    Apparently I am dumb. The gain adjustment is done by holding down the center button. I gave approval even without this feature. So this is a bonus. All hail Captain Hindsight.

      Interesting, then why would it function like you described past 80? Seems limiting if for example between 81 and 82 there's too much of a jump and you'd want a volume setting in between

    Having auditioned the recently reviewed Topping D70S MQA which I found warm, dense, detailed without the abrasiveness of a D50S, how would you compare the Gustard X16 against the D70S MQA? I find I like detail with separation of instruments. The D70s gives a bit less separation but adds more body in comparison to other AKM designs I have heard via 2 channel speaker listening. Is the X16 using dual 9068 sounding similar tonally to Topping D50S? Thx.

      @@Nihil660 The dt880 (600ohm) doesnt need ton of power, they need higher output impedance (around 75ohm) to sound at their best :), to achieve ratio of 1/8. 880 are oldschool headphones. There is high chance that true reason Zeos liked it from the emotiva was not because of the mW but because of a higher output impedance of the emotiva.

    I bought one, but I have a doubt, is it normal for the screen to constantly show pcm 44.1 khz regardless of the file you put via usb?
    The thing is that I am trying different mp3 flac DSD files but when playing the screen it shows pcm 44.1 and in MQA 352.8 KHZ it should not show the information of the file being played? Since it shows the configuration of the DAC on the PC

    @Nitrium 3 роки тому +3

    Gotta say, I agree with Zeos here. I bought this frickin' thing (I mean, the amp) at beginning of March, but returned it already. It's not bad, but it doesn't do anything better than other amps in the market right now. It's good for what it's supposed to do, but there are too many quirks to tolerate. The volume knob is meh, the 80% threshold for a volume jump is clunky (to say the least), the menu is meh, the controller is meh, the form factor is meh, I mean... it's good, but there are way better options in the competition. A90 for transparency, THX 789 (still good for transparency), SM500 for power, new A50S for small form factor, probably a bunch others for volume knobs, the Singxer SA-1 itself for warmth... the list goes on and on. Only reason I see somebody picking this up is if they really, really want to stack it over another Gustard, which Zeos covered.

    I still do think DAC doesn't sounds the same and format matters, BUT I will fully admit that with ok headphones like HD600, good amp like RebelAmp and cheap Zen DAC ($1000 in total) people can realistically feel they got to their end game and just enjoy music.

It not only sounds great on the ZenDac, but also fixed the sound as a pre for my tube amp. The plan was definitely to retire it in 2 weeks after just 3 months of use, but I am currently considering alternative upgrade paths for my system. And yes the way these 3 sounds for just $1000 can be end game for many sound lovers, and far beyond on-board peasants ever imagined sound.
