Apparently I am dumb. The gain adjustment is done by holding down the center button. I gave approval even without this feature. So this is a bonus. All hail Captain Hindsight.

Interesting, then why would it function like you described past 80? Seems limiting if for example between 81 and 82 there's too much of a jump and you'd want a volume setting in between
@Not Sure lol
Thanks for the 58X shoutout! They never get the love they deserve
Omg you got me excited with those red caps over the RCA I thought those were speaker outs
Not sure why its so dark. I will check the settings on the camera.
You should really get on your editor. He’s starting to slack off.
@@brocklewis7624 he doesn't edit, or have an editor.
@@Nihil660 (that's the joke)
@@brocklewis7624 oh ok
I think it looks nicer like this, not so blown out.
With the remote, hold the "amp" button for 3s to change volume/gain on the amp. Hold down "dac" for 3s to control dac functions, using menu button.
Which button is it for "gay club janitor" 😂
Having auditioned the recently reviewed Topping D70S MQA which I found warm, dense, detailed without the abrasiveness of a D50S, how would you compare the Gustard X16 against the D70S MQA? I find I like detail with separation of instruments. The D70s gives a bit less separation but adds more body in comparison to other AKM designs I have heard via 2 channel speaker listening. Is the X16 using dual 9068 sounding similar tonally to Topping D50S? Thx.
I bought the stack about 2 months ago and I love it. I prefer the sound of the H16 over the THX 789 amp. My GL2000 headphones will arrive later this week so I get to test the H16 as I understand the GL2000 likes the juice.
What did the GL2000 sound like on this stack? Thinking of buying all 3
H16 or Jotunheim 2/Asgard 3? Looking for a good replacement for my Atom but also don't want to spend the $ for a Singxer SA-1 right now.
Still unanswered, iems ? floor noise ? high impedance ? (DT 880 600ohm), hard to drive ? (susvara)
Needs to be a rule that DT880 is on the table if we are talking about an amp claiming a ton of power.
True
@@Nihil660 The dt880 (600ohm) doesnt need ton of power, they need higher output impedance (around 75ohm) to sound at their best :), to achieve ratio of 1/8. 880 are oldschool headphones. There is high chance that true reason Zeos liked it from the emotiva was not because of the mW but because of a higher output impedance of the emotiva.
@@matusjurcik6974 aah okay. I thought they were simply the hardest to drive
@@Nihil660 oh really?....Ok

I miss when you used to review things, now I feel like I'm 10 minutes in and you've rambled about nothing in particular. Still enjoyable, bit not quite the same.
that 30 min youtube money
Ah yes the volume control rabbit hole. Stepped ladder attenuator with audio note tantalum or vishay foil resistors is a good place to start.
is the pre output on the H16 always on, or is der a switch for it?
I frequently still hear people talk about Sabre DAC "glare". People just repeat stuff. 3.5 pro was offered as a choice of swappable cable ends when I ordered an IEM recently, as well as usb-c.
gotta love Dunu
I bought one, but I have a doubt, is it normal for the screen to constantly show pcm 44.1 khz regardless of the file you put via usb?
The thing is that I am trying different mp3 flac DSD files but when playing the screen it shows pcm 44.1 and in MQA 352.8 KHZ it should not show the information of the file being played? Since it shows the configuration of the DAC on the PC
If it was sent to me damaged to return the DAC
Thank you
Your videos really validate my OCD. My first thought was "shouldn't the DAC be on top...so the BT antenna could be free?" unless, of course, your shelf height is limited in that case, please disregard. My second thought was "aww man, not silver." Also, I literally despise those volume controls. We want KNOBS not a little finger dial.
Nope actually we want relays, which this uses. Knobs give channel imbalance
yeah 28 seconds in, i clicked the xlr link
if they sell cables that expensive, theyre completely invalid to me
Did you test the dt880 on it?
It is an amazing Sabre DAC!!! ESS ES9068S
I see xenoblade chronicles 2 in the background there... nice to see another man of culture.
Where is your Dunu Zen to test this amp?
How does this compare to the RNHP ?
Love your reviews.... But this was frustrating with near zero reviews on the H16 was looking forward to your usual mega detailed review was it just meh for you really? Didn't hear the Zeos excitement on this one...
The X16 though is a must buy!
Yeah starting to think I should return my H16 and just get a SH-9. Seems most reviewers consider them near identical performance and sound quality but there is a noticeable price difference.
@@tcc5750 also consider the Topping A30 pro in the same ish price bracket
Trust your ears, all reviewers are very subjective. I have x16 connected to gustard p26 preamp and to xtz edge a300. My speakers are Ascent Sierra 2. I love the sound. Regards.
At high gain, it is a monster for headphones and powers my fostex and heddphone with no problem. Great sound too connected to my Mojo2. Seems perfect currently
video on that grado mod?
Hi Zeos, are you planning to do review of the new xduoo TA10R and maybe compare it to the old TA10, how it sounds? There are not many reviews of it out there.
All pots have some form of imbalance at super low levels due to physical connections , the difference is that bad pots do it higher up and are also just low quality also 3.5mm TRRS is a standard
I've seen like 4 different pinouts for 3.5mm TRRS. 2.5mm has one
@@Daniel115XD i’ve only saw the one ifi uses which is just normal 😂 but yeah
what happens if you plug a "standard" SE 3.5 in the "3.5 PRO" ???
People will start to die around 🤣
Just got the Topping Pre 90 (cause yes built in volume is ass), and have a new Gustard X26 Pro frickin uber dac on the way.
Sweet gear :o
@@tenveri the Pre is incredible.
That is a nice stack
Is this a better buy than a SMSL SH-9 ? It’s out of stock and I want am amp for my SMSL SU-9.
Yes
Way better mang
I wish the SMSL SU9 and SH9 had bottom feet like the Gustard. SMSL cheapped out again.....
Yeahh, nahh. I have a dedicated knob for my powered speakers for convenience and physical pleasure sake. That's it. Starting to sound like folk are just itching to get more gear (which, hey, I like myself) but I'll pass on the extra pegging (non-urban dictionary one). My Koss 95x's amp also go through the aforementioned knob because reasons.
Zeos, please review Bakoon headphone amps.
17:52 nice beard breauxh
LOL I use a THX AAA One as volume control for my speakers and a geshelli 2.5 pro as my headphone amp
Which is better, the khadas tone 2 pro or the X16 as a standalone DAC ?
X16 chassis alone is about 4x as large with big internal power supply, khadas 2 is surely fine but X16 is better in every way, except that it has no embedded head-amp.
Received the X16 last week (it runs now with a khozmo passive pre amp and xtz edge a2-300 end, and must say it did exactly what I've read in earlier tests.
I switched from the topping E30 (what was already a very good DAC) but whoops what a difference with the x16
And yes this Gustard (what a name..) will be probably my last DAC ever!
Yeah, Right! I said that about my RME ADI-2 and now Im drooling over these.
@@dgregory4178 don't drool, just buy it, sit down, relax and enjoy!
So this H16, Topping A90, Schiit Magnius or Singxer SA1?
singxer looks best but A90 has more power than it
Schiit Jotunheim 2
Zeos have you thought about Austrian Audio Hi-X55?
If Zeus make an open review of the Austrian Audio Hi-X55, he'll be forced to admit that are far better than his Neumann!
@@theodoroschronis2966 Okay let's not make this a religious Headphone war...
Just a Zeos level sense of humour! Of course we all love music and Zeos!
@@theodoroschronis2966 Ah I'm back on board.
Is the gustard x16 circuitry on its balanced outputs really balanced?
The DAC? Yes absolutely.
SMSL SP200 was bad talking about volume pot
Gotta say, I agree with Zeos here. I bought this frickin' thing (I mean, the amp) at beginning of March, but returned it already. It's not bad, but it doesn't do anything better than other amps in the market right now. It's good for what it's supposed to do, but there are too many quirks to tolerate. The volume knob is meh, the 80% threshold for a volume jump is clunky (to say the least), the menu is meh, the controller is meh, the form factor is meh, I mean... it's good, but there are way better options in the competition. A90 for transparency, THX 789 (still good for transparency), SM500 for power, new A50S for small form factor, probably a bunch others for volume knobs, the Singxer SA-1 itself for warmth... the list goes on and on. Only reason I see somebody picking this up is if they really, really want to stack it over another Gustard, which Zeos covered.
Thank you for this. I’m on the hunt for an amp to pair with SU-9 since SH-9 is old out. Was unsure with what options to go with.
@@Harvester88 I have an SU-9, paired with a THX 789. It's good enough. But I also got an RME ADI-2 DAC FS, which I'm going to pair soon with a Singxer SA-1. Honestly, IMO you'd be better off with any other amp - just because this is way too middle-of-the-road for the price. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!
@@Nitrium what about a comparison betweeh H16 and topping a30 pro, in same price level?
One of the best measuring DACs ASR. Weather you'll hear the difference between 121db SINAD and..... like 110db SINAD. I doubt it.
Zeos, you handsome bastard.
logarithmic gain is nice.
06:02: The Lord of the Clicks.
You use all those outside devices. ??? How about normal people that don't have, or understand, all that junk??? I just want to buy something that I can put on my computer desk with some powered speakers that make me say; WOW, that's awesome...
Just plug it into a PSU and turn it on through speakers... And, the headphones... One of the big pluses to me is that extra headphone jack that could save the nuisance of buying an adapter. I grumble, but I watch any of your videos on devices I might have an interest in... Thanks...
I still do think DAC doesn't sounds the same and format matters, BUT I will fully admit that with ok headphones like HD600, good amp like RebelAmp and cheap Zen DAC ($1000 in total) people can realistically feel they got to their end game and just enjoy music.
I like this post as I really like my ZenDAC, was already thinking about upgrading DAC wise AMP wise and am now back to a very happy state of "it's fine".
This might be a bit of a personal question, but are you using the Truebass when you input the RebelAmp?
@@miagi1337 I am not a huge fan of ZenDAC: it lacks key feature that like optical and coaxial in, and was really an I need something NOW. Thing is RebelAmp is a miracle. It not only sounds great on the ZenDac, but also fixed the sound as a pre for my tube amp. The plan was definitely to retire it in 2 weeks after just 3 months of use, but I am currently considering alternative upgrade paths for my system. And yes the way these 3 sounds for just $1000 can be end game for many sound lovers, and far beyond on-board peasants ever imagined sound.
A: for me true bass never had a good impact, most of the time none at all, so what I did put dac in fixed and never touch it again but I do like the fact that starts and stops with my streamer :))
This kind of fuckery is why I just buy the best equipment I can. Then I don’t care about pots, dots, or used butts.
What?? No remote??!!
Fhat
3.5mm balanced in 2021 is for owners of balanced Argons... Prove me wrong

Zeos please stop using this head cam. It is absolutely nauseating. And unwatchable.
He won't. He has been doing this forever. It's like some cheap porno production. This and his snarky attitude is why his channel hasn't grown. In the end we still enjoy some of his reviews and suffer through.
@ConcreteComa sub count and views aren't total growth and are meh at best for how long he has been doing it. I just don't watch his content anymore or listen to demos. What's the point of audio demos through a phone or pc? I just listen to him talk. I DO FIND VALUE in his
stuff, but his overall polish and
production value is garage tier. This is my opinion. Doesn't mean shit to others.
@ConcreteComa John Darko is great as well.
Rather this than the generic tech reviewer soft pink and blue lighting with ultra crispy 4K B-roll and chill electronic bgm having to look at some schmuck's face for 15 minutes type shit, tbh.
Yeah, I get motion sickness from watching too long. Have to treat this channel as a podcast.
ESS Sabres and AKM Chips sound the same, if measurements are below audible. People who drink the koolaid are the only ones who "hear" a difference.
Sound the same yeah but the ESS has the hump, features no, like ESS has native DSD
Ess sounds better to me less wumpy in shitty treated rooms
Sound of Chips? That make no sense dude.
