- My deep deep thoughts on what I think of the Zero SR/F electric motorcycle in city riding and compared to my Ducati Monster 1200S. We go on the FDR, through midtown, and down the Westside Highway. Pretty interesting bike with some seriously conflicting thoughts!

For those that say someone needs a loud bike to be safe, that implies that person is depending on others for their safety. There are plenty of people out there driving who are deaf or nearly so or they might have their music blasting. Besides, there is no hearing test to drive. I own a Zero FXS and have not once had an issue where I thought, wow, if I had a loud bike that would not have happened. And I ride and commute to work every day. I love being able to leave in the morning without waking everyone up. I also love the absence of heat or vibration when stopped or even moving. Electric motorcycles certainly arent for everyone, but they are right for me. This is after 15 years of riding an ICE bike.
There are a ton of valid points to owning an electric bike vs ICE. At the end of the day, electrics don’t have to be great for everyone; they can co-exist with ICE just like electric cars co-exist with ICE cars.
I actually find that the quiet and the cool helps me be more aware of every other car on the road, i can literally feel a car's heat when they pull up behind me

You’re welcome! I’d highly recommend checking out the HD Livewire as well. I’m not a Harley guy at all but that one is the one to beat for now. They do have a more city version coming out shortly that looks far more manageable in the city.
Good point on the silent vs exhaust. I agree with you, the exhaust has gave warnings to drivers that i am splitting or i am near by their blind spot. (Im in cali) i also dont believe i've pissed anyone off from my exhaust sound. Maybe at night but i disappear within a few seconds so their irritation might exist only for a moment. Good video! Thumb on horn all times it would seem on the electric motorcycles
Thanks! I was super torn on the bike as you could tell. I’ve honked the horn more on this bike in one day than I have in 3 months on my ducati. The exhaust is just louder than the horn. Glad you liked the video :)

I "commute" on mine every day.
They should all come with and artificial engine sound kit, including the ebikes , at least have a kit on the market that can be installed.
Maybe if we put some speakers and some loud music somehow to make that noise because it’s too quiet
Some electric cars already do it; I'm sure we're not too far behind on bikes too.
How did it go for the next year after this review?
I'm seeing these for £8k ex demo and tempted but hesitant with the belt issues and the general lack of character plus build quality in general
If those are your hesitations, there is no getting around those cons. Don’t do it. The dealer network isn’t great either and local dealers are struggling with selling their stock.
Maybe if the bike came with some speakers and on the phone connect with some Bluetooth put the music up and people might be able to hear and maybe the other cars I know some cars driving around with speakers all up you can hear it
Not crazy about Harleys with blaring music either. I think something a bit more subtle like an actual engine sound would be good. Although I'm sure there is a good chunk of the market (especially the people these bikes are targeted to) would appreciate the speakers.
Agree with you, but if all your doing is commuting it’s “OK”
100% agree. Great for commuters but watch out for pedestrians in busy cities; they can’t hear you.
SR/F is actually faster than the Ducati. You're being held back because of traction/wheelie control. Take it off and you'll see or go past 50mph and traction control goes away and it will try to rip you off of the bike. Be objective on your review, you're obviously biased towards your Ducati ownership. Other that that, good review.
Maybe you’re right. But I don’t have to strip any of that away on my ducati to feel the speed. And speed wasn’t my only complaint; in fact, it was a minor one.

Yep. And you absolutely should. A lot of the principles still apply.
Easy is the path of least resistance and electric motorxycles r the future cus of it. Can't b stopped now it's just matter of time
They still have a fairly limited use case. Highway range really needs to get past 200 miles.
