  • Divine attributes mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah are to be affirmed (as understood by the early generations (salaf) of this ummah, namely the Sahaabah, Taabi‘een, and leading scholars) without discussing how or likening Him to His creation, and without denying any of His attributes or interpreting them in a way different from the apparent meaning.
Imam Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Jareer at-Tabari said:
If someone were to say: What is the proper approach with regard to the meaning of these attributes that you have mentioned, some of which are mentioned in the Book and revelation of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, and some were mentioned by the Messenger of Allah (salla'Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)?
Our response is: The correct approach in our view is to affirm the meaning in a real sense, without likening Him to His creation, as Allah said of Himself in the Qur’an: “There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer” [ash-Shoora 42:11]. So we affirm all of the meanings that we said are mentioned in the reports and the Qur’an and the revelation according to their apparent meaning, and we reject any likening of Him to His creation. Hence we say: He, may He be glorified and exalted, hears all sounds, but not through a hole in an ear or through any physical faculty like those of the sons of Adam. Similarly, He sees all people with vision that is not like the vision of the sons of Adam, which is a physical faculty of theirs. He has two hands, a right hand, and fingers, but not in a physical sense; rather His two hands are outstretched, bestowing blessings upon creation, not withholding good. And He has a countenance or face, but it is not like the physical faces of the sons of Adam that are made of flesh and blood. We say that He smiles upon whomever He will of His creation, but we do not say that this is showing teeth (like a human smile); and He descends every night to the lowest heaven.

The Prophet (salla'Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: “Hell and Paradise disputed, and Hell said: ‘I have been favoured with the arrogant and proud.’ Paradise said: ‘What is the matter with me, that no one will enter me except the weak, humble, and downtrodden?’ Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, said to Paradise: ‘You are My mercy by which I will show mercy to whomsoever I will of My slaves.’ And He said to Hell: ‘You are My punishment with which I will punish whomsoever I will of My slaves. And each of you will be full.’ As for Hell, it will not be full until Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, places His foot on it and it says, ‘Enough, enough.’ Then it will be full and all its parts will be integrated together, and Allah will not treat any of His creation unjustly. As for Paradise, Allah will create a creation just for it.” Bukhari & Muslim

Tragically there are some people who claim to subscribe to the ‘hanafi fiqh’ (they are mainly from the south part of a large continent) and they are spreading the view that athari and ash’ari creed nowadays is ‘very close’ because ‘finding’ the ‘pure’ athari creed is very difficult to find today and so it’s ok to stick to ‘ash’ari’ or ‘athari’! The people who are attached to these ‘institutions’ are typically non-Arabic speaking masses who don’t have the expertise to counter these ‘mawlanas’ and tell them that there is indeed a big difference between ‘athari’ and ‘ash’ari’ methodologies. They are also doing a big dis-service to the ‘hanafi fiqh’ because imam Abu hanifah (RA) was a hero and intellectual giant and never ever got confused about such imp aspects!

6:02 And according to you, scholars from the past and present ascribing themselves to the Asha’irah have all erred in their aqeedah while at the same time authoring great beneficial works for the ummah in Fiqh,Hadith etc. Allah bestowed them with sooo much of Ilm to author books which benefit the ummah but didn’t bestow the correct understanding of aqeedah on them. Is that what you’re suggesting? Or are you suggesting ignorance on their part for not understanding the Islamic doctrines properly before delving into other fields? You may say that authoring beneficial works is not a sign of being on the right aqeedah. Ok fair enough. But what about the vast number of scholars ascribing to the creed of Ashairah. Have all of them erred?

    • @ibn_karim

The reply to your last question is, yes. They did great in fiqh, hadith and other fields. But what has to be said, is said in the end. They had erred. We don't judge the right path based on how many great scholars followed that. We judge it according to the Quran, the sunnah and the understanding of the salaf. Funnily enough, asharis can never find any evidence of our prophet or the sahabas believing in a creed like that of asha'irah. They believe that the salaf were mufawwidheen, and thus they attribute ignorance to our Prophet and the sahaba.
Just ask yourself some simple questions, did Allah find it hard to describe Himself? Was our prophet ignorant and spoke about what he didn't know? Did he and his companions believe in what was said to them by being ignorant of it?

Lets focus on whether or not people are keeping their pants above their ankles, growing out their beards, and whether they believe Allah to be exactly as we think.

By means of this concept you denied the reality of the divine attributes, on the basis of the metaphor argument. This is the approach that is most fair, and it is not right to approach the divine attributes that are well known and understood as they appear to be by people of common sense, and twist the meaning on the grounds that these are metaphors. Like For example.
"Whoever claims that you (Allah) do not speak, nor can You be seen in the hereafter, then he has disbelieved in You and does not know You. I testify that you are above your throne, above the seven heavens, not as your enemies the heretical apostate say".
      (Muhammad Bin Mussab Al-Abid 228 A.H)
"Whoever claims that Allah is here (on this earth) is a filthy Jahmi. Verily Allah is above the throne and His knowledge encompass everything in the earth and the Heavens".
      (Abdul Al-Warrraq 250 A.H)
"Verily Allah is above the throne, separate from his creation. His knowledge encompass everything. No one differs from this except for a Jahmi who mixes Allah with His creation".
      (Yahya bin Muadh Ar-Razi 258 A.H)
"They have said worse than the Jews and the Christians. Indeed the Jews, Christians and the people of religion have agreed with the Muslims that Allah is above his throne. And they (Jahmiyyah) say that there is nothing over the throne".
      (Saeed bin Ammir Ad-Duba'i 208 A.H)
"Beware of the opinions of the Jahm, for indeed they try and say that Allah is not above the heavens. This is nothing but inspirations from the Shaytaan, it is nothing but disbelief".
      (Wahb bin Jarir 206 A.H)
"It was said to Jahm, describe for us your Rabb that you worship. He (Jahm) entered his house and didn't leave. Than after a few days he came out to them and said, He is the air with everything, and he is in everything, and nothing is hidden from him. Abu Muadh said, the enemy of Allah has lied. Indeed Allah is above his throne the way he describe himself".
(Abu Muadh Khalid bin Suleiman Al-Balkhi 199 A.H)
"Indeed the Jahmiyyah want to negate that Allah spoke to Musa (May Allah be pleased with him), and that Allah is a above his throne. I believed they should be asked to repent, they either repent or they are beheaded".
(Abdur Rahman bin Mahdi 197 A.H)
"The beginning of the speech of the Jahmiyyah is honey, and the end of it is poison. Indeed they are trying to say that there is no Illah above the heavens".
      (Jabir bin Abdul Hameed Ad-Dabbi 188 A.H)
Abu Mutee al-Balkhi said, "I asked Abu Haneefah about the one who say, I do not know if my Rabb is above the heavens or on the earth. He said, he has certainly disbelieved because Allah said,
      Ta Ha 20:5
      ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ
The Most Gracious (Allâh) rose over (Istawâ) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His).
I said, if he then say, I do say he rose over his throne but I do not whether his throne is above the heavens or in the earth, He said, if he denies that Allah Allah is above the heavens then he has disbelieved".
Abdullah Ibn Mubarak said, "We do not believe this statement like the Jahmiyyah, who says Allah is on the earth, whoever he is above his throne, just as he described himself".
He further said to a Jahmi, Is your stomach empty from him (Allah), and he was shocked (and could not answer).
Imam Al-Bukhari said Quran is the Kalam of Allah (in the mushaf as well its recitation), and he presented this ayat.
      Al-A'raf 7:54
Indeed your Lord is Allâh, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He rose over (Istawâ) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed is Allâh, the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

To say Allah's Siffat (Qabr or others) are parts is pagan Qaraish (Quran 53 :19)
To deny Allah's speech can be heard is of idolaters of Ibrahim. (Quran 21 :65)

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d. 279H) said, “It has been stated by more than one person from the People of Knowledge about such ahaadeeth, that *there is no tashbeeh (resemblance) to the Attributes of Allaah, and our Lord, the Blessed and Most High, descends to the lowest heaven every night. So they say, ‘Affirm these narrations, have eernaan (faith) in them, do not deny them, nor ask how.’*
However, the Jahmiyyah oppose these narrations and say, ‘This is tashbeeh!’ However, Allaah the Most High, has mentioned in various places in His Book, the Attribute of al-Yad (Hand), as-Sam’ (Hearing), and al-Basr (Seeing), but the Jahmiyyah make ta’weel of these aayaat, explaining them in a way other than how they are explained by the People of Knowledge. They (the Jahmiyyah) say, ‘Indeed, Allaah did not create Aadam with His own Hand,’ they say that Hand means the Power of Allaah.” 138 - Sunan at-Tirmidhee, 3/24
Abul-Hasan al-Ash’aree (d. 324H) said, “If it is said, ‘Why do you deny that His saying: “Do they not see that We have created for them what Our Own Hands have created.”
      And His saying:
“Whom I have created with My Own (Two) Hands.” 165 are rnajaaz (metaphorical)?’
To him it is said, *‘The ruling concerning the Speech of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is that it is taken upon its dhaahir (apparent) and haqeeqah (real) meaning. Nothing is removed from its dhaahir (apparent) meaning to majaaz (a metaphorical) one, except with a proof ...*
Likewise, the saying of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic:
His saying: “Whom I have created with My Own (Two) Hands.” 167
*It is obligatory to affirm two Hands for Allaah, the Most High, in its haqeeqah (real) meaning, not with the meaning of ni’matayn* (two bounties of Allaah).”

‘Imam Uthman ibn Sa‘eed ad-Darimi (d. 280 - may Allah have mercy upon him) said:
Praise be to Allah, may He be exalted, we know about the concept of metaphors from the language of the Arabs, which you have taken and used to confuse and mislead the ignorant. By means of this
concept you denied the reality of the divine attributes, on the basis of the metaphor argument. But we say: It is wrong to judge the most common style in the Arabic language on the basis of its rarest style; rather we should understand the statements of the Arabs on the basis of the most common style, unless you can produce proof that what is meant here is the rarer style (namely metaphor). This is the approach that is most fair, and it is not right to approach the divine attributes that are well known and understood as they appear to be by people of common sense, and twist the meaning on the grounds that these are metaphors. On a serious note, I never had doubts about Allah(swt) having hands or shin or any other "supposedly" humanly body part if it's mentioned in the Quraan and Sunnah. The real problem is, when we as humans think of these terms, the immediate notion or image of that body part comes to our head and we immediately start to wrestle with our mind. However, if you know that Allah(swt) is beyond whatever we can imagine, all these imaginary bodily notions inside our head go down the drain. The moment one has this type of bodily notions in your mind, ask yourself, "Did anyone say it's like a human hand or shin or whatever bodily part you can think of?"

    Take the Middle course!
Nu`aym bin Hammad Al-Khuza'i, the teacher of Imam Al-Bukhari, who said, *"Whoever likens Allah with His creation, will have committed Kufr. Whoever denies what Allah has described Himself with, will have committed Kufr.*
sufi asharis are like half shia mutazili, one deny sahaba who compile Quran, other deny Aqida of 4 Mathhab & 6 Hadith imams who compile fiqh & hadith, yet claim Islam or sunna & enjoin ext. taqlid of Quran 9 :31, not Quran 21 :7 to learn dalil like Quran 12 :108 & divide umma & persons from revelation. See quotes of the 4 mathhab imams, a good compilation was made by Sh. Albani.
Keep in mind the quotes of the preistly sufis who say be like a corpse and not asking questions... maybe that is why deviant Yasir Qadhi though yajuj and majuj were zombies... they hought they were sufis or from the book of mathew. Asharis error on Sifat mixed with sufi error on hadith of dreams in a preistly bida manner compiled over time to their seularism. the kitabis of the umma, or recal the hadith some will follow the greeks and majewsis!
    ---
They have no dalil to differ one Siffat of Allah for another or aka Siffat Qabr, they interpret like pagans interpret Allah's Siffat as parts or physical idols.
    Quran 53 : 19. Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza
, Tafsir ibn Kathir - Ibn Jarir said: They derive name for their idol Al-`Uzza from Allah's name Al-`Aziz.
Ashari errors on Tawhid Siffat are of old pagans. Quran 2 :143 - we are the middle nation, in running from idolatry, asharis fell in. Allah not speaking is of idolators of Ibrahim (Quran 21 :65), to say Allah isn't over His Arsh is of Firaun/atheism (Quran 40 :37), to say Allah doesn't change denies hadith of intercession, Allah is angriest on Qiyama (Sahih Muslim, Kitab Iman). The Salafis when they say Ashari imply Tashbih to deny the Siffat is clear from their pattern of error matching the pagans of old who affirmed it in a way they do. Allah's highness doesn't limit Him in Quran 4.126 as explained by imam Tahawi in Aqidah tahawiyah.
Quran 16 : 60. For those who believe not in the Hereafter is an evil description, and for Allah is the highest description. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
    - Ties Allah's Siffat's high description, clearly above tashbih to the hereafter, like Seeing Allah in Quran 75 :23, refutes Jahmiya who error on Allah's Siffat who Asharis follow, who maybe deprived of seeing Allah as a penalty!
    ---
Other errors, we don't need greek kalam baggage but Islamic qiyas for logic. True Aql conforms with the Naql as Ibn Taymiyyah teaches.
We don't need Batini sufi preist baggage zhud (Quran 58) but Sunni Zhud for dicipline!
Ahad hadith are taken in creed as Sh. Albani wrote in his book with that name, even Ibn Hajr and Nawawi were salafi in hadith science in this affair!
Many of their imams, Imam Ashari himself repented as did Juwaini i think and ghazali but didn't know what to repent to due to the post salaf mihnah situation of the day.
    Sunni scholarship is Athari.

The amount of errors in this video are too numerous. Let’s just start with one fact, you do not have to be a mutakallim to affirm the tanzih of Allah that the Ahlus Sunnah and the Salaf have affirmed. You can be an Ashari without doing Kalam, but most of you Salafis can’t even define Kalam properly. By your definition of Kalam even Ibn Taymiyyah is a mutakallim since he uses rational arguments to support his creed in Bayan Talbis al Jahmiyyah and for his believe on Hulul al Hawadith of the Quran. If Salafis were to see At Tadmuriyyah by Ibn Taymiyyah, without seeing the authors name, they would call it “Greek philosophy”. This is why Salafiyyah is not taken seriously by the real Ahlus Sunnah, you do not even know our beliefs. Alhamdulillah Allah guided me away from this incoherent and confusing path. May Allah guide us all to Ahlus Sunnah.

The real Joke is you. I will mention you two quotations from the Salaf, which should refute your claim.
‘Imam Uthman ibn Sa‘eed ad-Daarimi (d. 280 - may Allah have mercy upon him) said:
Praise be to Allah, may He be exalted, we know about the concept of metaphors from the language of the Arabs, which you have taken and used to confuse and mislead the ignorant. By means of this concept you denied the reality of the divine attributes, on the basis of the metaphor argument. Source: “Naqd Ad-Darimi ‘Ala Bishr al-Mireesi” of Al-Darimi 2/855
      He said:
"And we also Takfir them because of what is known from their Kufr by everybody: that they don't acknowledge that Allah Exalted is He has a Face or that He can Hear and See and Speak or that He has Knowledge or any other attribute except when they give an erroneous interpretation (i.e that Allah spoke without sound and other things audhu billah)." Source: “Al-Radd ala Al-Jahmiyyah” of Al-Darimi p199 nr367
Imam Hammad bin Zayd (d. 179H) said:
The similitude of the Jahmiyyah is like a man when it is said to him: 'is there a palm tree in your home?’ and he says, 'yes', and it is said to him: 'does it have palm leaves?’ and he says, 'no'. And it is said to him: 'does it have palm branches?’ and he says, 'no', and it is said to him: 'does it have trunks?’ and he says, 'no'. And it is said to him: 'does it have a stem'? And he says, 'no', and it is said to him: 'does it have a root?’ and he says, 'no'. It is then said to him: 'there is no palm tree in your home'. It is (similarly) said to those Jahmiyyah: 'do you have a Lord?’ they will say, 'yes', and it is said to them: 'does He Speak?’ and they say: 'no'. And it is said to them: 'does He have a Hand?’ and they say, 'no', and it is said to them: ‘does He have a Foot?’ and they say, 'no'. Salafi: Meanings are known
    Ahlus Sunnah wal Jammah:
قال شيخ الحنابلة الموفق ابن قدامة المقدسي (ت620هـ) :
The Shaikh of the Hanbalis, Muwaffaq ud-Din Ibn Qudamah Al-Maqdisi ‏رحمه الله(d.620), may Allah be pleased with him,:
    )وكل ما جاء في القرآن أو صح عن المصطفى عليه السلام من صفات الرحمن وجب الإيمان به، وتلقيه بالتسليم والقبول، وترك التعرض له بالرد والتأويل والتشبيه والتمثيل. وما أشكل من ذلك وجب إثباته لفظا وترك التعرض لمعناه ونرد علمه إلى قائله( {لمعة الاعتقاد ص6}
And all of what came in the Qur’an or is authentically narrated from the Chosen One, peace be upon him, is from the Attributes of the Merciful. It is compulsory to have Iman in it, meet it with submission and acceptance, leaving seeking to refute it, interpret it, liken it or give it semblance. And whatever is ambiguous of that, it is compulsory to establish and affirm the wording and leave seeking the meaning while returning the meaning of it to the One who said it.[26]
    وقال :
    The Imam also remarked:
    ( ومذهب السلف رحمة الله عليهم الإيمان بصفات الله تعالى وأسمائه التي وصف بها نفسه في آياته وتنزيله أو على لسان رسوله من غير زيادة عليها ولا نقص منها ولا تجاوز لها ولا تفسير ولا تأويل لها بما يخالف ظاهرها ولا تشبيه بصفات المخلوقين ولا سمات المحدثين بل أمروها كما جاءت وردوا علمها إلى قائلها ومعناها إلى المتكلم بها) {ذم التاويل ص11}
And the way of the First Three Generations, may Allah have mercy upon them, is to have Iman in the Attributes and Names of Allah, Exalted be He, which He has described Himself with in His Ayat or the Revelation in total or on the tongue of His Messenger without addition or subtraction from it. And one does not transgress them, give meaning to them or interpretation that opposes the text, likening them with the attributes of the creation or qualities of ephemeral things; on the contrary, one is to let them pass just as they came, return the knowledge of it to the One that said it and return the meaning of it to the One who spoke it” Dhamm ut-Ta’wil, p.11
imam al-Zarkashi- may Allāh have mercy upon him-sald.
“The people differ regarding what is cited from them [the ambiguous texts] in the verses and Hadith reports, and they are three groups:
    1. Those who believe that] there is no room for figurative interpretation of them, rather [they posit], they should be relayed according to their outward meanings and nothing of them should be interpreted. They are the ANTHROPOMORPHISTS .
    2. [Those who believe that] the [ambiguous texts] do have an interpretation, however, we are to refrain from that, while at the same time not believing in any resemblance or outright denial. [According to this view] we are to say: (None know its interpretation except Allah.› This is the view of the Salaf.
    3. [Those who believe that] they are interpreted. They interpreted them according to what befits Him. The first position is false, and the other two positions are recorded from the Companions, and those who have been reported using figurative interpretation include Ali, Ibn Mas'ud, In 'Abbas, and others.”

But as for Ahl al-Bidaʿ (people of innovations) and the Jahmiyyah and the Muʿtazilah and the Khawārij, then they all rejected this, and they did not affirm the Attributes upon their apparent meanings. They claimed that whoever affirms these Attributes would be a mushabbih (anthropomorphist)! But the truth is with those who say what is stated in the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, and these are the Imāms of the Jamāʿah, and to Allāh belongs all praise."

They claim that these Attributes are passed over as they have come without giving it any meaning and while believing that the apparent meaning is not intended.”
      [Al-ʿUlū li al-ʿAlī al-Ghaffār, p. 251]
Imām al-Dhahabī explained tafwīḍ of the meaning to be a false innovation and misguided understanding that was made up by the speculative theologians who came later on.
