- Cup O’ Carnatic Point of View, a NEW web series by Dr.Jayanthi Kumaresh aims to present a single Ragam from various points of view. Each episode tries to show you the different facets of a particular ragam. The ragam is defined by a finite set of notes but when combined differently, it evokes very different emotions from within the listener.

Kalyani is a melakarta raga (parent musical scale) in the Carnatic music.
It is the 65th melakarta raga under the Katapayadi sankhya. It is also called Mechakalyani. The notes for Kalyani are S R2 G3 M2 P D2 N3. Kalyani is the first Prathi Madhyama raga that was ever discovered. It was obtained by the process of Graha Bhedam or modal shift of tonic of the ancient Shadja Grama. Wikipedia

Cup O’ Carnatic is an original web series launched in 2017 and it has had 6 successful seasons with more than 2 million views cumulatively on social media. The series aims to popularize Carnatic music in general and Veena in particular and each episode handles a specific subject with duration of about 5 minutes or less.
Why the name Cup O' Carnatic? There were a couple of reasons for this. Carnatic Music is a vast ocean and the episodes aim to only give a small glimpse of this world - in a Cup. And the hope is that you'll be able to watch an episode in the time it takes for you to finish a Cup of tea or coffee. Enjoy!

A kaleidoscopic view with Kalyani... I felt as if any passionate person (not 'knowing' about their passion) will go through these stages. An initiation ('mother'), an exploration ('the class'), a recognition ('the teacher') and a realisation ('the arangetram')-through which the person keeps constantly molding. Kalyani carries out the progression smooth and soft...
At first it felt as if a mistake was made in the video description, but until you concluded (and even after that) I couldn't believe this series has ended now. I was expecting much more 'raga-stories' which expanded my views on Carnatic music. However, it has made me "realise" (atleast attempts to...) 7 ragas, which is wonderful for me. Thank you for this enchanting series, and hoping for a new and exciting series now... ❤️🎶

So so beautiful. No words amazing Kalyani and motivating story. It so touches so many of us in the same boat trying to get kids to love, practice music, and make it their friend for life. My boys love your series, stories and enjoy it. I don't think they will ever forget the raga nuances that you explained through your stories.
So much efforts into the video making. Literally our jaws dropped like the the one in the story, by looking at your versatility. That interweaves music and Storytelling to make ragas express their emotions.

I really loved your series. I also came to your concert in Mylapore fine arts. Your RTP was awesome with many ragams for different Ramayana characters. It was amazing when you put the story and each person’s emotion in the RTP.

This brought fond memories of me learning the Kalyani keerthanam Himadrisuthe Pahimam. This was taught to me by my original teacher's father because my teacher was on maternity leave. He had different mudras and facial expressions while teaching different swaras of the sahithyam, which I could not fathom at that time as a 7 year old kid and actually I used to laugh after the class imagining his expressions. It made so much sense later on, as I gained little musical wisdom. Thank You and all your team for this wonderful series.
