    If anyone actually watched the entire stream, he struggles quite a bit hitting certain licks that he's hearing in his head and just keep trying until he gets it. That's why this stream in particular was so endearing

      Read the title bro, if he falls off of key twice in 12 bars I would say it would be struggling. He did kill it after the reset though.       Incidentally, C# was based on Java, not C++. Put another way, C++ was the successor to C but C# was not the successor to C++.

      @@razzendahcuben C# was not based on Java. They had similar goals, but it was very much based on C/C++, the same family that Java came from and was very much seen as a potential successor to C++.

    If you’re just learning guitar and want to know how to solo like this, LEARN SOME SCALES!!! Pentatonic is the basic one, then just find a good backing track and mess around with it. Add some bends, slides, and you’ll be going places.

      Learning the pattern 4 blues scale would be a great start. It’s just a minor pentatonic with an added flat 5.

      I’d recommend playing major scales in all 12 keys. Everything is based around it. Pentatonic itself is based around the major scale.
      I’d also recommend spending some free time on music theory.net, great website

      Coderedpirate Sure, that goes without saying. Knowing scales and modes is an integral part of playing, and can be learned over time, no doubt. My comment was more geared towards being able to jump in and jam on a basic blues progression immediately.

    My guitar teacher taught me, numer one: let the solo "breathe" (don't just keep playing and playing, make little pauses), number two: follow the beat, number three: solos go like this, _ask a question, answer it and then create a new controversy_

      For number one, practicing singing along your guitar lines works quite well. My teacher told me horn players all solo with natural spacing between phrases because they literally have to breathe, which can be transferred to guitar playing that way.

      Keep in mind there are numerous blues players many with near-living legend status who are better and who play with rock influences to boot. Mayer is a good pop song writer and is a surprisingly competent blues player but he is definitely not the best of this era. Not even close.

      Of course he ist the first one to ever play the Blues, he invented it and noone ever before him had any kind of inspiration for pieces of music like, say, THIS BACKING TRACK YOU MORON! For real, come on! There has been so much Blues, you got to be kidding. Except you mean he should start a band, write his own music, sell tickets for his shows, record and sell his albums a million times and... oh wait.

    This mans a guitar genius seriously.. i used to hate john Mayer and over the past 5yrs grew too love him hes so versatile and expressive in his guitar playing i love when he plays the blues he goes where no man has gone before and i say to myself how is that possible not sure but he does it everytime im glad hes doing these videos and interacting with his fans. All i can say is god bless john mayer keep on playing that guitar.

    At 2.10 he plays note for note a BB.King V chord lick from BB's 'Please love me' live at the regal. On that record you can hear the lick around 0.12 seconds in.
    They call me Lazer Ears Smith.

    Great upbeat rhythm and I have started solos in the wrong key many times. Sometimes the brain doesn't work right. Love the BB stuff.

      that makes no sense. with many, many hours of practice you should be able to be at least competent with blues. self-defeat is nothing to be proud of.
      blues is about expression, and that is something you can't really teach as it's individual-based. also hearing the value of a single note, like in the bb king style, which is why his style is really important to be exposed to if you want to pursue blues. you don't need to shred, let it breathe, it's soul music.

      quickstep I find it amusing when folks act like players like Mayer are just like any other average Blues player. My point is, that even with many hours of practice I’m not nor would be the equivalent. Their are limits to what practice can do.

    I enjoy watching pro's playing. Because it is as if they are playing with their favorite toy! I can relate to the love of playing an instrument. Love the clean view of his hands! Robbing a few ideas from this one.
