Tortia Talk: Colleen, I've been meaning to ask you this for like a month Have you ever considered getting acrylic nails? I've struggled with skin picking alot the past few years and it's the only thing that works for me. It pretty much makes it physically impossible to pick because the nail is so fair away from your finger I've even gotten them like super short almost the length ofy natural nail and it was still difficult to do when I caught myself trying. She said she cannot stand it when her nails even go slightly past the tip of her finger and acrylics feel heavy. As someone who has hair similar to yours (thick, wavy/curly, messy by day 2), I agree with you. Curly/wavy hair is such a task to maintain. It’s become such a trend to see natural curls and waves recently, so a lot of pressure comes from people who don’t understand what a struggle it is for some of us. It is EXTREMELY time consuming to manage and is not simple in the slightest. Testing a million products and spending hours doing hair isn’t feasible for most people 2-3 times a week. And that’s how often we have to do that with our texture and oil production. I do my best, but it is extremely hard and the trendiness of curly hair and the curly girl method makes people who don’t have this type of hair believe it’s easy because they don’t truly understand the time and effort it takes.
When people with hair like yours explain it, I feel like it helps a lot of people to understand more so thanks ! I already knew because my sister has curly hair

Totally don’t be nervous, Utah is beautiful and the desert especially is UNREAL. I’m super excited for you to see this part of my state! Utah’s highways and interstates are really nice and straightforward, even out in the desert! So long as you don’t plan to go off roading you should be totally fine :). Pack layers and have so much fun!!!

She is incredible going for postpartum depression, her babies being in the nicu , people making comments about her body and so much more makes me so sad for her but also so proud of her. I have naturally curly hair and I sleep with it in a satin wrap, which has changed my life! It totally helps keep the curls alive for the next day and protects your hair from getting frizzy while you sleep. Definitely recommend getting some sort of satin wrap or bonnet to sleep in!

I think we are all programmed to focus on our appearance, because of our overall media landscape. It's so beauty focused and has been for a long time. Let's just normalize not commenting on someone's looks either way, good or bad. It puts the emphasis on the external. I definitely have super frizzy hair too that’s a similar texture to yours, and I will say changing my shampoo made a world’s difference for me at least. I absolutely had to pick out ones that have anti frizz and I don’t typically follow curly girl either unless I can. I loved the garnier whole blends in coconut oil and cocoa butter or the maui moisture in the curl quench coconut oil. Both of them control my frizz for a good 3-4 days when normally it would be good for a day or two. I also don’t use very much product afterwards either, usually just a curl cream or mousse when it’s wet and a quick scrunch when it’s dry if there’s a crunchy feeling

I have very thick long curly hair and I HIGHLY recommend the revlon blowout brush thing. I absolutely love this for my hair! My hair is very similar to you’re and it does not straighten my hair but makes it easier for me to straighten it. If I let my hair air dry then straighten it, straitening it takes an hour and a half. When I use the revlon brush I can get my hair blow dried and straight in 30-45 minutes. If I’m staying home and know I’m not going anywhere that day I’ll use the revlon brush and just put my hair in a bun for the day, otherwise it’s a big poofy, frizzy, kinda straight but still kinda curly mess.
I can't wait to see the new hair!! I was actually thinking so hard about this and realized that I liked my hair so much better when I cut it because I can put it up in a bun/ponytail or updo so much easier. Yay!

My hair is less curly than your but slightly and the days I wake up and my hair has gotten curly like yours, are my FAVOURITE days. Hi Colleen.. So my hair is exactly like yours.. Wavy, curly, straight from the top and ringlets at the bottom.. And i never use heat treatment or even hairdryer on my hair as it damages your hair and makes it even more frizzy.. What you could do is after you wash and condition your hair.. Try to give a cold rinse to your hair then drain the water, by squeezing your hair, towel dry them as much as you could.. Then take like super tiny drops of coconut oil rub it in your palm and fingers and run those fingers through your ends and mid ends.. And whatever is left over pat it over the top part of your hair.. Then comb your hair let them airdry for like 30 mins or as much as you want to and then roll them in a low bun once it's moderately dry.. And then go about my day.. That way my hair becomes pretty manageable, oil reduces the friz and gives it softness and shine.. And the bun creates beautiful big ringles at bottom and straight at the top.. Even if you wanna leave the hair curly, after you wash them comb it right after the shower tilt your hair upside down shake of the excess water.. Take some oil in your palm and dab it on your ends and mids.. And let it air dry it doesn't get as frizzy P.S. try using wooden wide tooth comb and never use hair "brush"

I have similar hair and I agree that the curved barrel straightener thing keeps it the nicest the longest. I recently got one of those blow drier brush things though because it’s getting colder here and I did not want to go around with wet hair and it worked pretty well and was fairly quick.
it’s funny to me that the sandpaper shaving things have come back, i used them when i was a teenager with a brand called smooth away. gave a very soft smooth result but just takes so much longer than shaving

I have never seen hair exactly like mine!!!! I feel like when you cut your hair short and then let it lay naturally, it will be fresh and curly and lighter weight! I plan to cut shorter when becoming a mom and think it’ll produce healthier and bouncier curls because it’s been pruned LOL - and I think the stringy/straighter pieces are the way they are from us touching them most often and the pure weight of our hair! As someone how has very frizzy and curly hair I understand. I will have a shower and want to leave it down but it takes 30 minutes for me to get it to be somewhat ok. Everyone always says I should just leave it down all the time but they do not understand the time that goes into it. Love you and your family💕

Colleen, I feel you....I was blessed with thick hair as well and when it was long it took 3 days to fully dry in Houston's humidity....Cut it short years ago when my kids were born and Love It! Would no go back to long hair....Short Hair is So Much easier to manage....I think you are gonna Love It...Good luck!
My hair is similar to Colleens, and honestly cutting it short was the best thing I could have done for it. My hair used to be an absolute nightmare to look after but now it’s short, I can literally hop out the shower and it dries perfectly curly (and doesn’t take long to dry! Hey Colleen I have a very similar hair type and it took me years to embrace the chaos of not doing my hair. Getting lots of layers helped me with the wildness and made the chaos look intentional. I know you are about to cut off all your hair and I wanted to suggest a little bit of a wolf cut since the layers will blind together and look great with curly/wavy/straight hair

I did that and picked the whole acrylic nail off my nail and had lovely flakes as nails
I used to "tick off" my nails more or less all my life, and doing acrylic (or gel or rubber base nails) works wonders!

If I’m staying home and know I’m not going anywhere that day I’ll use the revlon brush and just put my hair in a bun for the day, otherwise it’s a big poofy, frizzy, kinda straight but still kinda curly mess.

Colleen, I’m so excited to see your haircut! I was feeling the exact same way about my hair. It would take an eternity to dry and style, which led me to never doing anything with it but putting it on top of my head in a bun.

Colleen! You should try putting the crumble cookies in the air fryer or the oven for like 5-10 minutes and they are SO GOOD! love you and your fam 🫶🏼
Hi Colleen.. So my hair is exactly like yours.. Wavy, curly, straight from the top and ringlets at the bottom.. And i never use heat treatment or even hairdryer on my hair as it damages your hair and makes it even more frizzy..
What you could do is after you wash and condition your hair.. Try to give a cold rinse to your hair then drain the water, by squeezing your hair, towel dry them as much as you could.. Then take like super tiny drops of coconut oil rub it in your palm and fingers and run those fingers through your ends and mid ends.. And whatever is left over pat it over the top part of your hair.. Then comb your hair let them airdry for like 30 mins or as much as you want to and then roll them in a low bun once it's moderately dry.. And then go about my day.. That way my hair becomes pretty manageable, oil reduces the friz and gives it softness and shine.. And the bun creates beautiful big ringles at bottom and straight at the top..
Even if you wanna leave the hair curly, after you wash them comb it right after the shower tilt your hair upside down shake of the excess water.. Take some oil in your palm and dab it on your ends and mids.. And let it air dry it doesn't get as frizzy
P.S. try using wooden wide tooth comb and never use hair "brush"

I have similar hair and I agree that the curved barrel straightener thing keeps it the nicest the longest. I recently got one of those blow drier brush things though because it’s getting colder here and I did not want to go around with wet hair and it worked pretty well and was fairly quick.
it’s funny to me that the sandpaper shaving things have come back, i used them when i was a teenager with a brand called smooth away. gave a very soft smooth result but just takes so much longer than shaving

Utah native here: we have cold mornings and evenings right now. Afternoons are still pretty warm/hot almost. So pack accordingly. Especially out in the national parks. They are going to be very cold mornings and evenings, you may even get frost or snow. Hope you guys enjoy your trip to Utah!!!

I feel like when you cut your hair short and then let it lay naturally, it will be fresh and curly and lighter weight! I plan to cut shorter when becoming a mom and think it’ll produce healthier and bouncier curls because it’s been pruned LOL - and I think the stringy/straighter pieces are the way they are from us touching them most often and the pure weight of our hair! As someone how has very frizzy and curly hair I understand. I will have a shower and want to leave it down but it takes 30 minutes for me to get it to be somewhat ok. Everyone always says I should just leave it down all the time but they do not understand the time that goes into it.

Colleen, I feel you....I was blessed with thick hair as well and when it was long it took 3 days to fully dry in Houston's humidity....Cut it short years ago when my kids were born and Love It! Would no go back to long hair....Short Hair is So Much easier to manage....I think you are gonna Love It...Good luck!

My hair is similar to Colleens, and honestly cutting it short was the best thing I could have done for it. My hair used to be an absolute nightmare to look after but now it’s short, I can literally hop out the shower and it dries perfectly curly (and doesn’t take long to dry! My hair used to take hours)

For frizziness, there is a frizz ease dream curls spray. It really helps with firzz and and can help bring out curls.

Hey Colleen I have a very similar hair type and it took me years to embrace the chaos of not doing my hair. Getting lots of layers helped me with the wildness and made the chaos look intentional. I know you are about to cut off all your hair and I wanted to suggest a little bit of a wolf cut since the layers will blind together and look great with curly/wavy/straight hair
