- There are many great sushi restaurants in NYC and great sushi restaurants in New Jersey. Everyone knows all about the best omakase in NYC and where to eat Michelin Star Sushi in NYC. However, NYC finally has a new addition to the New York City sushi scene, Japanese conveyor belt sushi. Conveyor belt sushi, also often called rotation sushi or rotating sushi, is one of the most popular fast foods in Japan. Out of all the Japanese conveyor belt sushi restaurants, however, the most popular chain is Kura Rotating Sushi Bar. Technically in New Jersey, Kura Fort Lee location has been a staple for a while, but the Kura Jersey City location is brand new. I couldn't pass up the chance to film a conveyor belt sushi vlog and a conveyor belt sushi mukbang.
When eating at Kura, it often feels like you are eating the best sushi in Japan, and you're eating at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Japan. Everything about the place, such as the machines, the food, and the Japanese robot server, feels very uniquely Japanese. Kura may not be the best conveyor belt sushi in Japan but it is definitely one of the most popular of the conveyor belt sushi chains! For that reason it has made its way to the US and opened multiple locations.
I had a blast trying Japan conveyor belt sushi in this vid, as I feasted on toro sushi, negitoro rolls, taiyaki ice cream, more fatty tuna, beef udon, and all sorts of delectable delicious Japanese foods. This is a video you don't want to miss! It's one of the most fun restaurants in New Jersey and, in terms of enjoyment, I'd consider it one of the best restaurants in New Jersey and one of the best restaurants in New York City!

Hey UA. We have a Kura here in Brea, California. You can also order sushi and of course dessert from the menu. I like to order from the menu because it comes fresh instead of wondering how long something's been sitting on the conveyer belt. Great vid as always.

Just keep in mind wait times can be quite long. If you use the Kura app though you can save a spot in line remotely

I’m in San Diego and each time I go to this place it’s packed to oblivion and the line to wait is like two hours. So, to avoid that I eat super early now. 5pm and it’s a short wait or sometimes not even a wait at all. I like this place. I frequently go to indulge on sushi.

So cool and fun!! I'm like you... Love my salmon. When I lived in England, we had a place called "YO! Sushi" and it was the same concept. They used different colored plates / bowls, and that determined the cost of each. Always had an excellent time there! Now you're gonna make me go to Jersey😂
Yeah most conveyor belt sushi places charge different prices for different items so it's interesting Kura just does a flat price for everything. Even their toro pieces! This chain is expanding very rapidly. Maybe they'll open one near you someday!

This place is technically in New Jersey but it's very easy to get to from NYC. There's a subway that pretty much goes straight to it

Good stuff! Did they have the chawanmushi at that location? That was always my favorite thing to start with at kaiten places. It's interesting to me that they had the constant conveyor belt because last I was in Japan I noticed the various chains were cutting back a lot on having sushi just parading around the belt and instead tended to focus on special ordering everything.
Ah they don't have that unfortunately. Interesting that Japan is shifting away from fully stocked conveyor belt sushi going around the restaurant and shifting more to the special ordering system. That's a bummer because the parading sushi makes it so much more fun!
Wish I would of seen this prior a couple things I wanted to try after seeing this that I didn't.
that beef and noodle soup looked really good. sushi up here in canada is like fast food with all kinds of sauces and ingredients. i cant eat it anymore
Some truth to that. Still, be selective of the restaurant and I almost only order sashimi.

Yes to each their own of course! I can see people enjoying the chewiness of it, sorta like edible bubble gum. My opinions are always my own and I won't push them on other people
I usually go to Kura in Fort Lee, NJ. Good service, but I noticed the portions got a little smaller. I look forward to trying the jersey city location.
Jersey City also has Ani Ramen with a hidden sushi restaurant in it. Sushi by bou. Could be cool for the channel.

Kura Sushi is basically the same in Japan. Just the prices are different. Most plates in Japan are $1.

Been so curious about this place since it's opened, but the wait times & not knowing how it actually works has prevented me from going. Will definitely be trying this soon!
If you download their app you can add yourself to the wait list remotely. Though just a heads up they turn off that feature sometimes when they are very busy

How was the experience and would you recommended it for the price
I think it's worth going once in a while for the experience and the food is also overall solid. It is a tad expensive but probably in line with normal sushi prices. Just remember to pace yourself as it's easy to have so much fun grabbing plates you end up overeating (and also overpaying).
I will try it out because it's the sushi you will get from Japan but the typical ones were you try from the all you can eat sushi buffets
I kinda prefer Sushiro to Kura, the fish at Sushiro just seems more fresh. The overall quality at Sushiro seems to be a notch above Kura. Plus overall its cheaper if you get the same stuff.
if we grab a plate off the conveyor, and then decide that u changed ur mind, can u put the plate back on the belt for someone else to eat?
The plates contain embedded RFID tags for tracking. Don’t touch plates on the conveyor belt unless you intend to take them. Additionally, don’t put plates back onto the conveyor belt.

You don’t use wasabi or ginger with your sushi?
I used wasabi, I just forgot to include the clip of me mixing it into soy sauce. I ate tons of pickled ginger off camera
These are fun places to go to but can get pricey quick. On top of that, there are so many ACE sushi places for under 30 bucks so ACE is a better a deal.
True I do love me a good AYCE sushi spot! You are right that it's easy to get carried away and overeat and overpay.
3.70?..That seems kinda pricey as I can easily polish off 20 plates, which would cost 75 bucks...get me to the nearest buffet with a sushi bar..
Keep in mind that each plate actually has two pieces (except the toro plate). So 20 plates would be about 40 pieces of sushi. If you can do that hey my hat's off to you!
No problem... I love sushi..I tired this experience in SF...it was fun, but tricky..its not fun if you're on a budget... Figuring out how much I have amass kinda ruined it for me..definitely fun to try once, but bottom dollar, its a buffet..

Uhm, I tried Kura Sushi in Phoenix, Arizona: the food was nothing special and it was more expensive than other options with comparable quality. It was noticeably clean. My conclusion was that the technology they use was cool, but I don't need to go back there again.
Got this place in the Bay Area Cali where I’m from it’s ok but to get full you end up ordering over 10 plates that adds up to being to expensive for this over hype spot
The sushi slices are a bit thin.

$3.75 is kind of expensive. A buffet is under $40.
Keep in mind that each plate has two pieces, except for the toro plate. Also maki rolls have about six pieces. That being said I agree it's not that cheap

Recently tried this place,wasn't impressed on many different levels.
The noise says mmm that’s great, while your face on the other hand says this is terrible.
Too expensive for conveyor belt sushi. In Japan is cheaper.
Tried the one in Bellevue Wa. the sushi was terrible . i have had better sushi at a Chinese buffet. i think these are franchises , so the quality depends on the owner .
