This is why I genuinely love TTT, so much of this hobby is people being angry or complaining about one thing or another, it’s nice to go to this channel where a bunch of friends are supporting each others hobby journey and having fun.
6th or 7th edition, when the chimaeras' armour was paper thin on all sides except the front ... which was cardboard thin! I believe it's pronounced 'KAS-er-kin', so you were pretty close. As a Space Wolf player (and Salamanders later on), Steel Legion became my favourite Imperial Guard army because of the Wars for Armageddon background. They do also have Yarrick, the first actual named character to appear as a model with rules (along with Ghazghkull) in 40k.
Very nice looking Steel Legion army Murray, hope to see you work on the things that are not yet finished in future videos as it is such a cool army. I like this video format, it is nice to hear you rant a bit about different stuff from time to time.
19:10 - The lore about "fighting inside the factories", is based on the sturmtiger.. wait, no I mean, it's based on the battles at Stalingrad Tractor Factory, where the workers were building tanks right to the point the Germans reached it, and other similar events in that city where workers would finish a tank or vehicle and it would roll immediately to the frontline to fight.
Thanks Murray for showcasing your Steel Legion collection ! Really loved the format. Passion, creativity and patience to build projects stretching out for years is what the hobby really is !
That is so awesome. I just printed out a bunch of Leman Russ Mars tanks, and printed some Rogal Dorns, and printed some Malcarious super heavies, for a 2000 point all tank list. And I'm all painting them as Steel Legion.
Love the steel legion army of yours. I have a steel legion as well. Been working on it for 6 years. I converted a lot of mine into the different weapon teams, I even made a 5 man rough rider squad on jackal dirtbikes
Really enjoying these podcast-ish types of videos. Fun to see what really inspires the different members of TTT and their passions for their unique armies. I find your thoughts and insights on news and releases related to WH interested and would like to see these discussions like you did on the Tau release continue
i started steel legion long ago. i quit 40k for several years and sold all the tanks, but not the lovely metal miniatures. today i have two full platoons of infantry (5 squads and one command per platoon) so i can play with six squads in chimeras mechanized, or with 100 infantry plus some kasrkin or scions for the average armored platoon. i always loved the 2nd and 3rd edition metal miniatures, lovely hand sculpts, so steel legion was and still is my dream 40k army. i built mortar teams from the big metal mortars which came with valhallans for example, swapped lascannons to autocannons, gave them flamers, melter and even sniper rifles, and found ways to repurpose the missile launcher teams from which i still have 10 or so... and finally grenade launchers got playable, which made me happy. back than a steel legion squad came with 6 rifle guys and one sargeant, neither grenade launchers nor missile launchers had any use which made the metal regiments even more expensive. missile and grenade launchers along sergeants were worth nothing and we had to find a use for them. i currently rebuild my tanks and some more troopers with flamers. i dont have to make flamer guys, i got 4 together, and for the catachans in chimeras they can just be run with only rifles with no difference, but i want to.
Love these vids guys, would happily sit and listen to you chat for a couple hours like table top time role-playing while I paint, honestly make more and longer!! X
I love seeing and hearing about unique personal army collections, the passion for them is very motivating/inspiring and can spark ideas for others. I love the videos and keep up the great work you guys are doing, I can't wait to get hobby motivation/inspiration from ARCFEST this weekend.
Loving the new video format! It's great to get some thoughts about what goes into the planning and themes of your different armies. It DOES make a great background track for when I'm sitting at the computer sculpting all day.
13:32 I know the feeling. I printed ARF Helmets for some of my Phase I clones the week before they announced that ARF clones will be getting released next year. Gotta love the AMG release schedule for Legion.😂
28:20 I don't know why they didn't just put him ontop of a knarloc (the lessor ones not a greater knarloc). knarloc riders have been a thing in lore for ages, I was suprised they didn't get brought back with this
I love this format, it's relatable and interesting. I think it is cool to get to know your private hobbylife, viewpoints and personality a little bit more.
Last week's Poorhammer podcast was all about the minimum stuff a codex should have, and the number of detachments was a big issue they flagged. Should be a minimum of 6.
Just like rhe last episode, I love this new format! Would love some in depth painting tutorials though. Especially some Chaos space marine painting turorials 😊
This is an enjoyable segment, and I’d definitely like to see this kind of content more. Something that isn’t done on any (that I’m aware of) UA-cam channels, is showing your army, and talking about the history and lore (I’ve been in the hobby for 25 years-fellow Aussie). Keep up the great content 😊
I love this format of just hanging out and gas-bagging about what ever, Mrs Dola got me tau box for my birthday (how good is that book box and those data cards with the metallic blue agh so good) as soon as i seen the darktide box i wandered what your thoughts were Dave. Muz you gotta make that army a reality. I've always preferred vids about what you guys like and are exited to do. I don't care if you only paint half a model ,hell just kit-bashing something and putting a zenithol on it, in a vid and it goes over multiple vids if your exited to be building and painting it.
I used to love the random boxed games they used to make, like Assassinorum: Execution Force, and Deathwatch Overkill, so I'm happy to see that sort of return in the form of the Darktide game. I don't know that it's a cash grab though, but rather a gateway game to get the videogame players on the tabletop.
Loved this episode which I get the whole rether paint single minis they assemble an army of simualar dudes... Like what I enjory most of the TT game hobby is the game creation aspect of it, then unboxing and comparing models.
Hey enjoying the new direction with these longer form discussions. Ya'll are a great cross section of the average hobbysists bringing different tastes, style, and experience to the table. A big part of this channels appea is the three of you as individuals (and Jazza is included if we have to....I guess haha). These sit down chats are enjoyable while hobbying and I don't think "short attention span" style youtube really reflects the sort of people coming to channels like yours. Obviously it will take some time to find a "format" or the flow that you like but by nature of having spent lots of time together I think a style and format will come very easily for you. Set a primary topic, set up some repeat subtopics ie News Roundup, and aim for 45min- 1 hour to talk, easy mark to hit even if not much to chat about, but if you are really hitting your flow and its a good discussion you won't have trouble going over an hour and your listeners won't mind coming along for the ride. The channels custom jobs are neat but clearly it is exhausting to continually produce, and I am of the opinion that good discussions have longer legs than the one off builds all over youtube. There are podcast style channels in this space but overall it is untapped compared to the flood of "warhammer" channels. Also when is the video focusing on the Murray Method going to be made? Heck make everyone try to emulate each others painting style. After all this time ya'll probably know each others style pretty well. Stock up on grime effects. Or get all three of you to paint one model 3 ways and then have your big chat about that, murray and Jazza talk on it was insightful and would love to see all of you get in on it.
Ok for the plasma destroyer I had the same problem for my kit bashed preatorians I used a war hound titans plasma destroyer and blended it with a mix of targeter computer like bits with a spare base wire and plasticard
I would have thought that Commander Farsight would have had a separate detachment. And those Solar Auxillia HH vehicles would make great additions to Murray's Steel Legion army that was featured this episode.
Weird! I was watching Murray's Steel Legion videos earlier today, and now a new Murray's Steel Legion video. My personal theory about some of the Codexes having only four detachments is that those ones will be getting a second book like the Psychic Awakening books. Agree with you lads about the non-Krootox mount. An all Kroot army is one of my dream armies, and I am already trying to think up alternatives.
I cant wait to see the rumored Krieg range and what you guys will do with them for Traitor guard and Steel Legion. Should be plenty of conversions on the horizon for the channel. Also really enjoying this format, especially as a continual series. Definitely has the EoB vibes that I like from their weekly vids. I love the new Kroot range, the models are really nice. However, I think if GW is trying to sell Tau as this unifiied faction of different races, you would think Kroot would have some level of Tau tech at their disposal whether that be weapons, armor, and vehicles. They shouldnt look as primitive as they do. Dave I think thats something you should take advantage of and convert them with your custom scheme, just a thought
Like the format. Finish those tanks for the Steel Legion and many create some Steel Legion Organs or Ratlings, whilst they might not quite fit the theme it would be a great conversion video...
I love the steel legion I've only been in the hobby for 5 years I wondered why they only have the cadians. Helsreach was my first book that got me into the hobby and I have play templar and militarum. Hopefully they come out with more regiments
There was a period when both the metal Kasrkin and Storm Troopers were available. I picked up a handleful of both new in store when I started collecting IG as a kid during 4th Edition. Not sure how long it was before the Storm Troopers were discontinued and then eventually replaced with the newer Scions. Yeah, the T'au Codex only having 4 detachments is a pain. The only upside being that at least all four are decently viable to actually play. Would have been nice to have a couple more options though.
I feel like stormtroopers definitely fell off before scions - I remember scions replacing kasyrkin but I am almost certain stormtroopers went maybe 5th edition?
100% agree on liking tau and not really liking kroot. I like your way of integrating the different species into the sept. I just wish they had some more different species rolling out with this like new vespid and humans 😅
I was kind of disappointed that the Lone Spear wasn’t riding a Kroot Form, especially as Knarlocs used to be a thing. However the exciting part is that it confirms that the Kroot use non-Kroot Forma, which opens up a ton of options for lore-friendly conversions. I’d love to make the Marshcrawla Sloggoth a fun platform for instance
21:55 The datacards have a huge problem: the two decks inside the box haven't exactly the same length, so you can't make one big deck without seeing the difference.
A drone based formation would be great for tau. Those giant drone turrets, maybe a new tank type that launches loads of drones. The sniper drones, shield drones etc
Yes! Some love for the original (and best) Killzone! Although I'd have thought the Helghast Squad Cannon would be more like an autocannon (yeah it's not actually an 'auto'cannon', but it's big and fires a big shell like a 40K autocannon. Rico's chaingun is probably more like an assault cannon IMO. I just love these hig hip-fired guns. Shame we don't get many opportunities to model them in the 'guard
Rly a fan of the format, nice both as background and sorta informative for hobby "casuals" who dont follow everything GW releases. Would love to see just one or two shots of the entire steel leagion / Sisters / traitor guard, in one shot (just the one highlighted that week)
27:24 I completly agree. It especially bothers me because forge world already at one point came up with the knarloc riders. where they where rideing on some kind of velociraptor kind of kroot dead end species. I was really lowkey hopeing for plastic knarlocs, but no! Wandering circus we got.
totally agree with the tau detachments. i feel kauyon and montka are mutually exclusive, im not sure someone can change their playstyle to be the exact opposite. ret cad is the right level of niche for a detachment, the kroot one also but that one might be too niche for some players. so for any given player, theres really only two detachments to choose from (montka or kauyon and ret cad). as you said have an armoured force, have a scout/stealth force, have a guevesa force of guard with tau weapons
Great video format. Keep doing more like these sharing personal armies and stories. Im waiting to get my Damned models from wargames atlantic, then i will start a traitor guard army. HERESY!!!!
Would absolutely love you 3 to do a "tale of 3 gamers" series when Age of Sigmar 4 comes out. Each pick a NEW army and each video add a small part to your armies BUT each army needs to be highly personalised, conversions and unique paint schemes etc. Like a Cities of Sigmar with a viking aesthetic or Arabian or something or even an all female Cities of Sigmar crusade. Skaven with a pirate or samurai scheme. Soulbright Gravelords that have a different cultural setting than the typical look. Get your creative juices flowing as you plan, personalise, put together and slowly paint up forces over a period of time. That would be my favourite series type you could do!
I was dismayed at Dave's decision to not give the Sakura Sect, to a Kroot detachment, but interested in what Murray's idea for the Kroot. I also think murder chickens, is the best name for the Kroot.
would 100% love to see some vids on completing the old steel legion models, they have so much character in them
I just can't get enough of Murray's Steel Legion, keep it up man!
This is a great format, I like that I get to see all the news PLUS some projects of your own that actually make me want to finish my armies!
Wow those steel legion tanks look FANTASTIC!

I love the new mix, some painting and some storytelling! I totally had this one playing while I was crafting!
I concur. Nice to have some hobby talk goin' on while I paint. I do enjoy the longer form of this talk video
You should never get rid of old models - you should just add more to them. Also; teats need sealing. Never be ashamed of that fact.
Thanks Murray for showcasing your Steel Legion collection ! Really loved the format. Passion, creativity and patience to build projects stretching out for years is what the hobby really is !

Love the new chatty format.
And definitely agree with Dave, finish the tanks and add to the army, rather than start again 👌
I adore this new format, keep it up !
Love the pod-casty vibe 😄👌
You should call these style videos "Tabletop Talk"
Tabletalk time
Definitely would love to see it being added to. The original steel legion army looked so cool.
Love the steel legion army of yours. I have a steel legion as well. Been working on it for 6 years. I converted a lot of mine into the different weapon teams, I even made a 5 man rough rider squad on jackal dirtbikes

Great video … love the banter… really want to see the steel legion brought up to date and your tanks finished … thanks for sharing 🍻👍
Somewhat new to the channel. Love it. Had it on in the background while painting this morning while family slept. Great stuff!
I really love this format of videos! Please keep doing them 😍
Around 10:30 I love the dude who's doing the "God and Anime" pose.

Awesome hahha
I never comment but I will for more Steel Legion content! They’re my favorite regiment and seeing you make more would be awesome
I'd love seeing this army finished. Looks like it would be amazing to see.
This video format is great. Lots of clips of personal models and the stories of the project

Steel Legion without Basilisks? Heresy! XD
(love the nostalgia video Murray, they were a great subfaction with good sculpts from a fun gaming period)
