Very helpful thanks Tom!, I used the Google Drive option, as expected I had to make a few corrections but so much easier than retyping. Your videos are concise and easy to follow, keep up the good work!
wow this is so helpful!! im also disappointed that in 2022 our handwriting to typed text conversion is still really lacking when it comes to scanning our paper written notes. i feel like this would be easily curbed by apple if, like setting up siri and programming our voice, we were made to write out and scan some specific sentences so the programs can better understand our handwriting. Any way, in the meantime, this should be really helpful so thank you!
Very clever, Tom! I love figuring out stuff like this and enjoy seeing others doing the same. My scanner box was an inexpensive one that I found on the USA Amazon but they shipped it to me in Australia. It's cardboard and has some 'fancy' sticky foam things so you can align your phone up perfectly in future once you've found what works. The only issue (which the one you showed won't have that problem) is that it can be too dark inside the box. I sorted that out with a small torch/flashlight. But the addition of the Rocketbook cutout and app is pure gold. ❤ The only Rocketbooks I could find that ship to Australia are American ones that are in their paper format. Ideally I'd need A4 and A5 sizes for scanning my own papers.
Can you make a video that shows how to convert Rocketbook notes to the Notes app on iPhone? I’m sure there’s a solution using the Shortcuts app but can’t figure it out!
Experimenting using microsoft lens to scan to photo (so I have an original copy) then using readwise app to convert to text. Then it can be sent straight into obsidian
Tom, you are a Guru for all these topics related on handwriting and digital convertion, you are a great Master. Thank you for your suggestions :-) Best regards from Italy - Fabrizio
Could you create a custom template in reMarkable, that incorporates the Rocketbook QR (maybe as a graphic clip)? Then you wouldn't need the cut out overlay...
Not sure if you know, but Rocket Book has free printable pages. So you could print those out and write on them or try the same cut-out technique for almost free.
Tom, I like that. I tried placing my cutout page inside a plastic sleeve. Taking the picture was a little harder because of unwanted reflections, but it still worked. However, the OCR transcription to printed text does NOT work so well as when the frame is NOT in the plastic sleeve.
Awesome tips! Thank you! I hate the feel of writing on my pocketbook (the give of the paper), but I do like everything else about it. It doesn't translate my text very well though; I guess I have to write neater.
If you were doing a whole notebook (for example - a novel written by hand in a book) then 1/ Is there a way of doing page after page of this (maybe hundreds) and having them in the right order? 2/ If you have already scanned in the pages, then is there anyway of using your hack without re-scanning them all in one at a time? I too looked for a good way to do this for my novel a good while back (ie take an already written notebook and turn it into type), and ended up giving up, because none of the OCR systems worked very well. Will be very interested to see if this does the trick. All the ones I tried had so many errors, it just wasn’t worth it.
@@paperlessmove To improve your setup a bit the scanning box could have a glass sheet close to the paper with spacers underneath. The rocketbook app scans pages sequentially pretty fast (as you actually demonstrated in the video so I guess Stuart Brown didn't watch it all) so you could do a book of handwritten notes ..."quicker" Also, no need for a rocketbook. Any notebook in the oven will blank with those pens!
I was wondering this work with traditional cursive handwriting with a forward slant?Like for example using the Palmer Method for writing where there is a 45 degree slant and joining strokes plus ascenders and descenders?
Hi! downloaded the rocketbook paper and tried the hack you introduced but didn't work. It doesn't convert it to text. Just scan it as it is. Do you have to have the actual page from the rocketbook in order to work? thank you!
This is great. Thank you. I have 3 notebooks full of notes that I am trying to get into digital format and I don't want to take a month to type it all out because of my busy schedule. It's hundreds of pages. The Rocketbook way seems to be the best according to your video. I am not sure how you got those Rocketbook sheets for scanning? You said that those items and the weird box cover were linked below. I was having trouble finding them. I apologize for that. Also, how does Rocketbook fare with poor handwriting? Thank you in advance, the content is great and I'm no subscribed.
does scribble convert any words or letters? or it must be in english or common language ? because i write in short and my mother tongue is rare and want to know if it will work for my class notes
Did you try Google Lens ? Would you then even require Rockeybook apart from auto organizing/tag feature, which can be overcome by no-code tools nowadays, would love to know what you think about this
I came here because my job is to "overtype" handwritten texts all day. I receive pdf scans of handwritten documents (some of them 7 pages and more) and have to typ them into the CRM - takes me hours and would be much faster if I just could copy past them with writting myself. I am hopefull to find a solution online to speed up my work amount/work flow
Good point! And I actually built a frame out of cardboard but didn’t add it to the video. Probably using some wooden frame and put the Rocketbook frame on top would work best.
Hi @TomSolid, I also like my rocket book. One thing I wish I could do, is keep my diagrams while converting my handwriting into typed text. People can't read my handwriting, and the OCR only captures the text in an unformatted way. I really need both, any way to do that?
Good question. To my understanding it will only convert your text. If you forward it to tools like Evernote, you can keep both though while still being searchable. 👍
Dear Tom, I am looking for software to convert old letters written in German to text. Do you have any tips for 1) scanning and converting hand writing to text, 2) preferably the best one for German. Many thanks AK
Thanks! It seems only for English, French and Spanish rocketbookhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018864774-Is-the-Rocketbook-App-Available-in-Languages-Other-Than-English-
I agree! I was shocked to find out that there are no proper solutions to this. I think Rocketbook as a company should focus more on their software solution and provide a Frame that makes all this easy out of the box. I actually built an MVP for them in this video :D
This is so much further than I thought we’d be for handwritten notes conversion. Then I saw the box, and the iPhone and the remarkable AND… have we come any closer in a year to a more streamlined application?
Thank you very much Tom for the share! I wondered if A4 ready to print pdf rocketbook page ready to print would work. There are free A4 pdf rocketbook online ready to print and use but they don't work
This is still to fussy. Streamlined. Steps removed. Write it on paper or on top of a pdf. Tap to convert text. Grammarly check. Save. Done. Searchable. Both handwritten note text and pdf text. Someone has to figure this out! I don't have time for all of these steps. Who can remember all of them anyway. Doesn't allow me to focus on my business. Need a more streamlined process. Opportunity for someone (a developer) to take massive marketshare with a solution like this. I would buy!
Now you can use the iPhone camera on iOS 16 for instant text conversion, even handwriting. Also works if you take a picture. Pretty straightforward forward if you ask us 😃👍
It's all too clunky to me. I'm surprised there's not a better AI driven service by now, that for example can keep your notes formatting PERFECTLY when converting to text. A company has a good opportunity here to be the first to really make it all seamless.
Next time just get to the point without taking much time on unnecessary stuff. Most of the people who come here just want quick and direct guides not much details really.

Brilliant hack, Tom - I love it. Now I need to find my Rocketbook notebook to make the frame!

This is exactly what I was looking for, love the ingenuity! Thank you!
Thank you. Can you share the PDFs with the rocketbook pages, to make the frames? It wood be nice 😊
How do you combine handwriting with digital usability?
Experimenting using microsoft lens to scan to photo (so I have an original copy) then using readwise app to convert to text. Then it can be sent straight into obsidian
So what if i want to scan in 100+ handwritten documents to excel?

Hi sir I would like to know how I can convert maths equations into latex version ?
Very smart. Loved the way you solved the problem!
Thanks for the easy solution to convert handwriting text to digital usability. This works fine. I will use this if I forgot my iPad :-)
Not sure if you know, but Rocket Book has free printable pages. So you could print those out and write on them or try the same cut-out technique for almost free.
Any tips for scanning an old book that don't have the option to get a digital format. I would like to scan one to be searchable. Thanks!!!
Good question! There are dedicated Book scanners on Amazon. But those I tested didn’t work good at all. Have to do some more research.
Cool thank you 👍👍👍

Thanks for the great tips and hacks, Tom! In the end, it looks the fastest and most productive way is taking note in digital form directly... 😊
You are welcome! And Yes, I agree 😁

@Grant Small oh, no hack for that! :)

Can I covert handwritten notes on paper to editable handwriting on onenote

I tried uploading a clearly written note to Google drive, but there was no option to open as a Google Document. I was trying to from my phone.

You are welcome, Ruthie 👍
Very helpful! Thank you for doing this!
So confused. So if I’m going to need to scan 100 pages how this method effective?
In this case you better use a big scanner from Brother or Epson maybe.
Paperless movement recommends paper based solution and provides afi link 😄
Would laminating the Rocketbook pages cause issues with scanning? Such thin edges will easily rip.
Good point! And I actually built a frame out of cardboard but didn’t add it to the video. Probably using some wooden frame and put the Rocketbook frame on top would work best.
What about supernote? Is it any better?
Thanks Tim . You are amazing!

totally genius!
It's awesome!
What size Rocketbook page was used for the Remarkable?
Probably the Letter sized Rocketbook 8.5x11", because the Remarkable is 10.3 inches and the Executive size Rocketbook is 8.8 inches.
That so much, great idea!
thank you so much for your channel!! does this work with other languages /

Am I missing something ?
Typing is quicker than handwriting.....
Why would you bother handwriting, and then correcting the converted text ?
Hi Tom ever tried smart pen such as moleskine?
I actually already bought it for review. :) Video coming soon!
What are your thoughts regarding the Moleskine compared to the Livescribe pen that also records audio?
GENIUS!!! THANK YOU!!
