Holliday is a lock. He will be the starting 2nd basemen. Also, I have a hard time believing Mayo isn’t on the opening day roster. Urias is not nearly as valuable imo.
Hi Connor, could've sworn in a recent pod you suggested having O'Neill and Mountcastle next to each other in the lineup would be a mistake due to their strikeout numbers?
As long as Elias has to do things his way and not be responsible for spending money the Os will never reach a world series. They are a third place team at best right now. Elias has shown the report about him was correct
We definately don't need another position player. We have players in the minors we can call up. We need an ace pitcher and a number 2 pitcher. Most of the pitchers we have are comming off injuries. It's unknown if these pitchers are going to bounce back.
Rotation. Eflin, Grayson, Povich, Dean, Rogers, Sugano (returning Bradish and Wells)...the back end of the bullpen Perez, Seranthony, Cano and Bautista is very nice.
Basically on the same page with the roster prediction and where they are currently looking to upgrade. Though, I think I'm lower on Urias than most. He is a good utility player but his defense isn't what it used to be and for some reason, the O's just aren't playing him at 2B anymore as he only played 16 innings there in '24. Related to this, I think Westy is cemented as the everyday 3B this year, similar to Gunnar at SS last year leaving even fewer chances for Urias. I would take Mateo over Urias without a second thought, so much more versatility and can help the club even when he's in a slump. When Urias is in a slump, like at the beginning of last year, he's almost no help at all. I have no problem with Urias on this team to start the year and hope he does well, but I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't.
I don't think it is. Pencil him in at 2B pretty much every day. That last week of the season, where he ditched the leg kick, showed the O's he's ready to be a regular starter. Just needs ABs. He's still gonna struggle at times because he's a young player, but I think '25 is a breakout year for him.
Holliday some 2nd base??? He’s are everyday 2nd baseman and trade mountcastle + a prospect or 2 for a ace mayo /ohearn 1b/dh you love the veterans we need to move these young guys up or trade them for pitching
If Coby Mayo is not on this roster, so we can see what we have in him, this team is a total joke. They should have given him a real shot last year. The bloom is off the Elias rose more and more every day.
Anyone else worried about Jax being a flop? Not because of last years numbers just via the eye test? Bat, defense, arm, power, even speed, Nothing looked as good as it was scouted to be. Plus he’s a little tiny guy. Lol
Trade for Luis Castillo and sign Jack to a two/three year deal with an opt out after 2 years. We can’t keep patching holes and wasting Gunnar, Adley etc years when we know they’ll be leaving in four years
Dude, this was an excellent listen. I think the primary nit I'd pick here is that I'd put Gunnar in the 1, 2, or 4 hole. At least again righties, but maybe every day.
Do NOT sign Jack Flaherty!! Also, I am a lifelong diehard O's fan. If Gunnar isn't an Oriole for life, I will be super pissed and may possibly end my fanship
Gunnar/Adley and if Jackson lives up to their potentials, all will be elsewhere sadly! Another reason it’s sad to watch us not be more aggressive in the market of startling pitching. We’ve a maybe top twenty-ish starting rotation at best imo and If we bring Jack in maybe 18th? Now, grab jack and go trade for a Castillo we’d be top 10 imo. You guys remember when Elias said, “it’s take off time”? 😂 our GM is great at finding young talents? Outside of that he’s a fish outta water
Still can’t believe we gave Norby and Sowers away for a minor league pitcher. Look at what the RedSox gave up for Crochet vs…. Just a beyond laughable trade by Mike
If Mountcastle is here and is planned to be the short end of a platoon, then you trade him. He has too much value at this point to do that. Mayo can fill that role and play fiest or DH and could play 3rd if you want which is more that Mountcastle can do. Mountcastle can be traded for a starting pitcher. I think we need a starting pitcher and one bulpen arm. I think Holiday is a lock and in this scenario Mayo would make the roster. So in this scenario this would be my opening day starter roster: Position Players: Ruschman Sanchez Ohearn Mayo Holiday Gunnar Westburg Urias Mateo Cowser Mullins O'Neil Kjerstad Pitchers: Traded Pitcher (Cease, Castillo) Elfin Grayson Kremer Sugano Bautista Cano Dominguez Soto Perez Akin Suarez FA Bulpen arm RH Lineup: 1. Cowser (LF) 2. Ruschman (C) 3. Henderson (SS) 4. Ohearn (1B) 5. Kjerstad (DH) 6. Westburg (3rd) 7. Oneil (RF) 8. Holiday (2nd) 9. Mullins (CF) LH Lineup 1. Westburg (2nd) 2. Ruschman (C) 3. Henderson (SS) 4. O'Neil (RF) 5. Mayo (1B) 6. Cowser (LF) 7. Kjerstad (DH) 8. Urias (3rd) 9. Mateo (CF)
This lineup is not better than last year., and we all know what happened last year. Insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Yeah it’s amazing when I see people try to rationalize it and make us sound as good. We lost a number one ace and a likely a 40+ homerun hitter, so how exactly are we better?
Ill start! Rotation - Eflin, Rodriguez, Sugano, Kremer, Povich Relief - Dominguez, Cano, Selby, Suarez, Perez, Bautista, Young, Catcher - Rutschman Backup - Sanchez First - Mountcastle Second - Holliday Short - Henderson Third - Westburg Left - Cowser Center - Mullins Right - O'Neill DH - O'Hearn Bench: Cameron, Mateo, Urias, Rivera In-season call-ups: Mayo, Soto, Pinto if there is an issue at the catcher position this year
@BillFromDaShore Id love him on our 26-man but I have a feeling he might be traded for an arm. Personally, I'd take him all day over most of the bench guys. And if we didnt snag O'Neill, he might have had an opportunity to start the season in right
Holliday is a lock. He will be the starting 2nd basemen. Also, I have a hard time believing Mayo isn’t on the opening day roster. Urias is not nearly as valuable imo.
Haven't listened all off season and tuned in for this episode. Very refreshing to listen about the Os and this upcoming season.
Hi Connor, could've sworn in a recent pod you suggested having O'Neill and Mountcastle next to each other in the lineup would be a mistake due to their strikeout numbers?

I'm excited!
Jackson and Heston need to play nearly every day
I thought Holliday was guaranteed at second
Rotation. Eflin, Grayson, Povich, Dean, Rogers, Sugano (returning Bradish and Wells)...the back end of the bullpen Perez, Seranthony, Cano and Bautista is very nice.
thank you

wow, certainly didn't realize that Holliday's spot was so up in the air
I don't think it is. Pencil him in at 2B pretty much every day. That last week of the season, where he ditched the leg kick, showed the O's he's ready to be a regular starter. Just needs ABs. He's still gonna struggle at times because he's a young player, but I think '25 is a breakout year for him.
I think he’s a bust
@@mikeleone2699not a baltimore fan but saying a 20 year old is a bust is way too soon.
Holliday some 2nd base??? He’s are everyday 2nd baseman and trade mountcastle + a prospect or 2 for a ace mayo /ohearn 1b/dh you love the veterans we need to move these young guys up or trade them for pitching
O's have soooo much fielding depth. I agree, bring the young guys up or trade them for a true Ace.
If Coby Mayo is not on this roster, so we can see what we have in him, this team is a total joke. They should have given him a real shot last year. The bloom is off the Elias rose more and more every day.
Lots of options pitching wise coming to Bowie and Tides
Anyone else worried about Jax being a flop? Not because of last years numbers just via the eye test?
Bat, defense, arm, power, even speed, Nothing looked as good as it was scouted to be. Plus he’s a little tiny guy. Lol
Suarez should be a starter.
Last season was an anomaly for him. He’s not going to be that good again.
@shore-cityfilms Ye of little faith...
McDermott coming too along with Brandon Young!!
Colin Selby the Hebrew beard!!!!
We got a new owner and got worse
Do NOT sign Jack Flaherty!! Also, I am a lifelong diehard O's fan. If Gunnar isn't an Oriole for life, I will be super pissed and may possibly end my fanship
What option do we have?? Give up mayo?
Gunnar would demand an insanely high price that orioles ownership wouldn't pay.
Gunnar isn’t staying past 2028. Maybe extend two (3 max) of Cowser, Holliday, Rutschman, Westburg if we’re lucky
As much as I would like Gunner Henderson to stay he's not go to keep him when he goes to free agency he's going to the Yankees unfortunately
Gunnar/Adley and if Jackson lives up to their potentials, all will be elsewhere sadly! Another reason it’s sad to watch us not be more aggressive in the market of startling pitching.

For how much Holiday was hyped up he had a terrible season.
...he was 19
Do not put trash Arias or Jorge Mateo on the roster give it to Jackson holiday he deserves it
Please don't sign Flaherty. And get rid of the City connect uniforms.
Solid all around for hitters. This time 0's won't be favored to win the division. We shall see. Looking to see Cedric have a solid season
I'm OK with Holiday at AAA till he is 🔥 🔥 🔥 then trade Mateo or Urias to make room.
So in this scenario this would be my opening day starter roster:
Position Players:
Ruschman

Ohearn
Mayo
Holiday
Gunnar
Westburg
Urias
Mateo
Cowser
Mullins
O'Neil
Kjerstad
Pitchers:
Traded Pitcher (Cease, Castillo)
Elfin
Grayson
Kremer
Sugano
Bautista
Cano
Dominguez
Soto
Perez
Akin
Suarez
FA Bulpen arm
RH Lineup:
1. Cowser (LF)
2. Ruschman (C)
3. Henderson (SS)
4. Ohearn (1B)
5. Kjerstad (DH)
6. Westburg (3rd)
7. Oneil (RF)
8. Holiday (2nd)
9. Mullins (CF)
LH Lineup
1. Westburg (2nd)
2. Ruschman (C)
3. Henderson (SS)
4. O'Neil (RF)
5. Mayo (1B)
6. Cowser (LF)
7. Kjerstad (DH)
8. Urias (3rd)
9. Mateo (CF)
If Kjerstad isn't playing then I won't be watching the O's at all this season period.
@caryladd863 I hope Kjerstad plays at least half the week or longer and if he plays better than Mullins, he needs to get more playing time.
This lineup is not better than last year., and we all know what happened last year. Insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Right - O'Neill

In-season call-ups: Mayo, Soto, Pinto if there is an issue at the catcher position this year
Where's Kjerstad in your projections?
@BillFromDaShore Id love him on our 26-man but I have a feeling he might be traded for an arm. Personally, I'd take him all day over most of the bench guys. And if we didnt snag O'Neill, he might have had an opportunity to start the season in right
