The "Shine" mtv was in tribute of the song's 25th anniversary. It was composed by a lady named Trina Belamide and originally recorded by Regine Velasquez. It has an inspirational feel to it. When Mori sings an OPM (Original Pilipino Music) standard like Shine, it becomes current.
It was originally recorded by Ima Castro and cover by RV in 2004
What’s crazy is that she was real sick on the second performance. They were late to the wish bus and they didn’t want Mori to do it. You can actually see her mouth the words “we did it” at the end of the song.

Its a cover song. And actually the song was intended to God. The original singer is referring to God, when she found her faith that gives meaning to her life.The wishbus performance was the day when an earthquake hit Metro Manila(Philippine capital), just minute before she went inside the bus. The quake stops for while, a moment they took the chance to finished performed the song. Luckily no aftershocks happened while her performance is on going inside😁, she is so professional that she managed to composed herself and delivered the song so perfectly😊

Whenever I’m not having a good day I always listen to Morissette to make the day a little bit better. Something about her voice that gives me that homely feeling. I interpreted this as a worship song where the message of love and guidance from God. Yeah she’s a very special artist and a very special human being with the lord by her side.

Every time I hear someone hear this song for the first time and infer romance I am first shocked. With my age (71), and the culture I grew up in, I immediately recognize the religious language of piety and salvation. Others, many younger, are not as familiar. The clue is when she gets to “…the darkness aside.” Great song. Morrisette always interprets the song marvelously. She is world class with honest spiritual intention.

I also like watching your reactions and listening to your comments, how you interpret the songs and their messages, and, of course, how you appreciate the artists, such as Morissette. 🥰
Just to give you some background info based on what I've also read, "Shine" is an original composition of a Filipino songwriter Trina Belamide and her entry for the 1996 Metro Manila Popular Music Festival (Metropop) where it won 2nd Place. It was originally interpreted by Filipina singer Ima Castro. It became a hit when "Asia's Songbird" Regine Velasquez did her rendition in 2004. In celebration of the song's 25th anniversary in 2021, Ms. Trina chose Morissette to do another rendition of the song.
For me, the Wish Bus performances are, most of the time, the best. Because of the audio and video quality, and we know these are live performances, one-take, no autotune, which showcase the real talent of the singer. I agree with you, Ryan, about your comments on the Wish Bus. They've gone a long way since they started around 2015. The band was the 3rd Avenue, led by musical director and bassist Adonis Tabanda. He also had a vlog about this performance. If you noticed at the end of the song, Mori mouthed "We did it!" and that's one of the things we adore about her. For her, every performance is an accomplishment, because she always gives it her best, and she always acknowledges those people with her, not just herself, and Adonis has seen that through all the many years he's been working with her, and he appreciates that very much. 🥰

I love all these versions, there is another from when she just moved into her new home, try it go Morissette 107.5 behind the whisper SHINE, will have to check that I have got it right, if not I will correct it, now the wish bus version with Mori's music director Adonis Tabanda on base he is good, found it, it's Morissette Amon SHINE behind the whisper wish 107.5 love this version it's even more powerful if that's possible, she made Regine Velasquez proud.

Hi guys! Always love your Morissette deep dives! I just wanted to point out that Morissette produced some wonderful songs during Covid. The Philippines like so many other places was hit hard yet she managed to keep creating. That is what great artists do....create art....under any conditions. Morissette is a singular artist!

FYI, SHINE is an OPM composed by Trina Belamide in 1996 and was originally sang by Ima Castro as well as by Sweet Plantado in the Metropop live performances and won Second Place. RV cover it in 2004. Better research first before spreading lies.
