Followed your instructions to repair my screeching HP 1320 and it worked perfectly! Had a little difficulty getting the right side panel off because I didn't realize I could simply pry it off and I needed to remove a few extra screws on the back to be able to lift off the top but other than those, it was pretty straightforward. Thanks so much for providing such a clear step-by-step guide to this and helping prolong the life of our durable laserjet printers.

Amazing!! Thank you so much. This solved the problem, and I'm now more emotionally attached to my HP laser printer than ever. I've had it for 24-25 YEARS! Now it's working like a charm. Your instructions were so clear, detailed, and your camera showed every little step. Interestingly, the same tabs that broke on yours, broke on mine--but that's a design flaw. It was certainly well worth it. My laser circuit board was held down by a black plastic tab that rotated to free up the board instead of a white button, but it was an easy task.(Just a tip, you can magnetize any screwdriver by drawing a magnet along the shaft to the end; you have to draw it in one direction only, not back and forth. I did that and had no problem with replacing all the screws in tight places.) Just to let you know, I'm a 75-year-old woman with no computer repair experience--I feel accomplished just to change the ink cartridge.
My wife loves this 25 year old printer. This video showed exactly how to repair the loud noise it started to make. Took about an hour. Works great. Test print was clean and clear. Showed she has printed 40,000 pages. used a flat screw driver to gently lift mirror up. My version did not have way to push mirror up from bottom. used one drop of 3M oil, needed tweeters to replace the little black tab holding the mirror back on circuit board. The plastic tabs on case were all brittle and most broke off. This did not seem to prevent case going back together. Since it was all disassembled, I dusted inside of case and cleaned the rubber paper pickup roller.
I am echoing the person below me - I love this printer and was able to fix it with your help. THANK YOU! On mine the little white plastic button at 15:50 that holds it in was a black upside-down L-shaped. I rotated it to the back and was able to lift out the motor. It did fall out at that point but I slid it back in and rotated it back to holding position no problem. It was tiny, I'd hate to have lost it! I only put oil on the shaft and its hole - was I supposed to also put oil in the groove between the hole and the next concentric ring of metal? I may have to take it apart again in the future, but so far so good! Thank you again!!!

THIS is a really helpful video. It saved my old HP LaserJet 1200 too. It started squeaking today, and I tought it was the death of it. And now it works really nicely again after the repair. I guess, it is nearly impossible to remove the left cover without breaking any hooks after such a long time. But it is stable enough without them. Thank you!
Thanks much for the video! You saved me from breaking the plastic tabs getting the case off. And I never would have expected so much noise could be coming from that little motor -- I would have been looking at the paper moving motor, completely in the wrong place. The fix went fast and it's working great again. The one change I would suggest, though, is it's not a good idea to use cooking oil because it reacts with air and over time becomes sticky goo. I used high quality synthetic oil made for oiling mechanical clocks. If you don't have that, common mineral oil like baby oil is also OK. Use only one drop right at he top edge of the sleeve -- that's all you need!
Worked like a charm! I used gun oil as the lubricant and removed the motor head with large tweezers as to avoid touching the mirror, thx for the video!

I was convinced that I would be shopping for a new printer when I tried to print today and all I got was a loud annoying squealing noise. Paper did not feed and the only way to stop the squealing was to turn the printer off. I googled the problem, found your video, followed your instructions an 15-20 minutes later I was printing away! Dear macdaddypimpping, you should be employed by HP and paid solid remuneration for your splendid and clear explanations. You are a wonderful teacher! I have just repaired my "HP LaserJet 1200 series". But my printer did not make any squealing sound, instead it just suddenly, from one day to another, stopped printing and all three LEDs on the front lit up permanently (none was flashing, they were all on constantly) when I turned the printer on. I quickly found out that it meant "fatal error" and the advice was to take it to a professional service. I dismantled the printer following your instructions and identified the problem: the same mirror spindle as in your video. It was difficult to rotate it with fingers. I lubricated it with 2 drops of machine oil I use for the blades of a hair trimmer. After inserting it back into place I moved it around and up and down until it started spinning freely. Since the printer was dirty (indeed like a pig!), I washed each element of the printer's plastic casing using a regular washing powder and dried them with paper towels. Now the printer looks and works like new. Also the stifling smell of baked toner is almost gone (I used to open the window in my room when printing). I made one mistake only - when pulling on the USB cable while cleaning it, I accidentally dislocated it slightly out of its socket under the left-hand side cover and was disappointed to see the computer refused to recognise the printer. But as the LEDs returned to normal and the test page printed properly, I guessed where I had blundered. Altogether, a great success! I have already considered buying a new one: HP LaserJet 107 A, HP LaserJet Pro M102 (A or W), HP LaserJet Pro M203 DW (with duplex printing), or the neat novelty HP Neverstop 1000 (A or W). They seem to be excellent printers, so much faster then the HP 1200 dinosaur! Also not as bulky and having smaller footprint. But a replacement can wait. With HP 1200 I have no problems with chipped toner cartridges and the one (a substitute) I bought rather cheaply 2 years ago (!) is still going strong and judging by its weight will print another 6 months minimum (I do not print much).
Good job for following my video and fixed your HP-1200. Believe me, I purchased a new HP Color Laserjet with WiFi and it's not as good as the dinosaur HP-1200.

Mine started making that noise too (seems whatever oil they originally used must have had a operating period of about 20 years). Hopefully mine works for another 20.
After watching this video I was able to do the entire process in under 15 minutes. Thanks for covering all of the screw and clip points, I would have missed a few. The printer worked perfectly after applying a film of lubricant to the mirror shaft.
Thanks for the great step-by-step video, it fixed my problem. A couple of hints, though. It was not necessary (and I didn't manage it) to remove the right hand side cover completely, it was sufficient to pop the top open enough to be able to remove the screws. It's necessary to keep the silver screws apart, the smaller ones are used on the inside fixing the laser unit, the larger ones are for the top cover. An I recommend NOT using any vegetable or kitchen oil, but rather either sewing machine or gun oil. Thank you very much!

A very well done video. Gave me (and my spouse) to go ahead and grapple with the plastic case and lube the mirror motor bearing. Works great so far, and the screeching pig is out'a here!
Thank you. The instructions were detailed and I was able to follow them. And it successfully stopped screeching, when i put it together and switched on. But unfortunately, it doesn't work. It starts up, spins its details for 2 seconds, and then stops, showing all 3 LED indicators glowing steadily. My instruction manual says its "Fatal error". So, it worked but screeched, now it doesn't work at all... I'm sad.

Unplug all cords to the printer except the power cord. Turn it off and on then hold down the go button for 10 seconds. This will reset it to factory defaults.

How to make a reset plzz
Unplug all cords to the printer except the power cord. Turn it off and on then hold down the go button for 10 seconds. This will reset it to factory defaults.
