Unbelievable quality of Tennis here - Sampras’s movement and free hitting from the Baseline are indeed on a different level!!

Yes still watching this in 2021!
Coz of the cam view, one can feel the hard hitting ground strokes produced by both players and especially the precision from Pete. And if you ever wondered why players from his era found it tough to beat him, this camera view gives you the answer. The ball from Pete comes with such velocity and precision. Pleasure to watch!

This looks like peak Pete Sampras. A monster from the baseline, and everywhere else.

I grew up watching the tail end of petes career and have watched fed/nadal their entire careers. I have to say that Pete is one of a kind, he has such a presence on the court and outside of fed there is no one close to him period!

id say federer could not beat this sampras... at any time... just see what federer did against djokovich... how many finals federer was destroyed by djoko and nadal... against top sampras federer would lost even worse than he did to djoko and nadal...

@@danilomarvel5657 Tennis at that level is about match ups and when the players were at their prime. A 96 Sampras could have done serious damage to about anyone on a fast hard and grass court.

Same as me age wise watched Sampras from 1999 onwards but I’m on a journey to try and watch every Sampras match, so I know his career very well. Samprasisgoat

@@mrbobevans '96 is literally his only prime year during which he didn't win wimbledon. 1994 and 1997 were his best seasons.

pete may have been better in 99 resultswise, but this pete, '94-'96 pete, this all court dominator had the most impressive game. after this he slowly got bulkier and slower, but this pete with the elite foot speed and the aggressive backhand was the all court prototype that no one had ever seen before and seldom since.

1996 Sampras played the best tennis of his career, but he couldn`t keep this monster level up for a longer time. Unbelieveable, what he have played here!

Tennis19999 i think that he played even better during the summer of 1999. Bummer that he got injured prior to the US OPEN. He would have won it

People don't realize that Pete Sampras was the best player of all time considering the level of play he could achieve. He would have blown away any of todays players including Rafa ,Roger and Djokovic on the fast courts of the late 80's and early 90's. His movement was incredible an effortless like Federer. His forehand was absolutely monstrous and backhand underrated. The serve was and still is the best there will ever be.

    • @michelez715
      @michelez715 4 роки тому +6

Don't forget Pete's second serve. Definitely the best there ever was, and will be.

Stop. Guys are doubling Sampras' numbers. And they're doing it without the cheap points on serve.
He is probably the most pitifully conditioned champion of all time.

@@saptarshilahiri9573 lmao he beat federer once out of the 4 exhibitions they played. Anyway it's not even real matches, Fed won their only true encounter in 2001. Wait but "it was old Sampras" yeah right old at 29 😂

The big 3 all have better backhands and forehands than Sampras. Sampras had better net skills and serve (Fed is not far behind) and their movements are on the same levels, with djokovic probably leading when it comes to the entire career.

Some say 96 was Pete at his best. IMHO, summer of 1999 before the back injury was Pete at his peak. He had fully embraced the S&V game that summer. After that back injury, he still played great tennis but lost to players he would have beaten before the injury, ie (Safin and Hewitt).

His conditioning was a joke, but he knew it. If you made him run wide on that forehand side, he had already decided that he wasn't running back.

Players today only win because they are fit enough to hit heavy topspin for a very long time. They no longer have the skill like sampras or agassi did. Especially with net points. Look at federer. He loses to two players that hit very spinny shots and have extreme endurance. I blame the new racquet technologies.

It seems pretty obvious that the balls they are using today are very different than the ones in this video, much heavier and topspin friendly
But they had to change the game, I understand, otherwise Federer would have won 3-4 slams every year for a couple decades
