      The premium is because of the international shipping costs plus the high quality make of the germania products, their overall appearance certainly surpasses our domestic jm bullion and monumental metal bars. Also the germania mint produces much less bars compared to JM, silver town etc.

    It’s only a bar… pvc effects really don’t matter much in the grand scheme of things. It’s all about the weight. From a straight stacker point of view, their bars and their silver shot are competitively priced, but their rounds tend to be ridiculously overpriced. With that being said… I have to admit that their designs are second to none. Thanks for sharing

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  3 роки тому +3

      Yeah it's only a bar but if one stores that bar with other silver, the PVC could affect that silver too. I'll have more to discuss on the Germania mint at a later time, and one of those points is what you touched on, the premium on the rounds. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Silver Normie, yes I did notice. I believe it's a transitional change and they are starting with their smaller pieces. My physical kilo is stamped 999 while the 100 gram bar I have is 99.99. You have a good eye though! Very helpful purchasing precious metals. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment 😎👊

    @powbambam7791 2 роки тому +3

    Thanks for the video, and I know you are happy they replied to you the way they did. But I must admit I am a bit surprised (and disappointed) that you are not ripping them apart!! Wrapping-up a precious metal (silver) bar...in PVC is flat-out unacceptable! Especially in 2022!!
    And I know you admire that they are "forward thinking". But that's exactly (just) that: i.e. good for...the future! At the moment, they are selling .999 silver ...And they wrap them in PVC! Translation: "We are not ready yet to sell you quality or safety for your precious bars, but we're selling them to you anyways! Thanks for buying!!"
    That's why I really expected the one and only Campbell's coin not to be satisfied with this answer and Rip-Them-Off!
    Not bashing you, as you are (and remain) my favorite precious metal channel. But just quite surprised and wondering if you would consider giving it another thought now that the initial emotion of being happy to get a reply sank-in?!
    I don't own any Germania mint (and won't). But I sadly own IGR's and other bars that are using the exact same plastic. I am super-duper happy that all the bars I got from them were immediately taken off this plastic as SOON as I bought them. But I still have buyers remorse now knowing these 999 bars I own were in contact with this most toxic product for silver. (PS: Not even sure the presence of 'copper' is the real issue here, as I think I've heard chemist stating that silver do react to PVC too)! maybe you could dig into that deeper as well?! (Thanks in advance!)
    WE are in the business of stacking and have a true appreciation for precious metals. But these guys are in the business of: Selling (and will probably operate under a different name in 20 years from now). Let's just never forget that!
    Sorry for the rant here. But I'd love to hear back from you on this.
    Thanks again for the very important video!!

    It’s actually the sulfuric acid in plastics which causes the chemical reaction with silver that is the issue. Some plastics have higher content of sulfur than others and plasticizers are most common used in making plastics less rigid. Even HDPE contains .247% sulfur and that’s the most common type used.
    The thing I’ve noticed with my older Gieger bars is when the seam is compromised that’s the area that will start to oxidize and spread from there.

    As far as I understood silver has longevity of 10k years or more and should over time not lose more than a few grams of its mass. Correct me if I am wrong, but would this not suggest that taking the bar out of the plastic even if it has low PVC would be better? Interesting dilemma to keep "naked" in the box or to find out "how PVC" would influence it over 10-20 years?

      That's a great point, if one is still concerned, they can cut them from the plastic and store them in an airtite. I know they test the plastic wrapping but I'm not sure how well they test the raw silver in their boxes. Ink and the content of the paper box can affect the silver just as much as PVC. The plastic at least keeps a barrier there for everything. I'll include this in my next round of questions to them and report back in a future video.

And the reading I was doing was from the scientific community NOT the rabble of teen age "experts" who are choking youtube with their professional advice! I think you bought some bars a few days before I bought my latest bars last week but I noticed something odd..... All of the bars I purchased from April thru last week are all stamped 999.9. I’m on the fence with this issue. Wanted to know for future germania purchases what are the risks involved with both leaving the plastic on and taking it off. Is there any cases where the wrapping has ruined anyones Germania products? Will these products sell for less without the plastic, and does the sticker on the back fall off easier without the plastic? If that sticker falls off can it be put back on? I’ve seen UA-cam videos where people both keep them on & take them off. In love with this mint any advise is greatly appreciated!

    What makes a bar better than the other?
    I see Metalor kilo bars are the cheapest. Then Germanium Mint is mid range. Then Pamp is the most expensive.
    These are the 3 bars I'm considering.
    Is it the name brand? If I ever sold a Pamp kilo, I'd get more money back than if I had sold a Germanium Mint kilo?
    I like the Germanium Mint bar but it's super shiny. The Pamp and Metalor look like they are white which I kinda like better.
    If the coin shop is going to give me the same price regardless of the brands, I might just get the Metalor kilo.

    I really like these bars, I just got another one and was pleasantly surprised to see it's 999.9 Fine! I wonder if that will diminish any premium value for the 999 bars? I suspect that in time as people see these Germania Mint bars will command a higher premium than most other bars the same way many Scottsdale Mint bars command higher premiums. I'm curious as to what others think about that.

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately, I think brand will be the deciding factor for premium over anything else. Canadian maple leafs are 99.99 while the ASEs are 99.9 and the ASEs hold a higher premium. I don't believe purity will make a difference unless it's dramatic.

    • @davidfantaci3173

      @@CampbellsCoins I wasn't referring to the purity, but the Brand. I only mentioned my surprise at receiving one of the newer 999.9 bars, not that the extra 9 was that significant. I think Germania Mint bars will earn the same kind of higher premiums such as Scottsdale Mint bars, because they are Germania Mint bars.

    • @brushstroke3733

      My guess is the .999 bars will have an added value over the .9999 bars to collectors, as they will all be first series with "A" serial numbers. The limited number of that first series will likely give them a higher premium over the higher purity bars. Just my thought as a collector rather than a stacker.

      @@CampbellsCoins the 500 gram bars as well as the 10 oz bars had the white layer from the moment I received and opened the package.
      My kilo bars are still in excellent condition. They are stored in my sealed gun safe (by sealed I literally mean the safe is rated “fully submergible up to 45’ underwater”).
      I personally feel like the germania mint wasn’t focused on quality while making the “2nd production batch” of these, rather they were focused on quantity due to the demand. The kilo bars that I have had zero issues with were purchased the same day they became available.
      If you’ve noticed, they have 2 different varieties, we will call them Gen 1 and Gen 2. The Gen 1 was the first production and were made .999 fine. The Gen 2 are the bars that have been available more recently and are stamped .9999 fine. These bars include the 1 kilo, 500 gram, 250 gram, 100 gram, 10 oz, and the 5 oz. Pros for bars is most of the time are closer to spot price and usually less in premium compared to coins, so more wise to stack with bars as it's more about the silver weight price than the collectability when it comes to cashing in.

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  3 роки тому

      This is a great group of questions. I have a video on the back burner on this topic but haven't released it yet. I can give you a summation here. As the viewer commented below, typically, bars will have lower premiums over coins. Since this huge boost in silver demand, this hasn't really been the case, premiums rival that of coins. And by coins, I'm referring to sovereign mints producing their coins, United States Silver Eagle, Australian Kangaroo, Canadian Maple leaf, etc. Bars typically come in a huge variety of sizes for all sorts of wallets. Whereas coins typically are 1oz, 2oz, 5oz, 10oz and the occasional kilo. The 5oz and 10oz coins are not something that is wildly popular, but that depends on the mint. If you were to sell bars, LCS or dealers would give you generic pricing. On coins though, they typically will pay slightly better. Basically, it comes down to personal preference; which do you like more? I have both for different reasons. I'll try to have something soon regarding this topic.
