I was in my teens in the early 80’s when FGO staged a production of Un Ballo In Maschera. It was Pavarotti, Cruz Romo and Milnes. What a glorious production it was. I still remember how mesmerized I was.
OMG, she is Awesome, I just love her. The voice so even at lower and upper register and a breath control. She to me is a lot better then some very famous singers, so much emotion and honesty. Can't get over her. I am silent.
Aside from the stunningly gorgeous voice, she illuminates the stage with a very rare presence which I can only describe as authentic, charming, sweet...beautiful.
I studied with her at the University of Texas and she was wonderful. I am so glad to get to see and hear her in her prime, fabulous singing and a diva but in the best way. I would love to know the names and composers of the songs in Spanish if anyone knows them. We don’t have singers like her anymore. Brava!
I was lucky enough to sing with her in the Dallas Opera Chorus when she performed Aïda with Marilyn Horne and James McCracken. In the Act I confrontation/love triangle scene between Aïda and Amneris, she and Horne absolutely chewed up the scenery with their ferocity. She also sang the "Inneggiamo al Signor" from Cavalleria Rusticana during our Christmas concert at the new Dallas City Hall with Rescigno conducting and the ageless Roberto Benaglio as chorus master. Her ringing high B at the end nearly shattered the new glass skylights! ca 1978 or'79. She could sing anything, yet offstage she was incredibly modest and humble. I loved her!
MARAVILLOSA, ESPECTACULAR EN CADA ESTILO QUE ABORDA. UNA DE LAS MEJORES CANTANTES DE ESTE SIGLO. GRACIAS DIOS MIO POR PERMITIRNOS ESTE DELEITE.GUTICARLO 100
She is sensational - from Le Villi to Macbeth to Adriana. Have you ever heard anything like this? I wonder what Callas would have said - probably speechless at the wonder of it too!

she was one of the wonderful ones.
I heard her name mentioned a lot, but never heard her until now. What a warm, rich voice. Wonderful. And so much heart.
Like Miss Haversham, I sit here watching my old videos on UA-cam.
My teacher, I adore you!

What a brilliantly artistic technique. Thank you for posting!
Amazing singing. It's too bad that we don't have singing like this today.

la última Diva de la ópera en México.....hermosa mujer... voz incomparable!
Absolutely the best mexican soprano, beautiful voice, a real diva
I saw Gilda in Guadalajara, in 1984 in Turandot. Spectacular! In 1985, she returned in concert and brought down the house with "La luce langue."
There is no doubt that she was a very great singer. Worthy to be placed among the very best interpreters.
Such a free and easy vocal emission...Seems effortless...
she sang Aida with WNO in the very late sixties or early seventies ( circa 1970) and was fab
Stunning!!!!
I always loved this lady, but forgot over the years how very great she was. Why on earth she never made some recital disks???? BRACA

Musa! Sirena! Divina!

I don't know precisely how Marianna Barbieri-Nini sounded like when creating the role of the Lady, but this rendition is quite something! Bravissima.
Wonderful voice~! ...curiouse though...what's with the dove? lol.
Whoops - that was intended to read, "BRA-V-A!

I believe Callas would have been pleased and complimentary; she gave credit where it was due, IMO.
