Great video! I’ve been an organist for over 40 years and use an older Hauptwerk program on an older Apple computer which I play through a Roland/Rodgers keyboard. I’m adding a yamaha digital piano keyboard for the second and need to get some pedals somewhere. The organ I currently use on the computer is the Hauptwerk St. Anne’s organ which came with the program. A nice church organ sound for a smaller church.
Thank you. You're right about the audio. Normally I mute the audio from the camera and use just the audio from Hauptwerk. But since I had to record my voice I had to use both the camera audio and the audio from hauptwerk. I thought it came out alright considering this.
This is amazing!!! It sounds soooo cool! I love it. I have a pipe organ in my home (6 ranks), Also a 20 stop Ahlborn module and several synthesizers. I may have to add this to my 'inventory'.
Thank you. I have a set of 2.1 Logitech speakers. However, in most of my videos I don't use the sound from the video camera and I dub in the sound from Hauptwerk's own internal recorder. This video uses both so that you can hear my voice.
Richard J. Piper left Willis III in 1949 and came to Austin in Hartford, Conn. He brought those 1934 Willis III solo cellos with him [scales and voicing; not those actual pipes] and used them in many 4-manual jobs at Austin.
Living in England, UK I've been lucky enough to visit most English Cathedrals over time and when visiting Salisbury a couple of years ago I went with friends to the Cathedral for the Sunday Eucharist and the acoustics in the building are fantastic, the organs reverb was actually longer than it sounds in the Hauptwerk Sample set.
Hi Will, well done for this demonstration. I think you had a direct sound input as well as the microphone picking up your speakers. This made the tone of the organ rather harsher than mine sounds. I am also very please with it though my computer cannot cope with most of the stops playing with fast notes.
@Will Scarboro, is it true of Solo Clarinet 8' is the 1877 Choir Corno de Bassetto? Why does the 2020 Harrison Restoration Specification DOCX didn't specify that? I know the Corno de Bassetto is the tenor member of the Clarinet family, but they are not similar to the Clarinet itself.
Great tour! I have the same sampleset and learned some new things to try! I wish MDA would tweak those several squeakers in the solo reeds. The Orchestral Oboe is almost unusable with the trem. which is a shame. Same thing goes for the Cor Anglais. I don't need the realism of "broken notes." :)
I have not heard anyone talk about whther or not louvers to stiffle the sound of pipes behind them are part of these sample sets. I imagine that would have to be manipulated "under the hood to speak" with EQ, I am not an organist but I would call the pedal to open and close the louvers "Expression" but I am only guessing.
Hi. I purchased the hauptwerk 3 but I'm finding it difficult to configure it. Can u pls help me out. What other things do I need to purchase? I use windows 10 with 8gig ram
I'll have to take your word on the Oboe since I haven't heard the real one. I don't have any experience with the wind module in Hauptwerk since it is disabled for U.S. users due to possible patent infringement.
This is the Virtual downloadable Milan software.... yes? What program are you running it on, how are you interfacing the Midi keyboard...how much RAM do you need to run it effectively? Are your keyboards part of the package? Sorry for all the questions! ;) Its MAGNIFICENT.
Will, great demo! I just got into Hauptwerk and wanted to know your keyboards set up. What brand? I hope to buy another inexpensive one and stack them like yours. How did you anchor them from moving?
Apparently a U.S. electronic organ manufacturer has a patent for a wind model that is similar to the one used in Hauptwerk. So to prevent any legal liabilities the wind model is disabled for U.S. users. Because of this I don't have any experience with it and I don't know how it impacts the realism of the sample sets.
Nice demonstration. I find the intermodulation which loud speakers produce to be objectionable. I have 5 ranks of real pipes and 9 sampled ranks in my home theatre organ. If I could relive my life I would have all real pipes, no electronics. I like tinkering with the real thing and there is no intermodulation.
Yes, it all sounded OK but if you used headphones instead of your speakers, the recorded sound would been more accurate. I was playing the same stops on my Salisbury organ and the contrast in sound was quite considerable. :-)
Awesome. I must ask though ... what is clicking noises I hear, especially at the end of the video? Is that your fingernails hitting the keys or does Hauptwerk make that sound without a good connection or something? Thanks!
Fantastic!! I've got a Yamaha PSR-K1, similar to your keyboard.... Are you using a MIDI Pedalboard?? And if yes , what trand and it's possibile to connect one to my keyboard?
I have many recordings of the real Salisbury organ including a DVD demonstrating the stops and I have to say the 8 foot oboe on the solo that has apparently been sampled for Hauptwerk does not sound ANYTHING like the real thing! It lacks body, whereas the clarinet is spot on, so I'd like answers from Milan DA. I also wish the wind module was more effective, I've tweaked mine but full organ just doesn't have the same attack as the real organ which in my opinion is Hauptwerk's biggest let down.
I cannot understand this thing about patent infringement for parts of Hauptwerk. Infringement of what? I think if you cannot alter the wind supply etc, Hauptwerk is certainly not as good as it should be. I don't know how the price for Hauptwerk compares in the US compared to countries where there is not patent restriction. I may be wrong about the oboe but all I can say is that the real one on the DVD I have sounds full, the Hauptwerk one sounds thin and lifeless.
EXCELLENT VIDEO DISPLAYING THE VARIOUS TONES OF THE STOPS.
Very natural pipe organ sound, my compliments ! Good job

Totally breathtaking at the end of your demo.Well done!
Further videos answeredd my questions in the firstnote
Update... my 1877 Father Willis volumes 1-3 is in the mail. I can't wait to play it. Great demo.

Thanks for really useful information! Have been considering the Father Willis organ for a long time, but been unsure.
Lovely voicing in all families of tone.....

Father Willis said Salisbury was his favourite organ :)
crash course on Organ stops - informative!
The majority of the reverb is coming from the sample set. I've only added a very light amount of extra reverb.

It is according to the information provided by the sample set manufacturer.

Thanks for your comments. Those "wonky" notes in the solo reeds are a drawback. Besides that the rest of the sample set is great.

This isn't one of the Father Willis Studio versions. It's Salisbury Cathedral from Milan Digital Audio.

where can i buy a midi pedal board in usa?

I bet I can guess who it is! The most unethical fake organ mass-producer out there.
Hello to you personally as a body like the most? The Salisbury or the Hereford? Thank you.

Hi. Very nice sound from this sample set.
Is this the natural reverb or did you apply some IR extra reverb?
can this be used ona mac book pro or and i pad/ is a sound card needed?

:)
Hello, are you using bass pedals during this demo? Thank you, Dave
Will, is Hauptwerk connected by MIDI or by regular usb ?

It still beats the heck out of almost every digital organ I've ever heard.
