  • Cup O’ Carnatic Point of View, a NEW web series by Dr.Jayanthi Kumaresh aims to present a single Ragam from various points of view. Each episode tries to show you the different facets of a particular ragam. The ragam is defined by a finite set of notes but when combined differently, it evokes very different emotions from within the listener.
    #saraswathiveena #jayanthikumaresh #cupocarnatic #cocPointOfView #carnaticmusic #indianclassicalmusic #storythroughmusic #cocseason7 #Ganamurthi
    Today's Ragam:
    GANAMURTI
    ============
    Ganamurti (pronounced gānamūrti, meaning the idol of music) is the 3rd Melakarta rāgam in the 72 melakarta rāgam system of Carnatic music.
    AROHANA: S R1 G1 M1 P D1 N3 S
    AVAROHANA: S N3 D1 P M1 G1R1S
    Cup O’ Carnatic is an original web series launched in 2017 and it has had 6 successful seasons with more than 2 million views cumulatively on social media. The series aims to popularize Carnatic music in general and Veena in particular and each episode handles a specific subject with duration of about 5 minutes or less.
    Why the name Cup O' Carnatic? There were a couple of reasons for this. Carnatic Music is a vast ocean and the episodes aim to only give a small glimpse of this world - in a Cup. And the hope is that you'll be able to watch an episode in the time it takes for you to finish a Cup of tea or coffee. Enjoy!

    Can I "like" this over and over again?! Reminds me of the "Strings Attached" concert at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore, from long ago. Wonderful way to learn the nuances of the ragam!

    You have magic touch and perfect pitch.Another topic for point of view may be melodic structure.For example in Hindustani classical there are three ragas;puriya,marwa and sohni.Same cluster of notes but different melodic phrasing to produce very different effects.

    Each rAgA has a mood. We all know.
    But you can create many different moods in the same RAgA!
    You imagination is very fertile - both in storytelling and in converting those visible emotions into audible music🎵
    Maybe you can make your own movies with just your Veena and your voice. 👍🙏🌹🙏👍

    Omg you keep outdoing yourself!! I was missing your previous series’ but the new ones keep getting better! Every time your “story” comes into my feed I click right away and almost instinctively hit the like button after I start listening!! Each one is a musical story for us “big kids” and the little kids, I feel this should be mandatory listen for kids to get them excited about music! Ganamuthi is one of my favorites and it’s been disheartening to know only one Krithi in it and this sure made up! I can’t help but ramble every time you post one of these. Thanks so much! Keep ‘em coming, please…

    What a beautiful story weaved around various avatars of Ganamurthe! I forgot that that I am also immersed in Ganamurthe too as I got lost in the story. What a beautiful expression of ragam, storytelling and creating the mood through all the avatars of Ganamurthe!
