Benny Hill was an absolute legend. I just loved his saucy humour and all those lovely ladies. He made so many people laugh, so sad how he died all alone in his flat. RIP .

I love Benny Hill, he never fails to cheer me up! His humour was really universal and silly. A lot of his sketches involved him or the little old man trying to score, or at least to see boobs. A lot of very clever double entendres throughout his shows, and some decent slapstick. It's all just innocent and light-hearted humour, although some don't see it that way now.

He parodied Raymond Burr's wheelchair-bound TV detective Ironside several times. In one sketch his cigarette lighter broke and he asked his sidekick, played by a blacked-up Bob Todd, "Do you have any lighter parts?", to which Todd replied: "No, boss, I'm the same colour all over!"

"Vee can no looken for dee sheepen in der rainen" became a thing I'd say to my mum if there was a chore that had to be put off for whatever reason.
Very silly and managing to parody the British perception of Swedish cinema at the time.

Back in the day when me and my missus were courting and she wanted to go out and I wanted to "stay in and watch the telly" I would say that to her. We would have a good laugh over it....... and then go out

You’re possibly too young to be aware, but the final sketch (Benny in the wheelchair) is a rip-off of the 1970s American detective series starring Raymond Burr as “Ironside”. I’m sure you’ll find it on UA-cam if you want to check it out.

He did something similar on BBC in 1965, also on UA-cam, doing Bo Peep in the style of Z Cars, Bonanza and the Tonight programme, with a similar Shakespeare parody. Thanks for a great reaction. Not my favourite one by him, I prefer the shorter skits in fast motion that usually ended in a chase at the end of an episode, but he was good in other ways - very clever with words. From what I understand, he loved re-creating the look and feel of the silent movie genre, (where live sound affects and music were often played to them in front of a live audience) and mixing them with a twist of then modern humour. I read a really endearing story on his wiki page. He'd been a huge fan of Charlie Chaplin and in later life, he was invited to look round the then late Chaplins house by his surviving son. When they went into his private room, his son showed him a stash of video recordings of Benny Hill. Turns out Charlie Chaplin had also been a fan of his in his later years! This revelation apparently moved Benny Hill to tears.
