I thought I was going to need a new regulator so watched a few Utubes on the process, bought a new OEM as the utubers recommended not to go cheap, once the door card was off I could see it was just the plastic bolt carrier that needed replacing, so glad I did not have too replace the regulator, although the glass made a few scary noises manipulating the bush into place. I now have a spare regulator & lots of spare bushes. As an insurance policy I also ordered a pile of door card clips and fitted those as a few were missing and some broke during the door card removal. The door card clips were a “reasonable price” for BMW!
Thanks. I have a red 4.6is. Your videos are the best because they show exactly what I find when i get in there. The rear glass clip had fallen off on mine too. ( has been a bit clunky for a while). Got it going today with your help. Thankyou
Thanks for the video bro. So sorry about the window tint. Such a gut punch lol. Surprised your hands didn’t get shredded up for all the handling in there. Thanks again for the real deal video
I keep a long thin screwdriver in the door pocket for when my wife lets the window go down to far. Put the end of the screwdriver in the rear window channel and lever the top of the window forward as you tap the window up switch. Easy peezey.
At the factory, window glass is not installed until the end AFTER the regulator is installed, thats why they don't scratch the glass also. If you pull the glass completely out, then the new regulator won't scratch it. And aftermarket tint is a film.
Sucks about the window tint getting damaged bro. TOP TIP - Get some tape and position about 5 strips over the top of the window frame having around 10mm plus going over the other side of the door frame for strength so the tape won't loose its grip when under load. Move the window right up to the closed position and seal the flapping cut strips of tape over the glass. Then for extra safety put another long strip across the top of all of the other strips and around to the other side of the window. Now you have all the room you need to work without that pesky window in the way. Happy days
*Quick tips for anyone about to do this:* 1 - do not buy the cheapest item, source for good quality aftermarket but if you really have to cheap out then a used BMW OEM is still a better choice than a new Chinesium one 2 - regulators are made with and WITHOUT comfort functions meaning if you manage to cheap out the best you can you'll end up with a regulator that will force you to hold the window button the whole time until it opens or closes 3 - use ducktape to fix the glass in an up position so your hands are free (and you do not get in contact with your window or tint on it). 😉
And I was just saying yesterday you can go cheap but only so cheap or it starts to get really expensive. I will only buy a China part on like a power steering pump because they are soooo expensive for the Luk or whatever they use it's worth it because labor isn't that bad. But when you do use a China part break out the calipers and measure everything.
Mate I know it’s off topic problem but it’s e53 I’m having rear air bag issues after doing other work done need to be able to read the codes but my odb reader won’t show it. What reader do you recommend X5 e53 2003 4.4i
I only recommend BMW standard tools. Absolute pain to setup, but the best thing you can use. However there are plenty of other options. But the best, the one i use, the one i recommend first. BMW standard tools ...... ista, inpa etc
window regulators are the worst, my first go i destroyed a new one and spent close to 6 hours trying to fix it before admitting defeat and just buying another one :D
second! yeah, woo!. If you guys aren't making a X5 LM replica I'm gunna stop watching! Paint it silver (glacier silber) and make a Mac F1 engine in the shed.....

Use a suction cup on the glass to hold the window up out of the way

Andrew you have multiple parts cars lying around I wouldn't be surprised if there are a bunch of interchangeable clips and stuff you could borrow.
If any of you are about it do it you can maneuver the glass out of the door once it is disconnected from the regulator. Best way to do it.

Even though episodes like these arent N54 related, you do a hell of a job making it still super entertaining!
Thanks dude!
That looked very frustrating 😂 Good job you got it done, will the window tint be expensive to get re done?
If it makes you feel better I will also cheap out and make a mess of a job, I’ll usually end up with a Band-Aid or two and a screw left over 👍🏻👌🏻😂
If you disconnected the door switch completely then remove air bag it won’t throw a airbag light mine never has
Arrrgh! Window regs! They can be very painful especially on older bims!
Ahhh man, they are pain, but make the car feel so much nicer, when get rid of a creeking grinding one.

How to destroy your door by not having a clue what you're doing 101
Thanks man, hopefully it helps other not make the same error.

The joys of learning hey. Haha. I was a bit over it today. But happy the thing works now and is nice and quiet.
Well at least anyone seeing this will now know to cut the studs.
Ahh the joys of shity BMW plastics 🤣
I fixed my door card with a glue gun and new clips 😁

Would be dope. Have definitely looked at putting 2 s50 heads on a m70. Kind of complicated.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Nono complaining, just go do it please!
