An oldie and a goodie! That belt hanging sewing kit is a very good idea and could easily be expanded to include many other items, first aid, fire starting, tinder collection, a small flashlight, etc, etc. In some cases a slightly larger hanging case for the belt or a much larger one for the rucksack or backpack, the possibilities are endless. Many years ago, durning my time with the Boy Scouts, we used the cardboard tubes from all kinds of paper rolls(toilet paper, paper towels and such) to store all kinds of loose objects. Many people replace the needle and thread with a roll of duc tape(aka riggers tape, 100 mph tape, engineering tape) but I still carry a small sewing kit along with the duc tape. I like the idea of a handcrafted item to add some style to an EDC. The world needs more videos like yours, thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful sewing kit! Also makes an interesting reminder of the severity of the weather in their homeland.. I'm guessing it's part of their edc because at certain times of the year a bad enough tear in their clothing could literally mean death by exposure. Thanks for the thought proving content, I'm enjoying your channel

I appreciate that you talked about different perspectives and needs in the context of discussing EDC.
I'm American, and I now live in the southern part of the country... This is where guns are pretty popular and where open carry is legal...but it's really localised. Bushcraft in the US is also popular with preppers and survivalists and there's a lot of blending.
Thanks for showing the Sami sewing kit, it's beautiful...and the beauty of Denmark in Autumn 🍂

A very good summary of EDC options......... now that I think about it, I believe the seasons influence my EDC kit. Although I am also a gear geek so it is a fun element as well to constantly modify and improve. I just added a Knipex 125 mm long adjustable grip pliers that acts as a mini-vice to my kit which I can recommend to you. Thank you for the nice videos.

When I first started seeing EDC, I looked at what I already carried! Being a woman, I always have a handbag, and as I am sure your wife can tell you, once I had my son, the bag got bigger! 😆 I still carry bandaids (plasters) from that time, for little injuries. I have a gun permit, but not yet a gun, as the world has become scary (and I am an American). I have a flashlight, keys, a whistle for my dog. So I carry a lot, generally. But I would leave this at home if I were to go in the woods. So, very good point that EDC changes with your purpose.

I'm really digging your channel! I'm a bit late to the game on this video, it's a good one. I like your approach. I can't fathom not being able to carry a knife or gun! I'm in Kansas, USA. In our state it is legal to carry a gun concealed or in plain sight with a few exceptions regarding schools and a couple other types of places. One of my EDC items starting in the spring is insect repellent , our bugs are insane and always seem to trying to eat us, haha. Ticks, mosquitos, and biting flies are numerous in my area. With me living in the United States it would be impossible to survive without some sort of protection while out in the wild. I know that in some countries like Canada, Australia, and even in Europe guns are not allowed except for shotguns to have in your home, or on your person, unless you have a special permit. That is a nice little tool you have to put your sewing needle, and thread in and it look like you could put another small item in there.

Got an old-fashioned, antler-handled jack-knife about three inches (about seven centimeters in European terms) with a hunting blade and a whittling/leather-work/neutering blade on it. Great alongside a lighter and my wallet. Camping or hiking, I carry a Mora Companion (anniversary edition, so stainless and unable to double as a fire-steel unfortunately, meaning I have to bring a ferro rod or a separate steel for the flint along) in a leather sheath I found for a dollar at a garage sale. Added to this is some 60 yards of twine for the handle and made into a lanyard so it's a neck-knife. Alongside the lighter and pocketknife, plus some smokes, this is my bare-minimum carry for the woods. In your backpacking video we discussed carrying traditional Cherokee and Choctaw hunting gear and some minimalist "possibles bag" and "tinder bag" ideas, plus bagged tea as opposed to coffee due to not needing a pot. Still working on getting pictures and videos up, if not for UA-cam then for other sites. Great video. :)

Thanks and you're welcome. :) The pocketknife with the pointy blade for skinning and gutting animals plus the "clip" blade for leather, wood, and farm tasks like hoof cleaning and castration of livestock is a non-locking blade and quite small and stout, so even most European countries wouldn't have an issue with it in your pocket and out of sight. Kids when I went to school due to living out in the countryside and and even now after all these shootings in the US where I live still in the district I went to and others like it could carry multi-tools like a Swiss army or a Leatherman for sharpening their pencil and/or wood-shop class, only getting into trouble if they actually were dumb enough to try to hurt someone. Many even would bring tobacco pouches without tobacco or empty Altoids cans which were filled instead with useful little things like aspirin, Benadryl, fishing line, mini-hooks for perch and bluegill, tiny compasses, whistles, lighters (in addition to the ones we all carried in our pockets), plus paracord among other good things to have on hand. This was in case of a field trip or a lock-down and so both guys and girls alike had plenty of great little gadgets on them just in case.

Got a very nice pipe collection at home, with a strong preference for "Longbottom" out of the "Middle Earth" collection which is a blend of Latakia and Cavendish that is named for the variety of "pipe leaf" favored by the humans in "Lord of the Rings", as theirs is stated to be "Turkish" in addendum notes. Tons of smoke shops carry versions of it, the "official" version being made by these guys in St. Louis and sold mostly in Missouri, Kansas, and parts of Illinois and Tennessee. As for the Second Amendment, very firm believer who owns a rifle and takes good care of it, while also being sensible enough to have gone out and got a gun license and thinking that people that belong in asylums shouldn't be allowed within a good hundred feet of any weapon and be a danger to themselves and others. Kids should be taught if raised in a home with guns to respect weapons and how to be careful and safe, with proper safety precautions taken to ensure no accidents happen prior to the time they're mature enough to handle a weapon. Especially don't drink and shoot. Also, a splash of Kahlua in some black coffee with just a spoon or two of brown sugar and a Punch cigar ("Ahnald"'s brand of choice, lol) is very nice.

Two things ✌🏻 There is a difference if you use pine/spruce wood and hardwood.
Pine and spruce makes much more smoke and soot … that birch, beech, oak wood etc.
The idea about using an alcohol burner ( Trangia?) is also a good solution 👌🏻😊🌲

I think a EDC is a must have BUT it should not be built a round a weapon. Like if you work in the medical field you edc would be a kit built to save lives. Or a computer programmer would have usb drives a cables maybe some problem solving programs. Now me I’m in a semi truck and I’m no more then a thousand feet from the truck or all the stuff I need. I don’t even carry a wallet just my iPhone and truck key and that is all.

No, you can't edc a knife, of any kind, you need to have a legal purpose, or be a scout or hunter.. you can own many knifes in diffrent sizes and shapes but you CAN NOT (legally) carry a knife with you, beacause the purpose "maybe i need it" dosent hold up to the laws :(

What if you're a 'homeless policeman' .... & what would their edc consist of?

After some considerable contemplation upon the question ...... i cannot come up with anything either constructive or mildly amusing. Hopefully, one of your subscribers may be, or have been a 'homeless policeman' (or woman), and will be able to enlighten us.

Do you know what we call bear spray over here? A condiment. Whether the United States or Canada, most people in Grizzly country carry a rifle.
