Why does every single female heroine in animation (at least hollywood) look the fucking same. Same fucking face and art style. I know art styles take popularity for certain time periods but sheesh, feels like I'm watching the same show for every single movie.
It's actually very long and lame excuse. It dates back to a movie called "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within." The animation was ground breaking in that it was the first full length film that used realistic computer animation. It flopped. And a lot of people blamed the animation style. They said the characters looked rather "creepy." Follow that was the "Polar Express" which garnered a lot of the same criticism and "Beowulf." Both had similar complaints.
So it was decided that the realistic animation style was solely to blame, using the theory of the Uncanny Valley. That's the theory where when people see a humanoid like a computer generated person, it creeps us out because it's so real that it's not cartoonish, but not real enough where its indistinguishable. It's the reason why a super realistic doll is so creepy. Our brain can actually tell it's not real, not matter how it actually looks.
So it's been decided to just make animated characters based on common doll models would be used instead of actually attempting anything new. It's a cookie cutter model that no one calls creepy, so it works. In other words, they're making these cookie cutter female characters because they don't want you to be scared.
Why is this such a lame excuse? Because video games have been successfully bridging the uncanny valley for decades. No one complaints that Geralt from Rivia or Nathan Drake or the most recent incarnations of Lara Croft are creepy. And recently the movie TinTin broke that same barrier, proving that the movies I mentioned above failed on the account of their sloppy scripts and subpar voice acting. No one was engaged in the story with those floppy films, so we all couldn't help but notice how unhuman the boring characters were.

So... was this foreign made. The scariness of the monkeys and the lack of dialogue makes me think this is foreign made. It looks like it was made by people who were fired from Dreamworks but got hired by that foreign country. And i say Dreamworks because even thogh the girl is decent looking, every facial expression she does is a pose from a dream works movie poster. that sarcastic Dreamworks "Raised Eyebrow" body language.
