Rusty old Ford F100 Cold Start!

- Hi! Cold War Motors picked up this 1970 Ford F100 just this last summer. It's totally rusted out but seems to run pretty nice. It's got the 300 c.i. inline 6 and a 3-speed stick. My favorite part of this truck is the steering column transplanted from a mid-70's Chrysler New Yorker!
As it is so rusted out, I will probably only save the drivetrain from this truck to put into something else. Why not start it up one last time and go for a little drive? I will make sure that the rest of the truck gets used and parted out to save other trucks!
Thanks everyone for watching and subscribing! More classic junker mayhem to come! - Авто та транспорт
Looks like Stel gives it her stamp of approval.
Was a Ford-hater, but then, started working on sa railways. There, I saw his good this engines is. 4 was f100 with the 3622cc(221ci) in. All 4 had more than 300,000 miles on them, no problems, still running strong ! I got the f250, also 221ci, but it had more than 400,000 miles on it. The compression was down. In the morning, I took the aircleaner off, close the automatic, rusted choke by hand, walked around, turn the key. Start first turn. Switch off, open choke by hand, and put aircleaner back. Compression was down, but the engine run smoothly, and trouble free. Got respect for these old Fords !....now, I can understand, why my uncle, bragged so much, with his f100 !
Sweet 1970 F-100 love the 67-72 Pickup's & F-250 Camper Special.
I love inline 6's they idle so smooth..
Amazing survivor. Nice other survivors in the background too.
OMG I'm laughing my ass off I love to hear these old indestructible vehicles. This beast has lasted so long it's a classic. Truck guys swear by the 300 inline six.
I love your channel. You guys rock. My eyesight is very poor and I can’t get a license to drive but I ’appreciate Those old gems that you guys work on. Many thanks
Hey, thanks for checking it out! Lots more old clunkers on the way!
Not sure why the algorithm is posting these, but they're golden.
I’m here in 2021 checking out one of Scott’s old adventures.
that is a FACT! I've seen trucks with a 300 go well over 200,000 miles - which is an astonishing figure for carbureted engines in non-overdrive vehicles. The body would be all rusted, the brakes barely there, nothing left of the interior, but those 300s would just keep going.
What's amazing to me, is that many people don't understand that the reason vehicles last so much longer these days, is because of fuel injection and the fact that most cars have five or six gears! These old vehicles are fun to look at, but nobody really wants to drive one. If they did, they'd all be restored and on the road. People don't remember, or don't know, how much maintenance autos used to require and how short lived they were.
I love the sound of a crackling fire.
Thanks for checking it out! Stella was kind of unimpressed with this unit at first, but she seems to have warmed up to it.
Hi! Thanks for watching this stuff! I also love original cars, nice or not!
More "Will it Run?" episodes on the way soon...
I sure love the highboys!! Those are beautiful!! My grandma had a truck like yours. It ran forever!
The straight 6 300's are great dependable and strong motors.
Hey, thanks for watchin' 'em! Yeah, my brother had a nice one of these pickups and he converted it to discs... much better.
Cool... love those inline sixes with the column shift!
looks prety good for a 70... my uncle has a original paint farm truck... 75 ford f100 with a original 300 3 on the tree they call it.. same hood rust engine compartment aprons problem.. owened it since 1990 and barn storage every year no staybill or carb service.. just gas n oil n uses it 5 times a year.. bought it for 400 $ in 1990 and had the body krowned to save the rest of the body .. needs wheelwells cab corners and left front fender rest is waxed ..runs great never give it up
Gotta love the Ford 300. Basically bulletproof. Runs forever.
Yes they are had one sit for nine years because of a bad fuel pump and put a new one started right up
awesome trucks these models you got a gem there!
one thing about fords, you can beat emup, you can tear em up, but you can't wear email out That 300 six is one powerful engine. I gained a new respect from the one in a 76 F100 I owned once. It was terrible in snow, though, I traded it for a 78 Mazda that was one of the best snow vehicles I ever had. I could tell a lot of stories about it, but I don't think anyone cares
Amen bro - eastern Massachusetts here and can't stand living in this new-cars-only region
Hey, thanks, and thanks for watching! Yeah... lots of snow this year; maybe some more sled videos coming soon!
Haha! Maybe, but I bet the Alfa stops better... Thanks for watching; Cold War Motors loves old Euro sedans! Lets keep proper cars on the road!
a great truck !!
First time I've ever seen a dog in a pickup.
There is one of these around the corner from my house. I might go ask if he would sell her.
your videos are gettin better everytime :) like your selfmade backgroundmusic!
She looks pretty seasoned. Maybe not worth restoring but nothing an afternoon with a welder and a couple street sign poles couldnt fix lol. You should do a walkaround of all those cars you got there, looks like a respectable collection.
that truck is nice but the dog is pretty damn scary LOL
Unfortunately, it is just way too rusty to be worth restoring. I will keep the engine and transmission and probably trade the rest away for parts. Thanks for watching!
Good old FORDS!!!!
Hey, thanks! I'm going to keep trying to make better vids, and making my own background music avoids copyright issues.
Hey, thanks for watching. You are right, these old trucks were really tough. Sounds like you've found a real gem; enjoy!
Hey there!
awesome another amazing video, I love this truck :D
Those old 70s Ford had rust problems on the front clip/fenders,I had a 72 that was a bondo special that I had to have a friend weld supports in the engine compartment to keep the fan shroud from hitting the fan.I sold it for parts{it had a good box}.I enjoy the old Fords and currently own a 79 F-100 XLT in very good condition.Enjoyed the video.
your dog cracks me up
Like that inverted H pattern on that transmission.
Very cool! I'm in the south in Taber, about 1/2 east of Lethbridge. Love the channel, one of my favorites! We're in Edmonton all the time as my brother lives up there, and you guys have a ton if snow compared to down here!
Interior light in fully operational condition!
You have! I live near Edmonton.
She is not usually impressed by very much of anything I do. As long as there are Milk Bones involved somehow, she puts up with it.
Thanks for checking it out!
Love the Ford 300 . Runs forever
Rusty=trusty
the dash is the best looking part of the truck if looks new I need that for my 71 f100 lol
Man for an old classic it seems to be easy as pie to get a truck running....
I love it. I purchased a one owner, 1977 F-150 Explorer, farm truck with 3 on the column coupled to a 383 V-8, about 2 months ago. It has only 35,000 original miles, (with documentation), and only has a little surface rust from sitting in the sun for many years.
These old trucks have character. Trucks were trucks back then, and Ford made the best, especially with the twin I beam.
i like this :)
I think Stella is ready for haircut I like the Kasier restore. Keep them coming
Thanks! Will do!
Oh man, all she needs is a Kraco CB radio from the Kmart.
cant stop laughing! blue light special!!!
Nice truck , I like your you tube channel
• 300... one of the best ever
Like your videos ...
I shouldn't even watch this. Makes me miss my 71 F100 Sport Custom. I had the original 302 . Wasn't fast but it had plenty of character.
it's not surprising considering the column swap. the truck was probably originally a column shift and he had to convert to the hurst after swapping in the steering column. If I remember correctly, you had to turn the shift arms on the trans 180 degrees for the aftermarket shifters to work correctly, and apparently he decided to just use a reverse pattern.
I just bought a ford f100 6 cylinder and i am thirteen years old im having a custom paint job and interer rebuilt
I suspect that the truck originally had a column shifter that was lost when the steering column was replaced. That would explain the odd pattern for the floor shifter. I once put a floor shifter in my 1972 Ford pickup when the column shifter broke off in my hand.
Set the choke cold. Set the fast idle warm. Set the idle warm. Set the timing. Replace the needle valve.
looks like shed drive fine as is, im guessing in canada they pay more attention to amounts of rust for an inspection? in NY they really just want the thing to be structurally sound along the main suspension areaas.
love it! I got a f250. XLT. with a 300 in it. but it shuts off some time and I don't know why.
check the pick up coil
Hood hinges are so overrated truck is mint how could anyone not love Stella great video
Hey, thanks for checking it out! All the best from me and my girl Stel!
From the looks of the shift pattern & the aftermarket Hurst shifter, this truck probably originally had a 3-speed column shifter.
when will get a Ford F1 pickup? they are the best - sounds t he way a pickup should sound :)
damn! sounds like a cummins!
Yeah, this truck was still being used on the road until I got it! The owner was afraid of trying to get it inspected, so he donated it to the Cold War Motors collection. It is pretty rusty, though... no cab mounts, floor soft, box and fenders are dusted, hinge post coming off... overall, just not worth fixing... and I'll fix just about anything!
I wonder why Stella doesn't say a lot?
+granskare She's kinda weird, old Stel...
cool
Whats your starting procedures?
Your dog didnt seem to impressed but I enjoyed the video!
whats with the weird gear shift pattern
I realize I'm commenting on a 4 year old video, but the weird shift pattern isn't weird at all...if the shift arms are upside down.
+Mr XSEleven No its a 3 on the tree converted to a 3 on the floor. That shift pattern is common.
+Falando The "H" pattern is normal; I meant that the placement of the gears within that 'H' pattern is reversed...reverse is where 1st should be and 3rd is where 2nd should be. I've performed many floor shift conversions myself back when bolt-action 3 speeds were still fairly common and have never ended up with a reversed gear placement within the "H" pattern--even with the cheapest of Princess Auto conversion kits. Maybe this conversion was done with an incomplete kit or from parts laying around and the shift arms were never changed or the installer never changed the orientation--which needs to be done because the shifter is now behind the selectors
Stelle is not impressed, she wanted to go further on that ride ;-) She felt let down....
You know, the brakes on those old Ford pickups were terrible. Maybe they did work and you just couldn't tell because they were so poorly designed? :-) Love your vids.
I think you are pretty close... possibly it was a 3 speed column shift and someone moved it to the floor?
i got a 69 f250 4speed that i use as my daily driver.. pretty much the same way mine starts cold lol
Sounds like a typical old Ford, pump the gas and crank. They're cold blooded. I have a 74 F-100 with a 390 and even in the summer you've got to pump her up a bit to get her going. I would like that truck just for a daily driver. I wouldn't care about the rust.
Starts alot easier than my Alfa 164
I just bought a `70 Ford sport custom for 2,500$ , body in better shape than this one but some rust , no carb , do you think I got a good deal ?
Depends on your area I got a 77 f250 ranger 351m running driving with 0 rust what's so ever for $700. Only thing I've had to do is new freeze plugs someone at one point put new wrong ones in poured oil like it was free other than the MPG'S it's a daily driver and I do so with it
last week I got a `78 f150 with a 390 for 1,000 bucks. actually I think it has a 400 6.6 motor in it. ( 351m maybe? )
haha kinda sounds like my 5.4 3v
nice truck pump the gas and crank it
Don't play with the starter!
I have a 1974 F100 xlt but gotta put New starter solenoid in it you sure that truck is a 70? Speedometer instrumentation looks like later model year than that
Have I seen an Alberta license plate in a couple of your videos?
Im surprised nobody asked about that Chrysler Steering wheel / colum...
Yeah, Stel has more or less turned this one into her house!
other than looking like shit thats the exact same truck i have color and all except mine has 302 with 3 spd column shift! cool old trucks!!!
Wrong shift pattern for that 3 speed transmission but cool video.
time to fix it up that is all
I would keep it as a farm put-put truck.
How many vehicles do you actually have??!!
+Ozwarlock0 HI! About 50, give or take...
Smorgasboard.
You are my hero.
Whoops, that should read 1/2 an hour east.
ive seen alot worse.. this still has wheelwells.. every part is available.. junkyards and patch n paint n sell for double
Need a original ford steering wheel
That's hilarious. Your yard is empty
i seen worst trucks fixed up
This was filmed with a potato.
