much wanted him to get a decent job and it's going to be tough competing with Patrick Star.

You wanna know how to stick it to the critics? You write a good show! Calling out critics just makes a person look immature and stubborn. It didn’t work when Friendship is Magic did it, it didn’t work when She-Hulk did it, and it didn’t work when Miss Marvel did it. Some critics actually have good advice that can help people improve their work. Maybe more people should listen to them.
I'm still annoyed at that FIM episode (Fame and Misfortune). The one guy who shouts, "Twilight was better before she got wings" still makes no damn sense in-universe because that dude probably doesn't even know her personally. It really just felt like a not-so-subtle jab at the fandom but it was really immersion-breaking.
Well Doug liked lit. Posting a clip of him "seeing the clip for the first time" and pretending to act surprised. He then calls up James Rolfe to say Spongebob doesn't like you because he wasn't satirized. It's nice to see someone who is able to enjoy a joke at their expense.

I remember how when I saw the title of this episode, I was thinking of my own fanmade deleted scene for the SpongeBob movie, since they both involves Bubble Bass angrily review something, and thought the writers might have seen it.
I spoke to Dee Bradley Baker at a Fan Convention several months back regarding what his thoughts on the Bubble Bass Show (Although this was more of a joke than a behind the scenes discussion.), all you could say is… “I wish there was more.” In his Bubble Bass voice.
You're not the only one who notice the music used in this video comes from "Ape Escape". Definitely a nice touch, if you ask me. A little easter egg for the gamers who regularly watch this guy's content.
I think Doug is self aware enough that being a comedy critic, mocking media and people’s work for laughs, he should be able to take the same mocking criticism thrown back at him. It would be extremely hypocritical of him (or Mr. Enter) if he took it personally. It good to acknowledge your old actions and to not double down when others call you out on it (especially if your whole schtick is criticizing/mocking/making jokes about others).
Kinda meta MrEnter, but I've always liked your over-the-top AVGN style of reviewing, even if that was more of the 2013-2016 era. I get that it may rub people off the wrong way, but sometimes an episode, show, or movie is so bad that it needs a good kicking. IMO the scene at 1:39 may have been an AVGN reference, but who knows lol.

It would have been more interesting if Bubble Bass had been a drama channel, and pulled up footage of Patrick's most hated moments from the previous show. It's like the writers poking fun at UA-camrs, while also showing the ability to laugh at themselves. Missed opportunity in my book. Speaking of books, have you heard about the book "Behind Closed Doors"? It's a piece of SpongeBob lost media. It's a collection of images drawn by the crew, taking out their frustrations at work by drawing crude, rude and lewd images of the characters. LSuperSonicQ did a great video on it.

I'm honestly pretty split on this whole episode. While they did potray the internet reviewers fairly faithfully and it's pretty funny in some places, i kinda find media that makes fun of their critics to be a rather low hanging fruit. Because in most cases, it makes the people who make that piece of media rather ignorant, but seeing how most online critics took it well, i guess it's fine.
Making fun of critics isn’t offensive, but it’s definitely immature and stupid. It’s like the people who wrote this episode don’t realize that tearing others down doesn’t automatically make their product better.

3:36 That's honestly the perfect way to describe The Patrick Star Show: it's SpongeBob mixed with Uncle Grandpa. As someone who actually enjoyed UG, this spinoff was right up my alley. However, I will admit that it's an acquired taste. Like you said, it's not a show that everyone is guaranteed to like. Even so, I think I might be enjoying it more than the current season of the main series. It's not amazing or anything, but I love how unapologetically weird it is.

In defense of Uncle Grandpa, despite all the surreal, lolhahafunny humor the show has, at least it has something that the Patrick Star Show doesn't have

My friend showed me this episode last night and I thought it was the most interesting thing. He is a huge fan of the Nostalgia Critic and also pointed out that his style of criticism is similar to yours from 2013. I never seen The Patrick Star Show myself, but I enjoyed it. It felt kind of meta and apparently the Nostalgia Critic responded by releasing a UA-cam Short where he called TheAngryVideoGameNerd to just tell him that Patrick Star doesn't like him. All in all, this was amusing, glad you covered it! Also, my friend also said the writer for this episode watched reviews on UA-cam and wanted to be a reviewer themself. Just an interesting little tidbit I wanted to share.

Technically Bubble Bass was one of the antagonists to SpongeBob. Bubble Bass did technically almost ruined SpongeBob's cooking skills of missing pickles and he did get exposed hiding the pickles under his tongue. Bubble Bass is pretty much not a good guy and pretty much be an antagonistic towards SpongeBob and his friends. I definitely feel like Bubble Bass isn't going to be successful with his Review Shows since his mother is pretty much wanted him to get a decent job and it's going to be tough competing with Patrick Star.

You wanna know how to stick it to the critics? You write a good show! Calling out critics just makes a person look immature and stubborn. It didn’t work when Friendship is Magic did it, it didn’t work when She-Hulk did it, and it didn’t work when Miss Marvel did it. Some critics actually have good advice that can help people improve their work. Maybe more people should listen to them.
I'm still annoyed at that FIM episode (Fame and Misfortune). The one guy who shouts, "Twilight was better before she got wings" still makes no damn sense in-universe because that dude probably doesn't even know her personally. It really just felt like a not-so-subtle jab at the fandom but it was really immersion-breaking.

I spoke to Dee Bradley Baker at a Fan Convention several months back regarding what his thoughts on the Bubble Bass Show (Although this was more of a joke than a behind the scenes discussion.), all you could say is… “I wish there was more.” In his Bubble Bass voice.

I think Doug is self aware enough that being a comedy critic, mocking media and people’s work for laughs, he should be able to take the same mocking criticism thrown back at him.
It would be extremely hypocritical of him (or Mr. Enter) if he took it personally.
It good to acknowledge your old actions and to not double down when others call you out on it (especially if your whole schtick is criticizing/mocking/making jokes about others).

Kinda meta MrEnter, but I've always liked your over-the-top AVGN style of reviewing, even if that was more of the 2013-2016 era. I get that it may rub people off the wrong way, but sometimes an episode, show, or movie is so bad that it needs a good kicking. IMO the scene at 1:39 may have been an AVGN reference, but who knows lol.
