- Since I began consulting with homeowners across the UK in 2022 Ive seen the planning guidelines published by many local authorities and councils across country. It turns out the best one I have encountered is from Edinburgh, where I do most of my work. This is a link to their guide www.edinburgh.gov.uk/download...
If you want to talk to be about a project anywhere in the UK you can book a consultation here. www.reallifearchitecture.co.u...

As a building surveyor this is a really good guide to follow. Nicely explained Neil.
For me this was brilliant insight - recently purchased a property with a view to having a permitted development single story extension - thanks a million for pointing me to the guide to help to think about bldg principles 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
You are very welcome. I’ve had reason to despair at the planners in Edinburgh over the years but they got this one absolutely right.
Very interesting, thanks for explaining and sharing this information
No problem
I am an architect in England and I completely agree with Neil. The documents produced in Scotland are more informative than those produced in England.
Great video.
👍

Hi,
Love your videos! Very informative, your expertise shines through!
Q: if you have bushes between your neighbour and your property, do you measure 45° from the fence or bushes?
Thanks.
From the legal boundary, wherever that is. It won’t always be a physical object, such as a fence. Beware also that fences move over time and won’t always represent the legal boundary
