  • Join me in this video as I bumble and stumble my way through the suspension and steering reassembly of my old, 1976 Holden HX Le Coupe over 2 months in my driveway... Covers everything from part cleaning and painting, ball joint press-fit, upper and lower control arms bush installation, springs, sway bars, steering reconditioning and fitment from steering column, intermediate shaft fitment (rag joint reco), power steering reco to drag-links and tie-rods. I also decided to install an second hand original Holden inlet manifold while I was at it... (bonus - Installing a Holden V8 inlet manifold!!)
Yuo can watch the disassembly of the car in part 1 here: • Le Coupe Front End Reb...
All the UA-cam videos I watched to try and figure out how to do all this were bare chassis, ground up rebuilds (which makes it look easy). This is a complete-ish front suspension and steering rebuild with the car still intact... just like at home or in your garage.
    Hope you find this useful...

Mate for a backyard job you killed it! Not rocket science but glad ive put my hq in for this exact job, my bushes are a bit more shagged than that though 😅 making me a bit scarred for the bill but will be well worth it! :)

On the side to force the tapered spline out, the lower ball joints can just be hammered directly out

    hi
Steering rag joint last for years and years most still going after 50yrs
urethane bushes all degrade over time ,,the material crumbles
USe urethane ie supa pro blue only
front lower inner bushes wear quickly and are available in HEAVY DUTY by GMH and Aftermarket
urethane front lower inner and upper inners and swaybar link bushes are all high wearing
Using rubber bushes by Mackay is great as an option also
intermediate streering shaft will need pressing of pin to change boot

Hey mate - love this video! I hope you have more.
I have a question, how did you flush the corrosion out of the engine ( water) I have just had to buy a new radiator and heater core and will be installing and flushing the cooling system -- Any suggestions?

You are meant to tighten up bushings with car at ride height or you will just destroy your new bushes mate.

How did you you remove all the bushes and what size socket was that. Ive got the same ball joint press kit but having trouble taking the old bushes off

      @hibermate  3 роки тому +1

@Matt - I had to take the upper control arms to a mechanic who used an air chisel to remove the bushes... Really hard to DIY without the right tools...

Did you get the steering box rebuilt? Was it costly?

    • @hibermate

Yep, power steering box fully reco from www.prestigepowersteering.com.au/ - $460 investment.
