Pedal Comparison: ProCo RAT 2 vs Boss DS-1

To my ears, the Rat has less high end fizz and is more mod focused compared to the DS-1. It’s probably my new favourite distortion. Thanks for watching

Great video, and nice job tweaking the EQs. I have two Rats (and other distortions). Only thing I didn’t like about the DS-1 when I had purchased one previously was that it doesn’t have mids. Lots of bass and even more treble. Just missing those mid frequencies. Cheers.

Been using the ds-1 since itccame out, have it boosted with a boss super overdrive, cant beat it.

The rat has a little more treble over ds1 that's more muddy I had a rat used in front of my Peavy vypyr amp for solo but it did reduce bass try setting rat at 1/4 distortion 1/4 tone 3/8 volume

I noticed the same thing DS-1 is more of a high gain pedal while Rat is more mod focused and lacks the kick. Both great pedals and require specific songs to each. If I'm not mistaken you had another ProCo too or even a few of those showcased in the past videos?
Hearing 'When I Come Around' was a surprise lol but it has great melody, I think it's a good song too. Mexican Seafood was great and sounded better on the DS-1 imo , you should consider more Incesticide and some rare Nirvana tracks. Awesome video!

Yeah I agree, different pedals good for different purposes. I do like the RAT though, has a certain fuzz quality to it that sounds great when turned up. I think the RAT is my first ProCo pedal actually. I have an MXR but that’s a phase pedal.
Haha yeah neither was I to be fair! It sort of just came to me in the moment and I decided to have a go at it since I don’t play much Pop Punk on the channel, plus both pedals just sort of suit the genre. Mexican Seafood is a great, definitely an underrated album. DS-1 sounds better for Nirvana, the RAT is sort of the sound I’m going after personally if you get what I mean. Have a good one!

They do right, yeah that was my thoughts exactly the DS-1 seemed to suit Nirvana better and RAT goes excellent with other types of bands clearly. Would like to hear more what you've come up with as far as your 'signature' sound goes. That'd be interesting! ;)

Rat seems more low Fi and wild if it make any sense. I like both, but the Rat as some character I cant define. The DS semes to sound more clear
